How to find out which model I have

Hi to all Comanche lovers,

 

I just bought a 1989 Comanche but do not know which model it is. The seller's title does not indicate the model.  Does anyone know how to find out?  The truck has been repainted.

The black Comanche with my name is a 1987 that I have also but not the 1989.

There was usually a factory build sheet placed either under the seat (between the metal springs and the pad), or inside the drover's door, behind the trim panel.

 

The eighth character of the VIN also indicates the trim package. What's your VIN?

Vin number for the 89 is;   1J7FT36L4KL436210

 

A data base used by a State Farm agent shows it to be a 1990 but a 2013 North Carolina title and car CARFx show it to be a 1989.    Trying to find out the model

According to the VIN it's an '89 (K) Pioneer 2WD 4.0L, it's not a 5001-6000 GVWR, the following is from the '90 FSM, '89 had the same codes.

It might have a D44, my '89 2WD Pioneer has a D44 with the 'F' designation, my '90 2WD Sportruck has a D35 also with the 'F' designation.

Thanks for that. I will have to look and see. Do you an opinion about which is better? Does it make a difference?

 

Diff question: CARFx shows the original titling in 1989 and then retitled in 3013 to same owner when he moved to a diff state. (Then sold to a new car dealership and then to an independent used car dealership and then to me.) I believe I am the second owner. Do you know if CARFx shows all titling or is it likely to be spotty? Any other source to trace ownership?

And yes, a Carfax report usually shows all the registered owners and titles (including salvage titles) for the vehicle.

Hi folks, I am considering buying a 91 that a friends father, who just passed away, bought about 4 years ago.  It's a 7ft bed. 4wd,  It is 4.0, 5spd stick, bench seat, crank windows with AC and tilt wheel.  They say it is a "special edition" but I don't think so.  I t has to be a pioneer or eliminator correct?  Other than the vin, is there any way to tell?

 

It has 171K on it.  Garage kept.  They want $2,500 for it.  Drivers floor bucket is soft. Rocker panels need  some loving and underneath it has the tradition 4.0 oil ooze.  I had a Cherokee Sport 10 years ago and enjoyed the heck out of it.  I always liked these trucks and the price seems right.  Any thoughts from those in the know?

2500 is probably pretty close to what an original MJ in reasonable shape would go for.

Pretty well all '91-'92's were special order, could be want they're talking about. Otherwise all the various names are really just trim packages, but if it's a special order they'd let you tick pretty well whatever boxes you wanted, so it mostly just comes down to the name. Got any pics?

It's not a Renix - that's a big plus - you can still get parts for it. W/o comprehensive pics we're just guessing. Invest in a Carfax report. It's worth the $$ for peace of mind.

Thats not true, Pioneers came in short and long beds. I have a short bed pioneer.

 

 

 

ah, ive only ever noticed long bed pioneers.     in any event, eliminators were definitely short bed only.

$2500 sounds reasonable for a decent old truck that runs decent. You could do far worse IMHO. Also like fact it is H.O. rather than Renix. Just more parts for H.O.
