Jeepcom23
I read that it comes on at 82,500 to change the o2 Sensor, but I'm at 120,000. And why would I ignore it?
johnnyc
Because it's on a timer. I just took the bulb out of the cluster when mine lit up. Maintenance done!

mfpdm
Are the maintenance timers in HO era Jeeps? Seems like all the parts lookup for it has 88-90 for the replacement module. :dunno:
johnnyc
At least they had them in 91 and 92.
1986Comanche
Yep, the emissions maintenance light is set off by a timer. Here is a picture of the timer.

Dave Stark
The '91 & 92 HO's do not have a mechanical timer, it is actually integrated into the on-board computer. The only way to get it reset is to have a shop do it that has the OBD1 scanner. It serves no purpose in the functionality of the truck (in other words pull the bulb it will save you time & money). Do not confuse the Maintenance required light with the check engine light: Maintenance required light is only the O2 sensor timer. Check engine light means you have a problem that can actually affect the operation of the vehicle.

jeepdoggydogB
In California you will get "fail" on your smog test if one removes the "bulb" for the MAINT REQ light (or any other bulb that flashes at startup), I tried that trick one time. The smog technicians around my parts actually test the bulbs at start up. I purchased the DRB II scanner shortly after to reset the light. I can't help but wonder what RENIX folks do here, since those emission timers cost so much.

Just one of the many paybacks you Cali guys have to suck up and shell out for the privilege of living in "Paradise" Joe. :D Although I can see the need for the DRB2 since you have an HO if you got it cheaply. There are times I'd like to have one too. I pulled the MAINT REQ lamp many moons ago...............

88SporTruck
The PO of my Comanche had tried in vain to color over the light with black sharpie to make it go away! I removed the bulb and used it to replace my burned out "BRAKE" lamp (which now stays on constantly due to a bad ebrake switch) and I removed the module and mounting bracket and threw them away. Problem solved permanently.

Pete M
I think he's referring to using the ebrake instead of putting an auto trans in park, which reduces stress on the parking spur.
