Zenobian_84
More of a request than a "Help" thread. :dunno: Does anyone have a picture of this type of radio? I believe it used to be in higher end models of Cherokees, and am unsure if it was ever put into the MJ. I had a good opportunity to snag a working one early last year at the P&P, but didn't have the money for it. Now, I can't remember what the darn thing looked like, and am trying to find one again. This type of unit has the AMC logo and the "Grand Wagoneer" type script reading "DNR - Digital Noise Reduction" at the top of the unit; along with FM/AM / Cassette and possibly speaker sound output sliders. Thanks. ----- Seems the new forum layout doesn't allow for capitalization of words in the "Title" part of making a new thread. That really bugs me. :thwak:
dasbulliwagen
I have one of these in my truck. It came out of an 86 XJ Waggy. It plugged right into my 87. All I had to do was add speakers, as all of the wiring was allreadythere in my originally radio delete truck. Ill try to get some pics tommorow if I can remember. dasbulliwagen
I was wrong. Mine is not the DNR one. Mine is the "Electrinic Tuning" version. It has the AMC logo, and the "electronic tuning" is in the script you mentioned. It doesnt have the slides, it has knobs for the bass, treble, balance and fade. I didnt get to take a pic, but if you still want the pic, let me know and Ill go out there tommorow and take some for you.

I'm interested in finding the other variants of the AMC offered radios for our trucks as well.

Crist Clapper
FYI: I did finally figure out how to wire the wiring-harnesses from the 1987 XJ to the, much more common of the time, radio:

Just FYI the radio I posted came out of an 86 XJ Waggy Limited. It is mounted in my MJ and has been for quite a while. I like having a good working OEM radio in there. To me at least when I see an aftermarket radio mounted in a car it makes me wonder how bad the wiring got screwed up during the install and all the problems that go along with that. MJmk
I have the DNR radio in my truck, it was factory installed. It was the top option, with AM stereo and a search function for the cassette. Too bad AM stereo and cassettes are like 8-tracks now, only a handful of AM stations still broadcast in stereo. Two things I like best about this radio, are that I feel safer parking at a trail head because nobody will want to steal it, and when you unhook the battery, it remembers the station presets!
