crappy photochop. someone on the club had suggested this to me. and I kinda like it. sorry, no tail lights were in the pic I chopped. anyways, I wanna restore dad's truck, and I want the 3800 to be black. I have an OK shortbed I can fix, and since the 3800 isn't stock anyways...well it goes from there. btw I'm throwing ideas out left and right today.

Rear shackle relocation into frame rail?
JeepcoMJ replied to TNT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
go to cocroft and ask about the blue comanche box up the hill. it has rust-free, riveted on OEM bedsides, and I know you can get them for less than $200. it also has the inner fenders intact. there's the answer. -
:D not right away. plus the engine swap could be done in literally a couple weeks now that I've done it once.

Rear shackle relocation into frame rail?
JeepcoMJ replied to TNT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
TNT, don't truggy it. I should be able to get you good inner fenders to put in there, and at that point you just have to trim the bad spot out enough to work on the bedsides...which I think you already have done. -
no rear tow hooks. look closer, it probably says tow package. that's a class 3 hitch, not tow hooks.
-
wow, moving that hoist must be a bugger..
-
anyone ever done this before? I want rear bucket seats, and after reading about the headroom issues, am thinking of raising the roof about 4-6" like a conversion van on my 86 2.5 xj. it would of course include a roll cage. the xj has all power already. literally everything from factory that was available except for the amc20 rear axle, and power seats. I figure I'd like to put a camaro 3800 motor in it (from a mid-90's camaro) since I've already done this to my MJ. twins ya know? :D anyone have pics of an xj with a raised roof?

1986 cherokee 2.5 FS $1500 OBO

yankin the motor from the MJ this friday, and choppin up the MJ on saturday hopefully cleaning and new gaskets on the motor too. then following saturday will be the "finish the xj day" hope to have it completely done and driving it in 3 weeks. -
I almost bought one today... then I realized that I'd have to spend $450 on a 360 in order to play it. and I don't have $450 to spend...time to sell $#!& :D
-
well, basically they're over-technical pieces of junk. all electronic controlled. to get to the glow plugs or injectors you basically have to disassemble the entire top of the engine, and to get to the top of the engine, you basically have to yank it. they're trying to shove the engines farther in to save on length of the vehicle. repairs are frequently needed due to poor engineering, and said repairs are difficulet due to what I just outlined

the 89 that TNT now has had this kit, my 3800 has most of this kit (no tank skid), and my cherokee has it. plus I have a few sets in the barn for a rainy day :D it's not a "kit" that was really sold aftermarket, but it was stock on many xj's and mj's, and usually accompanied by tow hooks

I would take the slip yoke from the original driveshaft and cut the end off of it. then weld a front yoke onto it (centered of course) and have it balanced by itself. drill a hole in the end, and thread/bolt it down :D it could work I think. I actually think that I can take the outpt shaft from my spare tranny and have it duplicated for greater strength and tolerance from a stronger/thicker/better metal. we shall see if I can. eventually. I was just thinking...
-
hey, how hard would it be to build your own SYE? I've just been wondering... cause it seems to me that if I were to drill and thread the center of the output shaft, then combine a front d.s. yoke from the t-case with a slip-yoke, and bolt it up, that would be all I would need.. flawed thinking? probably...

I have a cheapo one that was free... but GOD I love the forklift ;)

engine paint scheme decided... white longblock, black oil pan, dark red valve cover with sanded high spots, and all black brackets with cleaned/polished accessories. in honour of the 1978 yamaha srx440. my favourite sled ever! -
yep tim, I think it was in 4wd with a fubar'd front d-shaft and the wobble in the d-shaft (yay non-balanced d-shafts!) caused cracks in the case which destroyed itself... it's an OK theory... pics manana
-
found reason replaced t-case. it's a 23 spline short input t-case. the only thing that blew was the case itself, all the bearings are good, and the internals look like new. BUT the front driveshaft universal intermediate assembly blew the f*k up. so I'm thinking that that's been broke a while. then the wobble (there was wobble...I didn't know what it was) kept going until the case cracked, and fell off. oh, and it was in 4wd as well. the shift fork in there tells me that in fact it was...

....chevy. enough said :P

yea.. i don't know about you.... but I DON'T want that gosh-damned chrysler 3.8 v6 in ANY of my vehicles. change your package to include the 4.0 and I'd buy it.
-
yea I do! it's UP! christ. I could find Canada...but then, why the hell would I want to? it's not like there's anything there... hahaha. kidding of course. I wear velcro shoes cause I don't even know how to tie them...
