I'm looking to upgrade my speakers and radio

The speakers Ive got in right now half are blown

What size do i need to replace all of them

How easy is it to replace em and how many do our mjs have

Standard MJ issue is one, 6X9 speaker in each door. An option was two more, one on each side  in the rear bottom, behind the seats, of the cab

Dash: 3-1/2. When I installed mine I had trouble with the top mounting screw hitting the dash so watch out. The only XJs that had speakers here had the upgraded audio system but I don't know what they had there.

Doors: 5-1/4 stock. 6x9s will fit apparently. Haven't tried it myself.

Rear panels: 4x6 with the stock brackets (you can make pretty much anything fit with some sawing)

Ok

Looks like I've got to find which ones are bad now

I was thinking doing new ones anyway but would the factory wires stand up to new speakers like kicker kenwood boss or any good ones

2 Under the dash
2 In the doors

2 in the back behind the seat

I'll crawl under and measure for you when I get done with midterms

mine are way past shot too. just havent had time or money

I believe Minuit is correct - stock sizes are 5-1/4" in the doors and 4"x6" in the rear at the base of the B pillar. That's the sizes that fit in my 88. I have a set of OEM rear speaker brackets that are sized for 4"x6".

Just FYI - I don't actually know (and doubt) if MJs ever came with 3-1/2 in the dash from the factory. That was a Jensen sound system thing (an option I don't believe the MJ ever had). They fit though if you're looking to upgrade.

Not Jensen, it was called the Infinity sound option in the XJs, but like you I do not think MJs ever had the Infinity dash tweeter speaker option. Jenson was the maker of the speakers for the Infinity option. With the stock AM/FM/Cassette unit, any replacement 8-ohm speaker (5.25 round for the doors, 6x4 for the rears) is fine. I like using the Sony Xplod speakers for replacement. Decent sound and not too expensive.

My door panels (pulled off an 88 XJ Limited) say "Accusound by Jensen" on the bezels although I think that option stopped being available not long after. Never seen an XJ later than 1990 with it. :dunno: I thought the Infinity system was a 97+ thing.

Sony speakers are a pretty good upgrade option though, I agree.

I had a 92 XJ with the Infinity sound option years ago and all the speakers were all Jensen mfg. There were even a factory (or dealer) options for single DIN dash CD players as early as 1990; one was on a slide and removable. I have the Mopar part numbers but never have been able to locate a working unit. And a lot of this stuff was dealer installed, so there were no real standards, as with a lot of optional stuff throughout the Jeep years.

5.25 round speakers for the door and 6x4 for the B-pillar bases

I'll look into xplods and hopefully I can get em next week then do the radio later

Crutchfield.com my car app builds it for you and gives all options that fit at a really good price and excellent customer service never buy my sound equipment anywhere else

Unless things have changed, I'd stay away from crutchfield when it comes to buying. They've never been the best price, kind of high in my experiences.

Crutchfield has the Factory Specs for the Speakers and Style of Stereo.

Original Sizes - Doors are 5-1/4 and behind the Seats is 4x6.

Single DIN Stereo.

Anything else, is your choice.

I checked thoroughly, and this is what I found to be true.

I found an estimate from 2 different Stereo Install shops.

Radio is a Single DIN size face.

Front Speakers (Replace Factory) 5-1/4 Round in the Door

Rear Speakers (Replace Factory) 4x6 Oval Behind the Seat

There was a Note for Optional Location Possibilities. Needed to talk to Install Tech.

1 Shop had given an Option for Speaker Boxes, Instead of in place of the 4x6 replacement.

My Past Experiences, Good Quality Speakers & Head Unit outweighs the Amp/Subs option.

I was lucky enough to find a rare nos cd player for my truck part# 82300393 sounds great . I converted one of my trucks to power windows and put tweeters in the holes where the cranks went through originally . The dash speakers are kinda tricky to install unless you have the bracketry. I went and bought my speakers on eBay 51/4 cerwin Vegas and 4x6 kickers
