bigd44889 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 ok here is my problum i got a 93 s10 blazer with 4.3 4X4 auto not to bad of shape no title so what do i do the 2.5 in the mj is messed up the hole bottom end is rattling so do i sell the blazer part it out or try to put the 4.3 in the mj i don't have much money to work with so what do i do :hmm:
Automan2164 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Sell the blazer, take the money to get a new 2.5L, or upgrade to a 4.0L. You are going to run into all sorts of problems trying to make the 4.3L work, and the 2.5 and 4.0 are supposed to be under there. I say find a jeep mill, and throw it in. Rob L.
dasbulliwagen Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Not worth the hassle. Youll need to change the whole driveline including the front alxe to make what you have work, as the Chebbie is passenger side drop. Sell the blazer and buy a Cherokee donor with everything youll need, or just find a used 2.5!
camjeep3 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 sell the mj keep the chev... no don't do that, just find a used 2.5
bigd44889 Posted August 17, 2009 Author Posted August 17, 2009 blazer has front drive shaft on driver side as far as that just need drivshafts made just not sure about wiring it
reson46 Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Youll need to change the whole driveline including the front alxe to make what you have work, as the Chebbie is passenger side drop. Not true. GM S trucks had a driver side front output. Even used the NP 231. Willy
Pete M Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I say swap it in! :D But then I have a sucker for tough projects. But before you do, go look at the advanceadapters.com or novak engineering websites. They'll have what you need to do it right, and it might not be cheap. :(
Darren Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Put the 4.3 in your Jeep. You'll have a badass and unique Jeep. Putting the 4.3 in your 2.5 is probably just as hard as putting the 4.0 in there.
DirtyComanche Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I'd probably swap the 4.3. However, just look through my build threads and ask yourself 'Is this person of sound judgment?'
brdhntr Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 part out the chevy and use the bucks to buy a used jeep motor. save yourself some headaches and just stick another 2.5 in it and use the rest of the money to put lower gears in.
bigd44889 Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 ok lets try putting it this way i think i'm going to pull dash and bed pull all wiring complete harnessfrom both all sensors relays everything from headlights to tail lights motor trans and t cace from both put all chevy parts in mj have to do custom exhaust and drive shatfs i run machanical guages allready oh swap steering coulum also and figure out spedo and ya i know :fool:
DirtyComanche Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 No need to swap the column, it's GM anyways and should work unless there's a pile of different features.
Pete M Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Have you looked at the advanceadapters site yet? IT's been a long time since I even thought about the swap, but I seem to remember that the exhaust manifolds were an issue. :dunno:
DirtyComanche Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 The stock stuff fits fine, or some combination of stock stuff, IIRC. But the downpipes have to be jammed in there really good. Aftermarket stuff, no such luck. Everything gets you into the frame.
bigd44889 Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 hay pete not a prob. there is a shop local that will make them for me
Pete M Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I remember reading that AA had some special headers for the conversion. But if stock will work, then it's all good. :D
Oizarod115 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 ugh... i just got done putting a lower intake gasket on a 4.3 S10 at work... i would NEVER consider this swap. what a turd. (yeah, yeah, yeah, it's all in what you're used to. but i despise that setup)
Pete M Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I'm sure it depends on what type of work an individual has done to a particular engine. :D I'm sure they all have their sore points. I despise the Ford 4.6 motor. :shake:
terrawombat Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 The 4.3L Vortec V6 is no picnic to work on - even for the simplest of things like spark plugs. I'm not sure if the engine bay of an MJ/XJ would help or hurt its ease of access.

I'm not sure if the engine bay of an MJ/XJ would help or hurt its ease of access. yeah, i'm not saying its a bad piece because they make some good power, and don't seem to be as prone to leaks as the FWD 3500s and stuff are but it's not much fun.

BY no means am I saying it's a shoddy engine, either. I've got a '98 Blazer that I've been daily driving for the last 10K miles and I've been extremely pleased with the performance of the engine. Has plenty of power and can still pull off 23-24 MPG on the highway if you drive it right. I was contemplating getting a 4.3L V6 for one of my MJ projects, but I wasn't ready to tackle such a project.
freakjeep93 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 my dad has a s 10 with the 4.3 and hes gotts take the drivers side tire off to get at spark plugs :ack: ut its got plenty of powah :D
