Sir Sam
A guy came by tonight doing a followup on an article from last monday's paper, I missed it so I didn't know what it was. Answered a few questions for him, showed him my chickens. So then I went and looked up the article: http://www.coloradoan.com/apps/pbcs.dll ... 9901050327 So ya, because I paid $30 for the chicken permit like I was supposed to(which is more than a dog license BTW), I now got my address posted in the paper........hope there is not someone out there who takes an issue with me having chickens and decides to come by. Better lock the gate tonight.

Have you asked them why they did this? That would be my first cause of action. Then I would ask to see if a list is published concering other domestic animals. Eagle
Rule 1: Just like Mama said when you were a kid, "Never talk to strangers." Unfortunately, it seems today that everyone has an "agenda." I'm in a job where we watch what the newspapers report about the town, and what we have seen is that objective reporting (the old "Who, what, where, when and why?") is long dead. It has been replaced by "investigative journalism," which about 25 years ago was worth something but which has since devolved into nothing more than a euphemism for muckraking. Newspapers are losing readership to the Internet, so they need NEWS!!!! to sell papers. They don't want to pay real reporters a real salary to report real news, so they hire interns and give them an assignment to go dig up whatever they can about ___. Then they give it to some hack in the editorial room to churn out an article that they can slant however they think will be most controversial and attract the most readers. I've seen it happen. In fact, my boss was quoted in the morning paper today. It is exceptionally rare to find a newspaper quote that is (a) accurate, and (B) not taken out of context so badly that the way it appears is the exact opposite of what the speaker actually said. "No comment" is your friend. P.S. 25 years ago, reporters had enough integrity that "off the record" meant something. Today, you cannot make comments "off the record," because they're probably taping you while you're off the record (off the record used to mean the tape recorder got shut off and the news pad got closed), and whatever you say off the record will be in the article tomorrow. HOrnbrod
I ASSume you're in the Ft Collins city limits? Chicken licenses :hmm: , just another innovative way for the local bureaucrats to collect your $$. At least you're legally allowed to raise chickens on your property. But publishing it in the local rag - don't see any point in that. Someone must be abusing it by maybe selling chickens commercially and someone else is complaining? pingpong
I would ask them to publish all the pppl who have dog and cat licenses for that matter too. Or better yet.. what about the exotic pets licenses. Where I live 2 counties over.. if you own a snake, emu or other out of the norm pet.. you have to register and get specal insurance. It was one of the reasons I got rid of my snake.

I don't think so, just from the tone of the article and everything I think it was more meant to show that in the city there are several of us who have chickens. The problem I have is that they specifically published our addresses, instead of just showing approximate locations or even street names.
johnnyc
I would go and talk to the other chicken owners and see what their thoughts are.
deziped
Did you read all the readers comments to the article you cited in your initial post? Gives a pretty good explanation of why the map originated & what your neighbors and others think about it. Better be alert for that fox with the frying pan & ham that was spotted in your neighborhood.

Gawd, what a bunch of idiots, and it always seems the most idiotic people are the most vocal.
jtdesigns
Your going have PETA ppl marching in front of your home screaming at you and picketing signs that say, "Free Foghorn Leghorn!!!!" At least your not fighting them like rednecks around here.... If I ever get time I'll snap some shoots of a few chicken fighting farms near me... mvusse
You know, an old friend of mine in Canada told me over the holidays he was planning to change his shed into a chicken coop and have some chickens. He lives in a city also. I thought he was  , but now I find out it's actually becoming quite popular.
