Virginia
I've got the 6cyl 4.0 4wd. What plugs do you all recommend?
Pete M
plain ol' copper plugs.
Geonovast
If you ask for OEM, they'll usually hand you NGKs or Champion Coppers. Don't get platinums.

btm24
Ive allways wanted to upgrade to some of the bosh ones like this: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Bosch-Iridium-Fusion-Spark-Plug/1989-Jeep-Comanche-2WD/_/N-ihexuZ8gctd?counter=0&filterByKeyWord=Bosch&fromString=search&fromWhere=Brand&itemIdentifier=870978_0_0_ Brandon
Virginia
I put the new plugs on and that took care of the missing. The old plugs are just BAD. A yellowish-white hard buildup on them and almost none of the metal electrode post left. I'm surprised it ran at all. I've been looking for pictures to show me what might have caused what I had and I can't find any. My haynes manual got flooded when my truck flooded and I haven't replaced it. Anybody have pictures of different fouled plugs and an explanation of what causes it?

knever3
e3 spark plugs are what I would use, they won't open up like regular plugs so the gap will stay consistant. Horsepower TV tested them and got more power better mileage and lower emmissions by using these plugs. They are not overly expensive like the Bosch platnium plugs either. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQJeepQQCherokeeQQE3QQSpark_PlugQQ19782001QQPYRE358.html?apwcid=P1135867996W43b3f85c7ab9e&apwid8I1V365
mvusse
Did they test them in an MJ or XJ with the 4.0?

I just thought it would be cool to have. Thanks for the info tho Brandon
summerinmaine
Local shop sold me a set of the Bosch platinum plugs for less than the copper plugs would have cost. They work fine. I'm not sure why folks say to stay away from them. :dunno:

I'm not sure why folks say to stay away from them. :dunno: Because the platinum tip breaks off and grenades the piston. And they don't produce any better fuel mileage than standard NGKs, so why spend the extra money?
summerinmaine
Well as I said, there was no extra money involved. So what is the risk that there would be a catastrophic failure? :???:

Because Bosh makes great products and thought that there best product in spark plugs would be an upgrade. but that is a bad way to consider an upgrade i know. mvusse
Bosch in general makes good products, but I've never had much luck with their plugs.
aperseghin
i have the double platinum in mine, cost me the same as the copper because i know a guy. they seem to work very well. whats all this about grenading a piston?
carnuck
My Renix rig has the EGR disconnected, so I used NGK BKR6EK plugs to kill the ping monster.
88SporTruck
My MJ came with Bosch platinums in it. It ran like crap. New Champion copper plugs got it running like a champ. If anyone likes the platniums you can have them. Come pick them up or pay shipping and they are yours!

Virginia
I went with the recommendation in the repair manual. The stuff on the plugs appears to be normal wear but lots of it. I'm sure the plugs should have been changed long ago. My mileage seems better. It's not missing anymore. No rattle on acceleration and the temp in running normal now. Go figure.
