  1. I agree here, and simplify that wiring under the hood. But those tires and axles arent big enough. You need to go to some rocks mounted on some 46's, and word has it, that someone in the club has a set of 46's for sale, pretty cheap. Just ask!
  2. If I wanted a sports car, I'd buy a Mustang with a Cammer "Five Oh" swap. If I want an SUV, I want a damn solid axle and selectable 4WD options, including 2WD Mode.
  3. Pete is still on vacation/camping in Arizona.
  4. If it's IFS, it's not a real Jeep! I have heard a few horror stories with those damn WK's. Everything from fires, to blown motors, to bad vibrations, and a few others. You'll never catch me riding in one.
  5. Congrats on the new little bundle of joy!
  6. Well, Saturday morning before I headed down to bradford for some wheeling, I've got some parts sourced, for a nice and low price, and legally. The JY I like just got 2 ZJ's in, so I'm all good, just need to go an pull my new stuff :D
  7. My 98 231 cracked in a few pieces in a 40mph collision, so don't be complaining. It's called cast aluminum. luckily, everything but the case itself was salvageable.
  8. I didn't look at the pumpkin, so, a picture of the axle shaft end would do more justice. The JY is about 15-20mins away, so I don't go every day. I've got to talk to hi about a job there, the one I'm waiting on is taking for ever....
  9. Get a chebby van driveshaft (much longer than needed) grind your welds off your yokes, and cut the chebby's ends right off, at a perfect 90* cut. Weld in your yokes, and make it the length you need. great trail shaft, and getting it balanced should be relatively cheap. The Chebby's tube is slightly thicker, but the correct inside diameter as what you need. It's what I'm doing for mine.
  10. I didn't actually get a look at the pumpkin, but the shaft ends gave me the crazy eye, saying "44" but I've never actually looked at a 20, so it could be, if the area in the middle of all the studs has a similar design to a 44 shaft. Yes, 2.8L, my bad, I doesn't study my older MJ's enough, but the tag off the tailgate said 2.8, but that was after I had posted, and I forgot to fix it. 4.10's, eh? :brows: Are lockers available for AMC 20's? Mechanical, electronical, Or air actuated, doesn't matter. Tow package, I'm almost positive I saw something below the bumper, I was mostly admiring the lack of rust on the cab, it's so pristine.
  11. last I checked, the latches were different. Maybe it will work the same, but have a little "looseness" to it... I dunno, I've always been told they are not a direct swap, and I know the MJ and early XJ strikers were the bolt style, whereas the newer XJ style is the doubled sheetmetal loop thing that attaches with 2 nuts and bolts. I guess if they have the same position, it should technically work.
  12. Yep. They bolted right up Would the newer doors bolt up? No. I believe the hinges are the same, but the striker and latch systems are completely different. Eventually, My doors will get upgraded to complete the look of a 98 MJ. Not sure if Brian is going to upgrade his doors or not though.
  13. egg-zachery. I may be slow at getting stuff out, but I eventually get it out, once I finally stop admiring my huge piles of Jeep parts... :D
  14. Not necessarily.I, as well as most people fro my local group live in NY, and a few weeks ago, my buddy had his rig out for the first time for a wheeling test drive (first time out of the shop after a ton of mods) and he got pulled over in PA, luckily, got away with nothing, and he had tires way beyond legal, bumper heights too high, and some other bull, but my other buddy is friends with a lot of the officers, so he popped a few names, and got them off with nothing but a waste of time. Basic line, think about a motorcyclist, in PA, you may be able to ride without a helmet, but once you enter NY, that helmet better be on. It most likely applies for any other state.
  15. Yea, I was cruising my regular JY today, when I found my next project... http://swatoffroad.com/images/for%20sal ... 0003_1.JPG (image a bit big for you dial up users) The rear wheel well areas are the only places with rust. I already brought the tailgate, and the cab vents home. I'm going to talk to my buddy about this one, and see if He will let me bring it home. If it comes home, the interior is getting stripped at the JY, no if's, and's or butt's. The interior smells like chicken anus mixed with old beer from the mid 50's, with some other wild concoctions mixed in. It's an 86 with the 2.8L I'm thinking something along this: but black, fixed doors, and a little lift to stuff 32's, as well as upgrading the front clip to the 97+ style. Drivetrain? 4bt, turbo 400 and a 231. It already has a 44 out back, and a perfectly good 30 hanging out front. interior would be upgraded with a red WJ dash, steering wheel, and center console (minor trimming with the sawzall :brows: ), red leather seats out of a WJ, and some other doo dads like a sunroof, and overhead console... :D

    My house!

    schweet. :D
  17. If I stood on mine, made out of those, it would have crushed when i stood on it. I'm happy with my creation. It's MIG welded too, I just need to clean it up sometime, some of the welds are sloppy.
  18. Looks to me my ZJ will be loosing it's discs. My buddy who works at a 4x4 shop was nice enough to run out of one of many breaks and measure for me. Must be nice to have 150+ axles out back.... Anywho, yes, this will be a great thread to watch, when it happens.... :brows:
  19. That was my mom's second car, but a 61. Sorry to burst your bubble yet again, but the 'cuda didn't come out until 64, and in my opinion was ugly, as were the 65 and 66's. been a while since she told me, but it was something fast and something chrysler.
  20. I built a fully custom PSC Bruiser chassis out of 1/8" solid steel wire, took about 4hrs, and just going off a few pictures, but it's fairly accurate. Some day, I'll get some axles and a motor, and linked coil suspensions on it along with a bit of a body to keep it clean looking. It was actually designed so well in fact, that I, at 187lbs can stand on it, and it doesn't give the slightest bit, so its BUILT! I certainly over-engineered it in guess work... It measures 10-3/4 long, 3-1/4 wide, and 3-1/2 high. All measurements in inches.
  21. That was my mom's second car, but a 61. Her first was a 69 Mustang fastback with every option. A little over a year after she got it off the lot brand new, someone t-boned the car and totaled it. She wished it never happened, said she would have kept the car to this day. Her cousin still has his 69 fastback with a original silver paint scheme with dark silver stripes, He's the original owner, it still has the original tires on it, never seen a winter, and he drove it for 5 summers after he bought it before he decided to put it in his barn on jack stands. He does start it every now and then, and keeps it in tip top shape. And yes, He watches the Barret Jackson auctions, and I have no clue why he is just looking at it... I wish he would either drive it or sell it. I'd love to have that car, only 8500 miles on her.
  22. Well on the fitment issue, to fit ZJ disks to an 8.25 all you have to do is ream out the center hole ID about 1/16" maybe a little more. The bearing retainer bolt pattern is identical and usually doesn't require any modification. On a side note-be careful raiding junkyards at night, I know most don't have dogs anymore, but I'm good enough friends with some of the guys at my local ones to know, when people break in, the guys aren't afraid to use guns. nobody is at this one at night. besides, the back doesnt have a gate or a fence for that matter, so you can actually freely come in, it's just a dirt road about 1/2 mile long half loop, and most people don't know about it, a quick run up a 4ft bank of dirt (which a stock cavileir can easily get over), and your in the yard. the only dog he has is on a chain at night, and during the day, and also, the dog stays inside, so it doesnt do anything good anyways for the yard. more or less a show piece lol. The guys are never around at night either, and all the vehicles are over a hill, and behind a few big @$$ piles of dirt, so you can't see anything anyways. use a torch, cut some brackets, and bolts, and drop the axle right out, snip some lines, and toss it in the back, and go. I honestly don't think it could be easier. Get some damn rear disc brake assemblies for me and a few other rigs... Whatever the case, I bought the parts, as he ripped me off before, so I'd say these parts are included in the price I previously paid.
  23. I like the idea of a high pressure tank... I was thinking using it with an OBA compressor, but a carry it on your back version would kick @$$ for junk yards.

    My house!

For the driveway, just get a load of boulders that are too large for anyone's landscaping. Boss: Why ere you late to work today, John? John: Oh, I snapped a u-joint, getting out of my garage. And then I dented a rocker, flopped the Jeepm on the side, and then, I twisted an axle shaft at the end of my driveway. Boss: ... John: Yea, my driveway isn't average.
