89eliminator Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Just a little hill climb from the last wheelin trip. That's all the tired Renix had.
neohic Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 ... when were you up in the Iron Range again? MN, yes?
89eliminator Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 ... when were you up in the Iron Range again? MN, yes? last weekend of September.
neohic Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Hu... we should really meet up sometime. It's a four hour drive for me to get up to Gilbert, and three hours to get over to Dresser. Kind of late in the season though... any plans for anything else before winter?
89eliminator Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Hu... we should really meet up sometime. It's a four hour drive for me to get up to Gilbert, and three hours to get over to Dresser. Kind of late in the season though... any plans for anything else before winter? sadly, no. in the near future, I'm ripping everything off the jeep and plating the unibody. also have some other things planned for the winter. i guess i didnt realize/remember how close-ish you are.
neohic Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Actually I'm not all that close, but I like a good road trip. I'm way on the other side of the state from where all the good stuff is. The group I've been wheeling with have tossed around the idea of some winter wheeling though. How long you figure the ol' Elim' will be out of commission?
89eliminator Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Closer than we are haha. Takes a good 8hrs to get there for us. I have a trip planned with NAXJA for the first weekend in March so it'll be done by then. Never have been a winter wheeler. That's always my down time for repairs and mods.
neohic Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Sure hope you keep us posted on the upgrades.
89eliminator Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 i will try to. plating the unibody is a much needed thing for me to do. its starting to show some rust so i need to help save it. plus i need to tie my cage in better.
neohic Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 How have the joints in your front four link been holding up? Been doing a little bit of reading on forged rod ends and then I notice that you used heims for the rear. What are your opinions on rod ends, longevity, and performance?
89eliminator Posted October 20, 2015 Author Posted October 20, 2015 Haven't done more then grease the Johnny joints since I have had them. Very durable in my opinion. Landed on many of rocks. Only reason I didn't buy them again was price.
Jackrabbit41 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I'm planning on making a rear bumper just like yours. Are the bed side guards tied into the frame or are they just hanging off the bumper?
Rokstomper Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I just read the last 10 pages of your build thread. It looks very nice. I am still reading farther back to see a couple things like how exactly you built the front 4 link and how far you limited the front travel with the limit straps. I will be doing limit straps soon before a break a shock so wondering about that. I have also been pondering a rear 4 link as well so nice to see someone else did it. Looks awesome, keep up the good work. nice tube work on the cage as well.
89eliminator Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 I don't remember offhand but I think the shocks fully extended are 31" long. So I strapped them at about 29.5". The straps stretch a little.
89eliminator Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 I tried to document the front 4 link but can answer any questions you have.
Assman603 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Incredible build. I love the rear 4 link setup.
89eliminator Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 And so it begins. Kinda thinking about making a better bumper to improve approach angle. I'm constantly hitting that thing.
89eliminator Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 picked up a full set of frame stiffeners last night. can't wait get those on!.
DansGreyMj Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Did you get your stiffeners from these guys? http://www.t-mfab.com/store-3/cherokee-xj-comanchee-mj-parts/
