dasbulliwagen
We just got our first one into the dealership. All I have to say is... No sir. I don't like it.
ftpiercecracker1
We got ours about a month ago. I drove one, it's a car. I haven't had the chance to test an "off-road" variant yet though. I think I remember some one saying the dimensions like grood clearance, and wheel base is almost identical to an XJ.
dasbulliwagen
I'm sure the trailhawk will look better, same goes for the Cherokee. But I don't think at this point I could ever say that I would like to own one, especially with no manual trans option.
87Warrior
I like the Renegade. My wife hates it. I think they look much better in person than in pictures. Talked to a guy in a non TH model at an interstate rest area and he said it has no problems overcoming a Kansas headwind. I also still like the Patriot. Haven't sat behind the wheel yet, but I think it will be like driving my wife's 220k mile Camry.
Incommando
It is an imported Fiat. Fiat has a lengthy history of poor reliability. I have read that these share a platform with the Panda which we know as the 500L. Check out the reliability ratings on the 500 line-up

My guess is the the renegade is the same type of build.
Rockfrog
Wow, that's how I feel about my wife's 4dr Wrangler ... My Comanche has a better build quality to it. I mourns the loss of Jeep.

gogmorgo
I have yet to see one in person, but I kinda like it... Bear in mind, though, this is my daily driver:

Incommando
As the Compass is exactly the same as a Patriot you won't feel any difference. The even carry the same model designation of MK I have a 2014 Patriot 4x4 as a DD. It is great on nasty winter roads and I get 24 MPG from a vehicle with as about much horsepower as a renix 4.0.Yet is almost the exact size of an XJ Cherokee and weighs more, The big difference in the MK's is that starting in '14 you could get an honest to goodness automatic transmission. The CVT used previously was junk in both longevity and performance. The 5-speed stick was little better. The Autostick 6-speed auto was a game changer for this vehicle. In addition the 6-speed gives you everything the more expensive "off road freedom drive 2" does in a cheaper, more reliable, better performing package. Is it a hard core wheeler? Hardly. But it does what was designed to do well. And remember such vehicles are needed to improve CAFE or else the brand will die. Clunks? Feel Cheap? Maybe the previous ones but not the last couple of years of refreshed models. Mine is head and shoulders above my '12 Sonic and about on par with the '14 Traverse. The early models sucked but they have got it just about right as they are getting ready to kill it. And it is not an import made by one of the few companies with a worse reliability record the ChryCo.
dasbulliwagen
I agree the new 6 speed auto supplied by Hyundai made those actually decent cars as compared to earlier models. Hyundai also uses a variant of the same world engine that is available in the Compatriot so I'm sure it was no big deal for Chrysler to get it to bolt up. Incommando
If they would have made this combo from the start.... ChryCo has been/is more tied to Hyundai/Kia ( same company for those that haven't figured out it is like Chevy/Pontiac) then some might think through their various ownership/investment deals with Mitsubishi. Mitsu has invested in Hyundai over years. Hyundia licensed ( mostly outdated) technology from Mitsubishi who was in bed with Chrysler for decades . Kia actually come to them from the Ford/Mazda partnership. The early '90's car sold here as the Festiva was sold as both a Mazda and as Ford's version of the Escort in lower Asia when they claimed that the Escort was a "world car" available all over. But I digress....lol. ChryCo should have made the Patriot the way the 1/4/15 models are from the beginning. That Jatco CVT is and was a huge mistake. Keyav8r
OK, a little off topic, but I have ask Gomorgo what his DD is. Maybe my eyes are getting old or maybe I've never seen one of whatever it is. And, maybe I have seen one and it's just my CRS is kicking in (again).
HOrnbrod
Lada. Fine machine.
gogmorgo
It's a '96 Lada Niva. Designed by drunk Soviets in the '70's, assembled by drunk Russians. It features some heavily "borrowed" Fiat design elements, and was intended for duty on the roads of Siberia. It's also a case study in bare-bones 4x4's... It didn't even come with a radio.
