Meh. Aside from the Cummins powered Rams, the viper, and the Charger/Challenger cars, Chrysler hasn't made anything worthwhile in a long time, in my opinion. I'm sure Fiat will keep those as well as some form of Wrangler for the foreseeable future. The car line needs a big revamp. Perhaps Fiat will start making some interesting things here in the states.

i agree with ya there, althought the JKs aint bad wranglers but the idea they have for the 2016 wrangler is horrible in my opinion, indepented suspention all the way around, might be better for rock crawling though, who knows,

All rumors...

It was quoted in the newest JP from the CEO that there will be solid axles, no unit body or aluminum construction and also Wrangler production will not leave Toledo.

Chrysler has ALWAYS sucked. They did ok with Jeep until they did away with all the AMC designs. They were already @#$%ing up Jeep and Dodge/Ram and Fiat simply made it worse. Chrysler has never been a positive influence on either brand. Fiat will continue to ruin Jeep and Ram. Especially since they passed on the new Cummins in favor of a pos VM Motori  (fiat) 6 cyl for the new Rams and let Nissan pick it up ruining the only thing Ram trucks have had going for them in decades.

I think there was more to the dizzle thing in the half tons then what meets the eye. I love Cummins and wish we could get a half ton with one! But what about the Grand Cherokee? Cummins in there too? Nope. From a business standpoint in my opinion it makes more sense using the 3.0 in the half tons. If Ram looses Cummins for the HD trucks, bye bye Ram HDs....

JK's aren't bad, but they're not really Jeeps, if you ask me, at least not the 4 door ones. They're bloated, heavy, underpowered things that were built to fill the niche that that H2/H3 left when it died. I've yet to drive a stripper model 4 banger, but all of the high optioned v6 4 doors I've driven have been pretty bland. Nothing special in those things, and definitely no "jeep flavor" to them.

i've drove the 2dr JKs with the 3.8 6speed and it aint that bad, but i do agree the 4dr JKs did kinda pick up what the hummers left when they died out, but even the 4drs aint that bad, only way i'd get a 4dr JK is if i get a family,

There is no such thing as a 4 cylinder JK in the US. The 3.8 is a dog for sure. The new 3.6 is a night and day difference in power and feel for the JK. It especially helps out the 4 doors. I consider them a real Jeep but I also agree that they have gotten too big. And to be that big and still impractical to use on a daily basis is even worse.

That's a damned shame! For me, it wasn't just about a lack of power, it was more about a general lack of "Jeepness", for lack of a better term. I would have gotten the same driving experience in an Explorer, or hell, a Caravan.

I've always loved the CJ's and Wranglers and always wanted one until I got to drive a few. You can't haul much of anything in them. They aren't secure with a soft top. And they get relatively crappy gas milage. They do have a cool factor though and that is the draw for most people. You almost have to be fully accepting of the lifestyle to live with one on a daily basis. Especially with a soft top! Even though my MJ is even smaller on the interior, at least I can lock it up, not worry about the weather, and haul a literal ton of stuff in it. And its still a Jeep.

You young guys talk of the demise of Jeep since Chrysler no longer exists. I always disliked Chrysler. I thought Jeep died when AMC when under. :rotf:

I still have an old flathead 4 banger off of my Willys wagon sitting in my garage. lol

I think even ChryCo gave Jeep something good. I DO love my 4.0HO equipped ZJ, after all.

Both the 4.0 and XJ were AMC designs. If it weren't for the "merger" the XJ would have been available sooner. Chrysler delayed the introduction in order to introduce the redesigned minivans.

As previously stated, the base design of the 4.0L was all AMC.  All ChryCo did with the 4.0L was update it with the latest technological goodies and did a slight redesign of the block casting to reduce noise, vibration and harness (designated NVH on the blocks).

I'm aware of that. I'm also aware thay the base design for the ZJ was done by AMC. What Chrysler did to the 4.0 by giving it 190hp was pretty amazing at the time. Remember that during those same years, the 5.2 in the Ram was only putting out 170hp.

I don't consider an additional 13 horsepower to be pretty amazing. Hard to say if AMC could have managed the same feat in three additional years or not. They did develop the motor itself in just over two years.
