TheDirtyJeep401
I truly believe that if you wash your vehicle, it will rain. So my mom complains that the reason that it is raining and flooding is because I washed my truck, so I quickly changed that. And when I got back, the sun came out. johnny quest
totally! especially in the winter; my DD is a black subaru, and whenever i wash it, it snows that night or the next day, and thusly gets completely covered in road grime.
dscowell
It's not car related but my dad use to coach baseball at my high school and he wouldn't wash his uniform pants because he didn't want to wash away victory.

I don't blame you, I hate that crap It's not car related but my dad use to coach baseball at my high school and he wouldn't wash his uniform pants because he didn't want to wash away victory. Hmm I could see that. keep a $2 bill in my wallet. never get a knife as a gift unless you give whoever gave it to you at least a dollar. I never heard that before, but sounds weird. Does it work? lol
H3RESQ
I think the idea behind the knife is you want to give them $ as well in case they don't like it. The dollar ($) will keep the from stabbing you with the knife that was a gift they didn't like. Edit...wait, that doesn't make sense after re-reading his superstition. I don't really understand that one.
RubberDuck
the one time i didn't "pay" for a knife someone gave me, i lost it a week later. paying for a knife is a way to block bad luck associated with the knife from coming with it, like if the knife was used in a robbery, stabbing, etc. its a way of changing the ownership without adding more bad luck by "stealing" the knife from whoever had it before. Minuit
I'm probably the least superstitious person on this forum, but I think nature conspires against me any time I try to do something outside. If I lived in the Sahara, it would still probably rain within 7 days of me washing a vehicle.
Keyav8r
A little off-topic, but I've been listening to the The Three Musketeers on CD. In one part there was a thing about a family ring the had been "disgraced" by having been worn by a dishonest woman and could not be worn by any worthy person. The remedy was to pawn it and then redeem it . Having passed through the hands of another person, the ring was cleansed of the disgrace and once again worthy. That era was rife with superstition and, truth be told, there's still a lot of superstition alive today. Don't let a black cat cross your path, don't walk under a ladder, don't open an umbrella indoors, seven years of bad luck if you break a mirror, if you spill salt - throw some of it over your shoulder, if you find a penny face up you'll have good luck, etc.

jimoshel
I was abducted by aliens a while back. Since there wasn't much I could do about it I decided to just make the best of the situation. So I was my usual obnoxious, sarcastic, fault finding, bitching and occasionally humorous self. Everything was going great until I pinched the navigators butt. I think she was a she. Was kinda cute despite the pale yellowish green color. They made a 180, returning to Earth, dropping me off and kidnapping some schmuck standing on the corner instead. No wonder she was in such a foul mood. had her giggling by the time we made it around the block though. as far as the superstitions go...I still remember my old man saying when I was a kid that every bad bit of bad luck to ever come my way was a direct result of peein in the road. Damn karma anyway......

Blue88Comanche
about 22 years ago Mom, Dad, and my Aunt had a ghost encounter. They where renting an old old house in Opelika, My aunt at the time was taking classes at Auburn. They all had a morning bathroom routine. My aunt would get the first shower, then mom, and dad. One morning mom and dad where waiting for my aunt to get out of the shower and she was taking longer than usual, so they start down the hall to hurry my aunt up when she came walking up the stairs to tell who ever was in the shower to hurry up. they all heard the same thing running water and splashing like someone was taking a shower. but when they all where in the hall it stopped they checked the bath tub and it was dry. they all swore they heard someone in the shower. needless to say it freaked them out a while. keep a $2 bill in my wallet. never get a knife as a gift unless you give whoever gave it to you at least a dollar. I have heard of that. My friend made some knives and sold one as a gift to one of his co-workers, however he only asked 2 cents for it.
