The other Chief (Getting it ready for paint)
JeepcoMJ replied to 1999MJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
damn nice machine for the $$$. chief too :D in regards to the bed, that can be pulled right out with some nice caressing. I venture to say you could make it un-noticeable with the right knowledge and care. -
hey, if you do it by supporting the jack and "dropping" the tranny down about 6", it's no big deal...the crossmember has to come off either way. For the one time I did it, I supported the tranny pan with a jack and 10x10 block of wood, dropped the 8 bolts for the crossmember, the 4 that connect it to the bottom of the tranny, disconnected the shifter, lowered it, undid the nuts, slid it off, and reversed that to put it on. tranny crossmembers are the worst. that's why I opt to drop them frequently...keep the bolts lubed and easily removeable so that the next time I won't break them or the studs off. makes sense to me...and cutting a hole in the floor wouldn't make sense with a bench seat, or a full center console. spending time underneath is really the best way without removing the tranny entirely.

JeepcoMJ replied to 90PioSport99's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
haha, that's the SAME truck i'm getting. a red pioneer...89. I like the stance, and I may adopt your ideas on the decal removal..I really am not a fan of the pioneer stripes, but i like it sayin pioneer. good work, I hope to see more of this sweeet ride -
do you mean ax-5? no such thing as an aw-5 is there? just for my clarification

place it in a 5 gal. bucket with gas in it (clean bucket), run a hose from the output around back into the bucket, grab a battery and some test wires, and hook up power and ground. be careful...keep the test wires hooked to the pump and just touched on the battery...it may spark a bit so keeping it AWAY from the fuel is a good thing.

the setup is pretty flawless there. only thing I would do is rebuild the upper mounts on a welded in crossmember and triangulate the shocks there...angle them in towards the center on the top, and outwards on the bottom, with the eyes facing the same way (forward/back). that would allow for flawless movement of the shocks and a good swing through the "arc" that Eagle was depicting.

I love it when I'm doin tranny work and start bringin tranny fluid to the interior of my truck and pouring it out...the people who can't see it that are there are laughin their a$$es off cause they think i'm pourin it all over the place. If you do it through the fill plug, you have to use a nipple and a small 1 quart container. while that's the right way and most definitely the way to tell if it's full as can be, it's just plain easier to do it otherwise... I always remove the fill plug and then remove the shifter handle, pour from the top, and have someone spot me on the bottom with a pan...it starts leaking out of the fill plug hole and you know you're done
-
well, easiest way to fill any manual tranny IMHO is to remove the center console, remove the shifter plate, and remove the shifter, and fill.

I wouldn't let the 3800 go for anything less than 8 grand right now...and probably about 9 once it gets the new lift and tires. but that's me and if someone wants what's sentimental to me, they gotta pay big $$$ for it.
-
gotta be honest, yours is the nicest eliminator I've seen...and it's worth more than that. don't sell it.
-
my 86 beater had the brake = turn signal lights on problem. I've decided to junk it cause it isn't worth my time (rust was the problem, wiring just an add-on) make sure that if you are cleaning your old fusebox, that you unscrew it and clean the wires and connectors on the BACK of it

Need quick advice on an axel swap.
JeepcoMJ replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
sorry i didn't look at all the pics...it looked round to me. now i see the retarded diamond shape :D yea, you can put it in and the yoke should be the same too, so simply burn on new perches, get the right e-brake lines (or retrofit yours, or maybe dana 35 ones are the right ones?), new brakes and fluid, and you're all set. get a good pinion angle set while you're at it...not too far down and not too far up. i don't do degrees...just eye them up. someone else can tell you degrees of the angle -
look at 89eliminator's truck. that's what he did and it worked nicely, perfect fit. only the TOP of the 2 DOOR xj rear flare will work. and about 3" down the sides. you have to re-drill holes but it will replace that metal

i think that's a chrysler 8.25 -
Pete should chime in about his dad's libby CRD... now THAT'S what you need. with the offroad package.

I'm sorta a loyalist when it comes to manches and xj's.... BUT i gotta say i wish I'd fixed the zj I had...it had a blown motor, wrecked front axle, bumper, and grille. i traded it for an 86 cherokee that had chrome front end, door handles, etc. and a/c, and buckets that matched mine. and cruise. so MJ's are nice...I like them alot. BUT i feel that a ZJ would be an excellant vehicle for driving and looks.

by sunk I mean had it in water to that height...not literally sunk.
-
extreme heat and lots of moisture...have him go over the electronics, and change ALL fluids...check for water in anything, I'd bet he sunk it.
-
twist, how many jeeps do you own?
-
i was talking to johnq...his truck is kinda a resto/mod truck IMHO. it's wheelable and could easily be made show-truck.
