1986 2.8 V6: Dana 35C with 4.11 stock?

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody I have a quick question. I recently got a free 1986 Jeep Comanche X ( not a metric ton) with a 2.8 V6 and I've been looking at the specifications and could not find a rear axle ratio. There was no tag or any other numbers to give me a clue. Anyways I did the axle test. Spin the axle to see how many revolutions for one tire and it came to just a little more than 4. So my question is (assuming I have 4.11 gears) in 1986 was a 4.11 rear axle ratio stock or was this re geared.

Thanks ahead of time

4:11 were available as stock. I believe the 3;53 was standard and 4:11 optional. 2 of my MJ are '86 with 2.8, 5sp and 4:11.

Sweet thanks. Looks like I've got a similar build '86 with 2.8, 5sp and 4:11. For some reason earlier I though the 4.11 were only with the stronger drive trains 4L Dana 44/AMC 20.

While were at it; These are standard springs correct?

Thanks.

Some people seem to be confused, especially me, by the gear ratios in their rear ends. Also confused by the ratios in their Jeeps rear ends. Checked the Dana site and came up with the following.

Dana. 44, 4.09, rounded off 4.10 45/11

Dana 35, 4.10 41/10

Dana 35, 4.11 37/9

Apparently the 44 is only 4.10

The 35 can be either 4.10 or 4.11

Only way to tell for sure is removing cover and counting cogs.

For what it's worth

Thanks that clears things up. I don't think it really matters whether I put 2175.255 ft-lbs or 2180.5605ft-lbs of torque to the ground in first. Anyways can anyone clarify if that is a standard leaf pack in the picture above.

Thanks.

I feel like the odd man out. :(

My '86 Comanche X (2.8L V6, AX5, NP207, Dana 30/35 non c-clip) was 3.55's. Need to check the front to make sure the PO didn't decide to swap the rear and didn't match the gears though (was abused before I got to it but I got it cheap).
