China Between A Rock And A Hard Place...

Ok, lets just start this one with a question.

What do you think of the trade agreements the US and China have going?

I am referring to the way we ship raw materials or parts over to China to have them made or assembled and ship them back for our consumption.

I say consumption because we are consumers of China products because for the most part they are disposable. Not worth saving or repairing with new "China" parts.

This isn't even scratching the surface as to what 3rd rate materials they use to make our brake rotors we "consume" every year.

I have so many random thoughts about this post I can hardly group them.

Lets start by the latest one:

Went on an excellent trip out to Baltimore, D.C. and Annapolis last week or so, went to Ft. McHenry and visited the souvenir shop. Ft. McHenry and Baltimore are most proud of the Star Spangled Banner song and the American Flag. So what do I find in the souvenir shop but EVERYTHING including American flags made in China. Same goes for the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. The SR-71 hat is made in China but the ultra thin literally see thru T-shirt says made in USA. Totally backwards. I bet the shirt will make it a couple years before I have to throw it away. I can find a better T-shirt at any Meijer. It doesn't help that you have to pay the premium price just because it's in the shop. I can't believe after picking it up I could see light through the other side.

I have been keeping track of the purchases I have made. I try my best to buy American like the Brown Dog motor mounts with an American Flag sticker proudly adhered to the sides. My wife and I are expecting a little boy in January so I am not looking forward to buying more China junk and worrying about what kind of paint they put on it or what he chews on. Glad I saved all my old steel Tonka trucks and John Deere tractors for him to play with when he gets moving!!!

America is an ever changing place, if we don't change for the better soon China will be the #1 country in the world. They already control world trade and hold a stout investment in our future because we have run out of money somehow. We built China now lets concentrate on rebuilding America!!!

Sincerely,

agreed 200%... our energy needs aimed at the proper places though if we are to fix this. The big banking cartel that runs this country and the world needs to be toppled.

amazing documentary that puts it all in perspective. 2 parts. awesome info to research and digest.

I totally agree with you Knever

I don't usually go off on tandems like this, because most of the people I talk to about it already feel the same as I do, but here goes anyway....

Sorry to say this, but China already dominates America. Not only are our citizens to set in their ways to make a difference in the products they buy that actually SUPPORT AMERICAN businesses, but they honestly don't really care; as long as they have food in their houses, designer clothes to wear, and the technology that they "just can't live without" to use daily. :thwak:

Take a look at everything you own in your household, and try to find 10 things that aren't made in China. 90% chance that you won't be able to. It's a crying shame how a few decades ago, you could still find those "Made In U.S.A." stamps on a lot of the things you bought; now, it's nearly impossible. But not only that, the few US makers of goods (specifically Auto Parts makers) goods nowadays aren't any better quality than the "Chinese Charlie" parts you can buy at the parts stores and are usually nearly twice as much.

Made in the USA is a dying breed; and it's only through people like US here and the guys over at IFSJA (a lot more groups out there, but the only one that comes to mind) that still value the hardworking Americans who are masters of their crafts that can still produce the high quality goods that, at one time, dominated the industry here in America.

I think if I kept going with this, I'd just write a whole page basically saying the same thing. It boiles down to the lazy masses of today and their "ignorance and un-willingness" (for a better term) to do anything to support American producers and businesses. Hell, I work for Walmart, and everyone there knows that it's because of Walmart that we have so many of the problems with "Made in China" products nowadays. Supply and demand folks, that's all it it's about; along with the industry fat-cats making that sweet money at the end of the day. Other than that, forget about who you're stepping on, or what you're destroying to get there; am I right?

Incommando, I whole heartidly agree.

As for the rest of it, I believe the heart of the problem is nearly everyone I see believes that they shouldn't have to work for what they want, but that it is instead owed them. So we have all these lazy, wastes of air leeching from a system they put nothing into.

And don't get me wrong, I believe we should all do our best to make america the great country its always been, and I love her and all she stands for more than most, but can't help but wonder if all the leeches on society have made the field infertile, so to speak.

I totally agree. BUY AMERICAN!. Trouble is, you just can't always do it. Right now I'm remodeling some rooms in the house. Guess what? I haven't been able to find one item I needed made in America. All Chinese. Also I would like to point out. There's a bunch of people in China. Mostly Chinese I've noticed, Right now they are prosperous, thanks to our buying their disposable crap. Prosperous people don't start wars or invade their neighbors. Poor countries do. Think Japan, 1938. Germany, 1935, Anybody here remember World War II? It's in all the history books.

Want even more proof that this is getting rediculous? Look at this; a perfect example.

2 headlights purchased an hour ago from a local Carquest where my GF happens to work. Notice the difference in the boxes?

Out of the box. Everything seems alright....? Wait, no, there's something wrong here. You can see what's wrong. One headlight looks like it should, and the other seems foggy. If you can even believe it, the one on the left is MADE IN USA, circa 2003. The one on the right is made in China, circa 2010. Same price for both, but you can see where the quality is. The "Glass" on the one on the right doesn't even feel like glass, but rather a hard plastic. :headpop:

OHHHH man. I'm trying to hold back. lol. It all starts with the march toward socialism that started in this country right after the great depression. Which was a planned event to usher in social control so the bankers could make even more money and have more power. As soon as "social security" was passed... it was the beginning of the end. Then welfare and medicare and the list goes on. :fine print:

The more "handouts" the people are given, the lazier they become. A proven outcome of socialism/communism/fascism. Which have ruined every country they have been deployed in. Doing nothing more than feeding off the fears of the people to pad the pockets of the big bankers.

federal reserve? what is that? its not federal at all. Its privately owned and has ruined our country. Thank FDR who during this same terrible time period, took us off the gold standard effectively handing over the injured cat to the rabid pit bulls. :fs1:

Until we rid ourselves of this oligarchy and toss the federal reserve... we will never have the prosperous great country we once had.

:soap box:

Wow, I'm blown away from watching that clip. I didn't know a show like that existed, especially with an actor that was raised in Michigan and believes in us as a state and as a country. That is what America needs to hear, the truth...

Now, is it going to take another 9/11 to get people to think about America again? Lets pray that that doesn't have to happen.

All of this ^^ is anothee reason I pove this forum so much. It seems a large majority of us on here have common sense and can actually think for ourselves, a trait I'm beginning to believe is disappearing from America

China will pass us in GDP soon, around 2016. However, keep in mind the ratio of population verse GDP. They almost quadruple our population, yet we still have a higher GDP. They will pass us in Gross Domestic Product but they will never out produce us, unless they're able to crank out a GDP prospective to their population. Which will never happen.

http://www.foxbusiness.com/investing/2012/06/13/putting-china-power-in-perspective/

China is full of problems that are counter productive to becoming the worlds leader in commerce and trade and industry. First is their culture, its just not one that rewards or breeds individuals for high achievements. I've never heard of the "Chinese Dream", although I think its slowly changing with their growing middle class, but most of the Chinese are still dirt poor and wondering where they'll get their next meal from. Most of the population lives deep in the third world.

Second, without a representative government they'll never be a world leader no matter what their GDP is. They're bed mates with Russia in all global issues, not leaders, just sore jealous losers. Their power hungry evil communist pasts have put them where they are in the world, and they deserve the political purse snatcher status they have. They support evil communist governments, dictators and evil theocracies. They thwart our efforts, militarily and economically whenever they can. Righteousness is not a quality their gov'ts value.

So China makes our trinkets, so what? Its all they can do.

We have nothing to fear from China, Russia, or anyone else.

The biggest threat to America is Americans.

Jim and me are old enough to remember this same public rant about " cheap , poor quality , knock-off products " taking away our jobs quite some time back . Then it was "Japan" then "Korea" ....etc......who now have plants in North America ( Canada , USA , Mexico ) providing us with the jobs we need . This is capitalism not communism driving these economic changes ......Just food for thought guys
