Wow!

I'm speechless!

Truck is BEAUTIFUL

Newton. What light bar mounts are those!!!! I love that they don't put the light in the middle of the damn windshield.

Newton,

Congrats on MJ of the Month.  Very nice work in a relatively short 1 year time span.

Question:  Can we see a picture of your full headliner?  That last picture in post #71 shows just a little bit of it.  Also want to see what you did with the Rodeo overhead light.

Can you post a link to the A pillar gauge pod?  The fit looks quite nice for the Comanche and I may need to get one for my VW TDI engine swap into the 86 Diesel MJ.

Thanks,

Picked Up the a-pillar gauge pod from summit racing think its made by autometer for xj but as we all know the entire front of the mj is the same so fits perfectly just threw on some gray paint to match the interior..

The Headliner is pretty basic just some speaker box cover material i had laying around and cut it to fit and stuck on with some 3m super 77 spray on adhesive i picked up from home Depot.. a1500ram on here makes great headliners for that factory look but total cost to get it here to the virgin islands was $200 so i improvised a little i have more head clearance without the headliner and looks decent.. total cost was less than $20 bucks..and i can dig that...also the dome light t had a few plastic tabs sticking on the back i just sanded it down for a flush mount and bent the tabs holding the bulb inwards a bit drilled small holes for the self tap in screw through the roof support and wired it from the b-pillar lights ..sorry i don't have pics before it was mounted...

Those the taillights I sold you?

 Yessir..thats your taillights alright

Damn they cleaned up nice.  I saw a "how-to" on Facebook the other day on polishing then masking off the edges for black paint and an overall coat of clear afterwards.  I'm guessing that's what you did?

Yup.. one of them had chipped around the edge i fiberglass it fell right under the black trim so it covered up nicely scuffed with a scotch brite then cleared threw a hint of black into the clear as well to give it a slightly tinted look...

Just wanted to pop in with some Facebook statistics. So far your truck is the most popular thing that's ever been posted on the page. So far almost 6,600 people have seen it and it's only been up for a day. Since I put it up, 72 people have liked the page (normally about 5 new people like the page each week) Looks like the Internet seriously loves your truck!

That's a really cool idea for the headliner, never would have thought of that. I was laying in bed this morning talking to my wife and told her about your truck and that I hadn't seen the build thread. So I got up at 5am and read the whole thing and have to say this is one of my favorite builds on here. Great job!

Newton,

Thanks for posting the picture of the Rodeo light. I didn't think of putting the overhead light that close to the front window.  I was thinking a bit further back towards the middle of the cab. So the picture was/is valuable to me.

I have a new headliner on order from A1500ram for the 86 diesel and looking for ideas to mount an overhead light.  Perhaps an overhead console also could work.

Yup I'm sure the overhead console would be a great addition to your headliner reason i put the cab light to the front was because i already have the b-pillar lights towards the back and doesnt disperse enough light towards the front of the cab in the event you wanna read something at night or something but I'm sure a console light would probably be brighter and would work just as well from the center of the cab..

Actually, I really like the headliner look.  Seeing as I wear a cowboy hat most days, the extra clearance would be welcome.  The light you mounted, does it function the same as the B pillar lights in that you can turn it on separate and it comes on when the doors open/headlamp dimmer switch is operated or is it just one or the other?

The light functions exactly the same as the b pillar lights it has a switch to the side so u can turn it on or off as u like or have it turn on when the door is opened

  • 1 month later...

My Oil pressure switch was leaking oil so decided to upgrade to a sending unit with gauge since i still have a dummy cluster and and had no way of monitoring oil pressure wasnt even certain that stupid oil light even worked on my cluster ..anyway went with the glow shift oil pressure gauge which comes with the sending unit which is a direct bolt on ..installation was a breeze and within half an hour no more leaks and a nice gauge with switchable backlight colors to match your dash lights..now i can keep an eye on my oil pressure.
