1989 Eliminator Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I am not sure if you are aware of this but I stumbled upon a cupholder the crown automotive (quadratec) makes. It is bolt it and universal if you have the center counsle dish. http://www.quadratec.com/products/72151_01.htm
johnj92131 Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 My sister in law has had one of these in her Cherokee for years. It works, but I guess it is better than nothing because it is not well anchored. And the price is quite reasonable.
carnuck Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 cheap. I had one that kept getting drinks knocked over so I tossed it.
1989 Eliminator Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Well I am going to try it out. I might cut the bottom of the holders out so that the drink will sit lower and creating a less chance of it tipping over. I still like the one I made :rotfl2:
dscowell Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Decent price but what don't hold cups to well while you are driving. Too much of the cup is uncovered to keep it stable (could just be my driving). Mine is currently on the floor sense the bolts I had where they are suppose to bolt in are too short.
Automan2164 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 The OEM cupholder that goes up by the console lid is too shallow to hold anything during a turn or bumps. They did offer another style that snaps under the black trim and hangs into the passenger side. Nice and deep, holds drinks perfectly. Picked mine out of the JY for $5 IIRC. You can still get them new from the dealer.
onlyinajeep726 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 The only thing about this one that I don't like is that it takes some room away from the passenger...
Minuit Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Yeah, MJs have enough problems with passenger legroom but it looks like it's probably no wider than the bottom of the transmission tunnel.
Rockfrog Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I have the same cup holder as the OP posted. It works OK but I don't trust it to hold my coffee (some cups are the right size to wedge in but most aren't). I'm thinking of cutting the bottoms out and replacing with marine cup holders if the hole bothers me.

Only asking because my '90 MJ does not have the inserts for it and the other cupholder option seems to spill everything above 15-20 mph

WyoCherokee Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 i got one of the mounts that goes over the ebrake handle. it holds a soda can but thats about it. Everything else just falls out when you go around corners. But hey, in 1988, if you had a can of pepsi on a saturday going to the lake, you were Cruisin! there werent any of these new fancy coffee mugs and water bottles. I'm debating just getting rid of it. we have sealed mugs, so they usually jsut get stuffed under the seat bracket or in a bag behind the seat
