88pioneer
I've been looking into lift kits, and i think i've decided on Hellcreek. But now i'm stuck on how high i want to go. I am looking at both the 4.5" and the 6" and was wondering if anyone is running either of these and how they like them. I would also like to do a spring over, but i could live with the spring under for now.
ComancheKid45
Sorry I'm no help 2 ya, but I'm also intrested in Hell creek kits, Ive got my mind set on there 4.5" kit since its only a few dollars more over the 3".

Pete M
second ? thought about gears yet?
88pioneer
the gears is what i was thinking about, not looking to change those yet, and thats why i was kinda leaning towards the 4.5 and running a 32 or a 33.
Pete M
3.07s are painful with bigger tires. :(
ComancheKid45
I have 3.55s and plan on 31s.....I planned orgionally just a 3" lift but their 4.5" kit is tempting
HellCreek
Hi, Â I just thought that y'all ought to know that our XJ and MJ kits are made up of our rear springs and Rough Country front parts. The 6 inch kits are 100% Rough Country. They have good parts; that's why we use them, but I don't like surprises, and I treat my customers the same way. I know personally if I ordered a lift from you and received RC parts for the front I would be PISSED that I hadn't know that up front. 88pioneer
I've heard good things about rough country. Would anyone happen to know what the gearing might be on my 87 2wd with the 35. When i do my 4x4 swap i will most likely swap a 44 in but just in case it would be nice to know
500 MJ
All the info I have would put your '87 5sp 4.0 Dana 35 into the same category as my '88 was when I got it - '88 5sp 4.0 Dana 35, with 3.07 gears. Â I didn't even mess with re-gearing it, I took it out and it never came back. There are enough guys out there (at least up here) trying to get rid of their MJ Dana 35s that are geared at a much more desirable ratio. You could probably go pick one of them up CHEAP and just swap it in for a short term solution.
88pioneer
I also found a 29 spline 8.25 on CL out of a cherokee. Its got a powertrax in it too. $400 bucks for it
Pete M
what ratio in it?
88pioneer
o yeah, forgot that part. 3.55's
whowey
o yeah, forgot that part. 3.55's   3.55's and 33's are pretty much sucky.. and I live where its relatively flat.. If we had many hills at all.. That combo would REALLY suck.
mvusse
With stock gears being 3.07, 3.55 puts you close to stock ratio with 33" tires.
500 MJ
I'm running that combo right now and I have been doing it for the last few years. Â It's been pretty good on gas, but I'm sick of it. 4.10's are coming next year when I install lockers!
88pioneer
Yea i think i'll either look for a 35 someone is getting rid of or if i can find a 44 with a good ratio in it. Not too worried yet. Gotta get it running before i can lift it
Pete M
8.8s are pretty common in 4.10, frequently with posi (but don't get posi if you want a lunchbox locker instead).
88pioneer
I also have my other MJ that i'm tearing apart and taking the front axle from. I'm not sure what the gearing is on that. 88 4.0 5spd 4x4 with a
88pioneer
And i just found a 35 out of a 92 cherokee for sale, got 3.73 gears, guy says make an offer on it. Hes also got an aw4 and a np231 from it for sale if any ones interested
Pete M
4.0 +5SPD = 3.07 Â 3.73 gears are fairly hard to find in an XJ dana 30. don't buy a rear without getting your hands on a front (unless the truck will remain 2wd of course).
aemsee
But the 3.73 was fairly common in ZJ's with the factory tow package.
Pete M
tru dat. semi-common in TJs too. but both models are low pinion (and ZJs sometimes came with CV joints) I guess it all depends on what you want to do with the truck.
