So my brother had this topper....

The topper was sitting out back and I decided to clean it up and put it on for S&G's....now I kinda like it. Just wondering what your guys' thoughts are! Its so light that two guys can handle it. The convenience of still being able to get into the bed from all sides is what I really like.

I would pay $$ for that. FWIW, I do have an "old man" topper like that but only opens in the back, I can see HUGE usefulness in a side opening topper,

and it does look good on your truck, like it was supposed to be there.

Guy up here was selling a topper like that, and it was on a MJ, and it was red....

First, I am not a fan of the metal shells/toppers.  But I have to say the 3 way access to the bed is nice.  The single rear access to the bed with most shells is a pain sometimes. And the light weight of the metal shell is a very real advantage over the fiberglass shells.

My factory SnugTop is strapped to the rafters in the garage for the last 3 years or so because I have been using the truck without the shell and it is just a real pain to drop the shell back on the bed.  The fiberglass shell is heavy even for two guys.

I am really digging it the more I look at it. I plan to get some topper tape to help seal it up better (the old tape is old and crunchy). I might tape it off and paint all of the aluminum around the windows black and then call a guy I went to college with who does some tinting on the side. Or practice with it myself....depends if he would be willing to tint a few trucks while he was out. There was a ladder rack on the topper that we took off, but might put it back on and install some lights for night jobs. We will see!

So I am currently painting around the windows of the topper above. So far, so good! The day after posting this topic I was talking to my brother about how I wouldn't mind having a camper style topper. So, that evening I go in and check craigslist and what do you know? Someone just 25 minutes north of me happened to list a topper for a comanche! It wasn't there earlier that morning! So tonight i went and got it and am very pleased! I'm becoming quite the topper whure now haha. $50 bucks and he threw in a factory drop in bedliner that says comanche at the front of the bed! I took the bedliner just because it said Comanche. I am not a fan of of them honestly....here is the score..Image Not FoundImage Not Found

It needs a bath and some loving attention....and more stickers, but I can't wait to get it on the truck and try it out this summer!

Here she is with the new topper....Not at all what I was expecting and now to try and sell it. This could work if you really wanted a camper topper, but I do not and can live without. Back to searching for the right one!

For it to work properly it is nearly touching the cab. I could shave it down, but it still does not have the right angle to match the cab.

It looks good when looking at a picture, but in person it just doesn't fit the bill.

For now I will be running with the topper that I originally had on...here it is after painting around the windows and polishing the aluminum that I left.

That sucks they had it listed to fit a comanche, glad you only paid $50 for it.  I bet it was on an S10 or Toyota.  You should be able to get your money back when selling it!

It was on the guys Comanche before he sold it.He must not have cared about how it looked and saw that it fit so  therefore it was a Comanche topper. Had I not been waiting on a fuel pump I would have taken the Jeep and check for fitment there. Oh well.Scored a bedliner which was pretty cool at least.

Yes, not a Comanche shell.  But the dual handles on the rear window are a nice feature.  If you can identify which truck the shell is for, you should be able to sell it for $100 anyway.

That factory bed liner is  good quality, Mine is still OK after 25 years.

The only way I'd roll with a plastic drop in liner is if I had a topper on the truck. I took the plastic factory "COMANCHE" liner out of my 88 as soon as I bought it and found years of crud built up under it. The truck never had a topper on it. I blasted the bed clean at the pressure washer and didn't put the liner back in. I kept the liner in the woods for a few years and then gave it away to a fellow member!

Don't get me wrong, they serve a purpose. I still have that tailgate protector and its installed on my 90 :)

Just be aware before you put any liner in a truck that doesn't have the bed sealed off from the elements...

No plans of installing it! When I bought this truck it had one in it..All Star I believe. It is also sitting out back along with the other three from previous full size trucks we have had over the years. I do not like them because they collect junk underneath, they rub, and you can't keep your things from sliding all over the dang place. Even with a topper I couldn't see myself using them.
