Been in contact with a fella over in Monte Vista about a Cherokee. We agreed on a price and today I went after it. After making a 140 mile trip one way, this is what greeted me.

Obviously not a XJ but a ZJ, or a WJ  Whatever '94 Cherokee's are. 4.0, AX15, 231J, 4WD.  So my question is, what parts of this will fit a MJ? And, is there anything on it that any CC members want?

Spotted another MJ in Alamosa on my way over and seen two more on the return trip. That's rare.

Any way if it hadn't been such a long trip, I would've told him where to park it.

Friday it's going over the scales after I pull what I want.

I'm guessing you don't realize what you have there, 5spd ZJs are extremely rare and highly sought after by ZJ lovers.

Iirc I think there where only a couple hundred standard zjs . Depending on how bad the wreck was hopefully none of the rarities got damaged bhfear or k harrod should be able to answer it better as they both have a fleet of em .

Got enough sheet metal pulled off the engine so it'l turn over. It fires but doesn't keep running. Sounds GOOD!  oil pressure 40 lbs. 14-15 Volts on the gauge.poured 5 gallons of gas in the tank. Got good fuel flow and pressure. Looking for some ideas before I pull out the manual. Security light on the dash stays on. Everything power on it works, seats, wipers, windows, etc,.

Been looking for one myself.  I've never found or seen one.  I know of a guy that used modified XJ pedals and a NV4500 behind a 5.9 ZJ.

OK. Somebody make me a offer and come get it. BEFORE I do something with it.

Been looking at it and a '97 ZJ I got, just thinking how much trouble it would be to start switching parts.

I would see about posting that up over on www.nagca.com and get it to the guys who would really like it. To part that out, or put those parts into something not ZJ would be like someone cutting up a factory MJ rollbar to put into their Dakota.

That is a RARE ZJ... its a 5 speed and very very few were made in that color. Definitely post it on NAGCA and let one of those guys take it off your hands, someone there would love to have it.

Look in drivers door behind the door panel....... find the PURPLE wire with the YELLOW tracer. or in the lift gate find the GREEN with ORANGE stripe.... cut the wire. Ground the end that runs back into the trucks harness. This will disarm the security and let you start it

Thanks yxmj. I'll give it a try. Tried joining nagca last nite. Never heard back from them. This morn tried posting a ad on ebay. Got so frustrated trying to fill out the paper work I said to hell with it. Going out now and try yxmj's tip. see what happens.

No Problem

It might be easier to get at the drivers door wire from the lower drivers side kick panel? That way you don"t have to take off the whole panel  :dunno:

GOT IT STARTED!!. That SOB runs like a brand new one. yxmj. Your hint didn't work but thank you any way. Finally pulled out the FSM. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Take the ign key, insert it in the passenger side lock, turn it left, then right, the horn honked twice. Turned the key again. Nothing. went in and tried it. Fired right off and ran GREAT!.

Hope ya'all will excuse me if I over post on this thing, but darn it, I'm all worked up over it now.  After I got it running went thru the glove box. They spent over $2,000 on that thing on new parts in the month before they wrecked it. New battery & alternator New windshield, New fuel pump. That was $900 installed. New brakes all around, pads and rotors..Now i got to figure out what I'm going to do with it. Fixing it up sounds like a good idea. I got everything needed to replace what's needed. Only problem is i already got too many projects going. Ahhh we'll see. Maybe I'll get lucky and somebody will sweet talk me out of it.

Can't say I'm surprised by this recent development.

Last post on this subject. I joined NAGCA for the sole purpose of running a for sale ad on it. Spent a frustrating hour trying to sign in this morn with no luck. That is the most user unfriendly site I've seen in my life. So I have a ad here for it.If I haven't sold it in a couple days I'm going to part it. Don't care how rare it is. I got a MJ needs a engine. :dunno:

Use the drivetrain out of it and sell the manual specific body parts off the remains. It's still just a 4.0 with an ax15.

All you'll need to do is bolt a Cherokee water pump and alternator. Rackets on it and drop it in your rig. You know how it runs, why buy a pig in a poke with a different drivetrain? Use it, it's a jeep.

that is definitely the only standard zj ive ever seen.  highly doubt any were ever imported to canada.  i'd run an ad on denver c.l. just to see what the response would be like from a wider audiance.

Finally got it up on a flat surface and ran some plumb bob measurements on it. The frame is definitely bent so that wipes out the faint idea I had in the back of my mind about fixing it. Any body need any ZJ parts, come get 'em. Bring money.

You need to keep one of these around...Got this front end waiting in the backyard for a future wrecked ZJ build....
