I gotta say thats pretty d**n impressive. First time i have seen/heard of a stinger bumper actually saving someone's @$$ and not just looking obnoxious.

This isn't the first one I've seen where the stinger saved a roll over. IIRC there was one in petersens worst stuck. Stingers do have a place in the offroad world for a reason. Those ice trucks in the South Pole or where ever have them in the event they run off in an ice crack

 

I've had two experiences where I bet a stinger would have come into play if someone hadnt of hung on the bed of my MJ. Definately a change the underwear moment LOL

Stingers were not designed to save you truck from going into a crevasse. The point of a stinger is to keep you from doing an endo. Once all four tires are off the ground you will be sitting on a point causing you to be deflected to the side instead of going straight over onto your roof.

They were using 'stingers' on Antarctica snow sleds and track vehicles many years before one ever showed up on a Jeep, or other off road vehicle. Frankly I think that's where they got the idea from. Check out some old National Geographics.

I was always under the impression they originated in the arctic expedition vehicles also. For the same reason, to keep the front end from falling into a crevasse.

There was some use in the Arctic but not near as much as in the Antarctic. In the Arctic they were mostly used when traveling on ice and not so much on land. Different Conditions made Antarctica much more susceptible to crevices than in the Arctic.Once when I was down to Upernavik, Greenland I saw a early Scout mounted on a set of tracks and sporting a stringer. Think it belonged to the Danish police unit stationed there.
