Comanche Multiplication

It's strange how these things seem to multiply.

I was looking for Comanche parts on Craigslist over the weekend when I came across a very vague ad.

jeep truck - $2500 (cumming )

great truck come drive it home 77 thousand original miles 4.0 motor call xxx-xxxx for pics _ill trade for vw bus or baja

So of course I had to call the guy and find out more. Turns out he inherited an '88 Comanche from his Grandfather who bought it new. It has a great running 4.0 with an AW4 and a strait, rust free body. The truck is stock and unmolested. I managed to talk him down on his price and drove it home.

Nice survivor - I drove a bench column auto for a few years and liked the space when used as a DD. Spilled my coffee a few times tho...had to use a mason jar with a lid :)

Yeah, my daughter is 6 and fits in the middle of the bench just fine. I'll have to figure out a cup holder.

I found two vacuum hoses that are disconnected and an extra relay spliced in for some reason under the hood. The PO tried to remove the cat and install a muffler himself using a stick welder. Plus the fuel pump needs replacing. Other than that the truck is in excellent shape.

Where is this extra relay located?

It's spliced in on the passenger fender where the factory fuel pump and other relays are. I haven't had a chance to look at it too closely, but my guess is one of the factory relay sockets was bad so they just used vampire taps on the factory wires to splice in a replacement.

Just a wild guess...but it was common for non-AC Jeeps to be retro-fitted at the dealer later in life to add the AC. That's how it went down for my 88' as I bought it from a guy who was a Jeep Mechanic at Frystock AMC Jeep Eagle, Rahway NJ. My AC relay is however in the fuse box.

Three across on the bench can get a little tight at times; I regularly run my slender 14 year old daughter in the middle and my 17 year old daughter in the passenger seat to school in the mornings but its pretty much shoulder to shoulder. Legroom is a challenge at times too, being a floor shift and when they have full backpacks that they are too lazy to put in the covered bed. Oh well.

That is possible. It does have AC.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't do it for any long trips.

You are correct. Traced the wires out last night.
