echdaviem Posted June 30, 2010 Share Posted June 30, 2010 well ive had my truck now for about three years and i figured i would start a build thread 89 Jeep Comanche 4x4 4.0 poo joe D30 D35 this is going to be a Daily driver and hopefully into a light offroad capable truck. i haul motorcylcles on the back of my truck all the time so a lift will be minimal at best here are some pics of what i have now, just installed buckets and center console and carpet but i have to rip it all out to fix the floor. echdaviem Posted July 14, 2010 Author Share Posted July 14, 2010 went to the jy couple weeks ago and got a gauge cluster while i was there. got it all installed last weekend. i just followed the instructions in the DIY section and it all went pretty easy, even matched up the mileage on it. also installed my aftermarket gauges into the center console two weeks ago, i'm doubled up on gauges now, kinda pointless but it's in there so it'll stay for now. oh yeah i still have to get an oil pressure sensor. know where i can get one cheap? i should've gotten it from the cherokee i got the gauges from but i wasn't thinking about it. echdaviem Posted October 3, 2010 Author Share Posted October 3, 2010 well haven't done anything to the truck in a while. been kinda wanting to do a booster upgrade for a while cuz brakes on the comanche suck so bad. so this weekend i went to the u pull and pay and scored me a booster and master cylinder from a 95 grand cherokee. such an easy conversion, and you don't have to move the washer bottle. the only modification you have to do is make the hole on the rod bigger and grind down the end a little to make the original brake light switch work. i can't believe i havent done this sooner because the truck stops way better now. i swear some one is going to rear end me this week cuz i'll be braking like i normally do and stop so much quiker. i didn't get pics of the install but i got a couple of it already installed. the pedal is a little lower i think. and the old crappy booster/mc i don't know if you can tell from the pic or not, the pedal is about 1/2 inch lower Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

mjeff87 Posted October 6, 2010 Share Posted October 6, 2010 I put the same booster in my MJ (or it may have come from a 96, can't quite remember) and have the same difference in pedal height. Other than it being a bit aesthetically unappealing, it functions correctly. This was probably the best mod I've ever done to mine, and I've done ALOT of mods...... :D I ended up grinding off too much of the back of the booster rod and couldn't get the brake switch to function correctly, so I ended up swapping in the entire pedal assembly from the donor XJ I got the booster out of, and used the newer style contact switch. echdaviem Posted October 8, 2010 Author Share Posted October 8, 2010 i was wiring in a plug for trailer lights today, worked out pretty good. after i did that i noticed this under the tail light. someone please tell me this is not how the factory spliced wires i removed the duct tape and put dielectric grease on the splice and then taped it all up. echdaviem Posted October 18, 2010 Author Share Posted October 18, 2010 got one of those plastic wire covers from the jy yesterday so i spent some time cleaning up the wires under the hood this afternoon. looks much better around the fuel rail. also got some clips for the smaller coolant lines running along the valve cover. gotta install the tubes for the heater core this week cuz its going to get cool soon. also added lights to the tags on my rear bumper. the camera over exposed the pic cuz i had it on no flash, it really isn't as bright, just right :idea: i should be a poet! :thwak: or not. echdaviem Posted November 14, 2010 Author Share Posted November 14, 2010 been reading on some thread on hear about sway bars and such, decided to do something about my sway bar situation. i haven't ran a sway bar on my truck for like two years. i know thats stupid to do, the old sway bar link was hitting the spring on one side and couldn't figure it out so i ran with out it. went to go look at it the other day and figured it out finally. i guess at one point the PO changed one of the links, and used one that was a different length. so of to the JY i go. i found one on an 89 XJ country that was 1 1/16 of an inch, the old one was 15/16. so i installed that and man what a difference, drives like a go cart compared to before. hardly any body roll. Also found an Mj there today, 88 pioneer 4.0 auto 2wd. no tail lights, messed up tailgate, anything MJ specific was pretty much gone or messed up. the B pillar interior pieces were there but weren't absolutly perfect so i didn't get them, mainly cuz of no extra dough. got the VIN and such, even found a VIN tag on the rad support, drilled that out and got it. got one comanche emblem too if anyone needs it. so all in all it was a pretty good day at the JY. too bad i didn't have a camera with me. echdaviem Posted March 8, 2011 Author Share Posted March 8, 2011 did a little bit of insulation today and then put the seats in cuz i have to drive it to work in the morning. went to lowes and got some self adhesive duct insulation stuff to use on the floor. seems pretty good, wish it was more sticky though.
