hey! I have a chevy motor...well, buick but still! it was in a chevy...
-
yup, but now I can still shift....sometimes. before the bearings bind up. and then the gears move around or something and it just lets loose and grinds like a mother.
-
....it blew. no work on yankin motor now this weekend, gotta prep the new tranny 2nite, go see the sis til sunday, and install the new tranny sunday nite. sucks.
-
thanks wade, I just found that out today...I'm going to platteville this weekend, but I think my bro and I are gonna crash at my apartment 2nite, go in the morning, and head up to platteville via madison after that at about 2 or so... thanks though! oh, the grinding in the tranny is TERRIBLE now...I'm gonna try swapping fluid tonite to see if that will help for now. also, I'm putting a "new" wheel bearing on the front left side since that's the problem side....I just don't have time to actually replace anything major right now. the xj has gotta be done first so I can park this POS.

different rad. from a 4.0 I think the headers are the same though...so I could put a 4.0 rad in it :D but I'm not gonna since I have a HD 3 row rad to put in it.
-
true. do you think the 4.0 spare fan would be enough? or I probably need bigger...
-
10-4. maybe I can find some sucker to buy it. I only payed $100 for both axles, complete with ebrake system and all the steering/control arms and such as well.

we're gonna ditch the 2.8 on this, and next time beater comes to my house, we're planning on putting a 2.5 outta a 1985 xj in it (but with TBI intake). it will also get a swap to the manual ax5 4wd but retain the np242 selec-trac. I'm pretty sure this will be a direct bolt-in project, but I'm going to keep the 2.5 harness from my 88 2.5 MJ just in case anyways (interior and exterior). anyone ever tackeled this? speculations? Joe just needs something that dosn't drink more oil than a hooker sucks...well...you know :D

well, got a new front axle for it, a 1994 dana 30 with 3.55's and normal 260 joints. but it's in good shape, not bent, good hub bearings, and no CAD to speak of (thank god). also tore the ax5 outta tater before I scrapped it, so I have a good tranny and t-case to replace my worn out one (bad bearings and syncros on 1-3 gears lol). it got hit in the back of the bed, so at the very least I gotta clean up the problem area and bend it back and primer it...I'm not driving it this winter anyways. also have an xj 8.25 rear axle from the 94 xj. not sure on spline count, and I don't really think I wanna install it...unless I can get a disc brake kit for it for cheap. it's low pinion. i don't like that. and I would like to lift it and put the 33's I have under it.

ok. I'll figure out how to mount it to a clutch cause I want it in there lol.

the 2.5 MJ I have that is the donor of the engine for my 2.5 xj has a aftermarket fan. it's really nice...but it is solid mounted to the waterpump pully (where the old clutch operated fan would be). I'm concerned that this will keep the engine too cool as it runs all the time. do you guys think it will be a problem? I have a stock clutch operated fan, but don't particularly care to use it as it's ugly. this one is black with chrome blades...bad reason I know...
-
haha...yeah.... well that's cause except for the 89 and the 87 sport I've never had shortbeds (that weren't parts trucks)

Temp Gauge problem.
JeepcoMJ replied to chicofuentes0224's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
good question...new thread on that so the great minds can help out. I venture to say your rear proportioning valve isn't working properly, if at all, and should be removed. I would replace that junction block thingy with one from a cherokee...they are a proportioning valve. -
Temp Gauge problem.
JeepcoMJ replied to chicofuentes0224's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
splicing more wires together? it's a strictly non-splicing swap. direct bolt in of all necessary parts no, you don't have a 92 gauge cluster, in 91 they went to HO and 92 was electric speedo. oil pressure sender is right next to the oil filter, and now ya know where the temp is too. rear left side of head on top corner. go to napa or bumper to bumper, and tell them you need the sending units for oil and temp. from a 1990 jeep cherokee 4.0 with full gauges. they're both 1-wire sending units. and if you want, I can send you a working 4.0 gauge cluster for $15 plus shipping, it's a cable-driven one like yours and I can set the mileage to whatever miles your vehicle has on it. -
thanks! any idea on cost of a new chain?

Temp Gauge problem.
JeepcoMJ replied to chicofuentes0224's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
your oil pressure sensor is off as well unless you replaced that sending unit. temp. sending unit is on the head. is it a 4.0? back top corner of the head is the sensor you need to replace. question...how did you get the electronic speedo to work? cause 92's had electronic speedometers. make sure the sending unit you get for the temp. is for the 92 year since that's a HO unit, and also you might want to take a look at your fuel gauge...I would be surprised if it is accurate as that would have changed as well. -
Buddy of mine is lookin to rebuild the np242 in his little bro's grand cherokee, as it has some chain slop. anyone have pointers? I'm gonna be helping. also, where to get the new chain, and what is required for a rebuild...I only think the chain is sloppy, so maybe just a chain and a new case seal? any help here would be great :D

I still have a rusty one, and an xj roof could be incorperated to fix the roofline issue... but thanks :D your points are duely noted

I can build a power slider out of a 3-pane stock mj rear window. haven't done the mechanics of it yet, but I will be doing that soon using a power window motor and track. and that cost me all of $10 and some nicely done engineering. :D
