Pete M
does your gas cap have a tether? or just the handy holder in the door?

gogmorgo
Mine has no sign of ever having a tether, however given it was 21 years old with 280,000 miles when I bought it, there's no guarantee it's even the original cap. Never mind the rust and dust, the truck sees a LOT of gravel. It is an earlier '91 build, January 22nd I think, so a tether could have been added later I suppose? MeanLemons
Look like original cap on mine, no tether but there's a holder on the gas door. (129k miles) on a 91 eliminator

87Warrior
My late '91 build '92 had no evidence of a tether.

HOrnbrod
Yep, same cap. You can also buy a new Mopar tether like the one below (p/n 5278461AA), drill a 1/4" hole in the center of your existing gas cap handle and another in the fuel filler pipe liner, then pop the tether ends in the new holes. I did mine a long time ago with a locking gas cap.

gogmorgo
Looks like you've repurposed a bolt hole, where'd the bolt go? Also any idea what those other two seemingly random holes in there are for?
HOrnbrod
Just removed one of the sheet metal screws and drilled it out to 1/4" instead of drilling a new hole. There are two others still holding the collar. The two random 3/8" holes were too large to use, and I have no idea why they are there. Do you have these holes also on your 91? gogmorgo
Yeah. If you scroll up that's my filler area above... It's not as clean as yours... Always wondered what they were for. Figured the diesels might have had a different fill neck that needed different holes, but I really have no idea.
mikekaz1
I always assumed its for the diesel as the nozzles are larger.
