HOrnbrod
Am getting ready to pull the plug for one of these. It has the Sahara trim level, leather, tow package, limited slip and 3.73s. I like it over the previous JKs in that they are now fitted with a new 3.6L V6 that puts out 285HP/260 lb-ft torque. To help with mileage I'll be putting on the 18" wheels. The wife loves it, and has great reviews. Will be trading in her 96 Malibu Maxx SS.So what say the folks here that have one?

Even without 3.73 gearing it is fast and can crawl. I recommend the Connectivity Group package. The EVIC gauges are great and have a complete menu system for configuring all the vehicle options.(Turning off hill assist, programming how the alarm works, gas mileage, etcetera.) If you want a more personal demonstration than what a salesman could give welcome to come over and I can give you a tour.
Comanche County
The wife loves it. Key words right there....Women are strange creatures. They don't have to know or care how awesome the Pentastar is but if she likes it, then get it! You'll reap the benefits later. Plus the math makes sense, for instance, "Babe, I just paid over 30K for your JK, you ought to at least allow me to "invest" a few more bucks in my MJ". HOrnbrod
Finished the deal this afternoon at our local dealership. Won't bore you with the details, but we did pretty well I think, came out to $24K with a very well equipped 2012 JK Sport (had more options than the Sahara) w. quite a bit of extra Mopar accessories included that I wanted (read chrome). :D . Did want to mention this though. We traded in wifey's 06 Malibu Maxx SS for the JK and got the $8K high end limit for it. I had my MJ parked outside during the 3+ hours of negotiations, and the owner of the three Jeep dealerships in our area showed up from the next town. He was called in by the local manager. Turned out he's a old MJ guy. I showed him my MJ, we yakked over it, and I let him take it for a spin. When he came back he offered me a $14K trade-in allowance against the JK bottom line, and made it clear he would be taking it home and not reselling. I told him to basically F-Off and die, but in a very nice way.

Automan2164
Not bad Don! Pretty cool to have the owner of a Jeep dealer take such a liking to our old trucks. Kind of hard not to with yours though. Recently I was looking at a Dart (Looking, can't afford/want a payment), and found out that Chrysler still offers the lifetime warranty. The details are a bit fuzzy now, but IIRC, a lifetime warranty bumper to bumper (minus wear items), was $4K, but had no deductible, and didn't seem all that bad if one was to keep a vehicle for a long time and drive it into the ground. We need pics! Rob

The fine print is the same that most warranties cover in that it only replaces items that failed due to “defects in workmanship and materials.” An engine that fails at 150,000 miles is going to be considered "normal wear and tear" of a part that had exceeded its design parameters and not a "“defect in workmanship and materials.” The 3.6L totally transformed the JK. Too bad the chassis/suspension still limits the trailer capacity 2,000 pounds WITH the tow package. It should be capable of much more. The MJ was rated at 5,000 pounds with the tow package. glundblad
I bought a 3.8 JK rubicon 2 door in '09. It doenst have near the HP the 3.6 does but we are very happy with it. My wife's daily driver was a tahoe. Last year, we got rid of the tahoe. Now she calls the JK "her's". Hmm. Anyway, we both really like it. Zero problems so far. HOrnbrod
I bought a 3.8 JK rubicon 2 door in '09. It doenst have near the HP the 3.6 does but we are very happy with it. I've been test driving the both the 2DR and 4DR Wranglers for the last few years and was not excited by any of them. Mama preferred the 4DR because it reminded her of her old 01 XJ. The pre-2012 3.8 2DR was a okay, but was squirrelly at anything over 70 on the highway. The 4DR was more stable, but a real dog because of the extra weight. With the 3.6 in 2012 they got it right. Brought it home today and did some unofficial in-house testing. My JK has 3.73 gears and 16" tires still (awaiting the 18") and it was pretty decent off the stoplight line. Mama knows how to drag a bit so we brought her JK and my MJ to a large abandoned parking lot in town where there is an 1/8 mile straight for public use. The MJ (me) left the JK (her) immediately but toward the end of the 1/8 the JK pulled almost even. Swapped vehicles/drivers; same result. 1/4 mile, maybe close, me thinks the JK would pull a close win. Weight. gearing, tires, many many variables. :D Very early impressions: The new 2012 JK w. the 3.6 is for sure light years ahead of the older underpowered 3.8 equipped models, and the final 01 XJs, but still not a world beater. It's a docile comfortable freeway and local in-town cruiser, and amazingly quiet. Good handling with not much body roll. Will post pics when I get the new wheels on - very soon.

87Warrior
Wow, 14K trade in value. Who would have though these trucks would APPRECIATE so much when the dealers couldn't get them off the lot back in the day. :dunno: Good to hear you like the JK. It looks sharp.

You would think that with three Chrysler dealerships, although all small, he would have run across some super nice ones through the years. I'm thinking he made the offer because he knew I wouldn't do it. I should have screamed HECK YEAH!! so I could see him tap dance.
HOrnbrod
Daughter #2 (the one in the USAF) got married here yesterday to a good guy, former USAF officer now an engineer with GE. They had a big outdoor wedding HERE and paid for everything themselves; I just paid for the rental of the place for the afternoon. For a wedding present we gave them the wife's 2012 JKU pictured above, and they are happy. They are off to Italy tomorrow for their honeymoon, and when they get back we'll transfer it over to them. Of course the wife will need another vehicle, and she wanted another JKU. Why not, this one's been great and has had zero problems. I ordered one exactly like the below, a 2015 Sahara with a lot more "stuff" that the old Sport and it'll be here in a couple of weeks. The wife selected it for the color, called TANK. Kind of different, I kind of like it too. Hope it's as reliable as the old one, but it should be even better as they have corrected the early problems they had with the 3.6L Pentastar engine. As soon as it arrives, it'll get some LED Headlamps and OME shocks immediately, although this one has a beefier suspension the the old one, so I'll have to test it our first. WTF, it's only money... :ack: :(

dasbulliwagen
The 12 model and early 13 models have an extended warranty on the left cylinder head assy. If you ever get a cyl 2, 4, or 6 misfire you'll probably get a new head... That is if it hasn't been done already. Even then some of the early repairs were done with the same part number so they can go bad again. Besides that you'll need to keep an eye on the oil cooler leaking underneath the intake manifold and the oil pressure sensor going bad throwing a check engine light. The 5 speed Mercedes auto trans is a decent one so you shouldn't see any issues there. I know you guys are going to love it.
xjrev10
Had a '14 JKU for a year. Nice car! Decent mileage. Expensive to modify. That's my take. Now I'd like to try a 2-door for a spell but I gotta find a blown up one or smashed one...

Yep, I knew all about that problem dasbulliwagen and luckily we never had any fault codes or check engine lights with the 2012 Pentastar, and racked up 50K on it. I checked the codes every month or so and we never had the dreaded clicking noise from the left head, so this 2012 was a one of the good ones. The 2012 had a 3.73 axle ratio and was damn quick, but the new 2015 will have the 3.21 ratio running gear. How will this affect it? I'm guessing a bit doggier off the line but better highway mileage? HOrnbrod
The new one is 3.73 with the tow package. It'll never see 24MPG unfortunately, and frankly find it hard to believe any JKU with the 3.6 could achieve 24 MPG. But I did test drive a 3.21 model first; seemed like a real dog compared to the 3.73 ratio and decided against it. The 3.73 with 18" wheels are a good combo.
