Geonovast
Picked up an XJ for the GF today. :D Floors are solid, manageable rust, a little TLC and she'll be a decent Missouri-tripper/kid hauler. 88 4.0 AW4/231. $400 Needs a febreeze job, valve cover gasket, IAC(maybe) and blowby fixed. 206k, but she runs great and at startup Oil Pressure reads about 70. Brand new tires and a Full size spare on a matching 10 spoke rim.

JeepcoMJ
correy, oil pressure should be around 35-40 @ idle with a renix, 45-60 @ running rpm. 70= not good.
Geonovast
It settles down to around to about 55-60 when it's running. I'm gonna do an oil change in the next few days. I have a feeling there's too much oil in it.

DirtyComanche
I don't trust the factory guages. Exactly. It's probably perfect. If not it might just have a bit heavy of oil in it (diesel oil, perhaps).
Geonovast
M'kay... I've got an extra gauge sitting around, but I don't know condition of that one. I could swap it though and see if there's any difference. :dunno:
Pete M
I don't trust the factory gauges, or the sending units, or the wiring in between.
Geonovast
M'kay then. Well, other than too much oil... is there anything that could cause the oil pressure to be too high?
jtdesigns
Pressure relief valve, heavy oil, a partial plugged port, or orifice. Hook up a manual gauge to the tee and get a good baseline.
500 MJ
XJ looks great! As far as the gauge goes... My startup oil pressure is around 80 :clapping: Basically I just use the gauge as a "reference" for when things are not normal...
