A laugh over a lowball

A buddy of mine works at a dealership that has a Rubicon with the Brute conversion from AEV, and a 5.7 Hemi dropped in for good measure. It's listed at $65k. A guy just called to offer $19k. Cash. Couldn't figure out why my buddy essentially laughed him off the phone.

Now, around here, I suspect most of us would rather have a $10k beast of a Comanche and pocket the difference, but there's no arguing that the Hemi Brute is a heck of a rig.

What's the worst low-ball offer you've gotten for something you own?

Had a guy offer me $2000 for my truck while it was at the shop about a month and a half ago. I didn't even look at him. Just said "try again" and walked off. I know what I have in my truck monetarily as well as what its worth to me. Besides, you can't put a price on all the looks and questions anyway.

Jeep math:

$1200 jeep + $5000 in parts = $1800 jeep :D

This pretty much applies to any automotive project. :fs1:

The formula for replacing any part with a better part to be added on to the resale cost.

(New part cost - OEM part cost) / 0.5

($120 control arm - $40 OEM control arm) / 2 = $40 added in resale cost.

The only reason AEV conversions manage to keep their inflated resale value is due to their rarity and stubbornness of the seller to get the price they want.

Those things are just driveway candy for people who can afford to blow 50+K. Rubicons are overpriced to begin with, 56K is way to high for a jeep with no back seat and an essentially unusable bed. To me it makes the jeep less capable and worth less than a standard Limited model. Plus, 5.7 hemis aren't the bees knees like everyone thinks, I'd take a pentastar any day over a 5.7 in a Wrangler, better mileage and comparable torque.

I know a dealership in TX that couldn't give their AEV conversions away. They finally sold it online to someone in New England.

RIPP also has a prototype supercharger made for the Wrangler 3.6L Pentastar. I am already drooling at the thought.

Most of that inflated cost on AEV is the included labor charge. $8,000 for the old TJ/LJ Brute kit is not bad if you do the labor yourself. Most of the cost in the kit is just the bed.

I own a 63 Pan/Shovel chopper. My first child basically. You really wouldn't believe waht it's cost me but anywayeverything is for sale right? Some guy aksed me as such one time and I gave him the old for a stupid price line-well he had a stupid price in mind-$3k-for a mint 1963 Harley that runs like a scalded dog. I just told him I didn't literally mean stupid and walked away.

I had a guy stop next to me at a light while i was on my way to work and asked if my truck was for sale, I said nope, never and the light turned green. He must've followed me for the remaining 10 miles and parked next to me and kept asking and I kept telling him it's not for sale and never will be and walked into work. 5 minutes later I saw him walk through the front door
