I will be looking at a diesel swap for it if I restore it. or I may just sell it.
-
I had gotten pics of it the other day here they are it has 11,473 original miles on it. the floors have surface rust, but no rust through was apparent. frame has surface rust, but no rust through. the driver's side fender is dented and did have a hole from a gouge, and rust-through. the piece behind the front bumper is solid except at the seam to the fenders. the rear right quarter panel has small amount of rust at seams, plus small (quarter-sized) hole above it and on the back lower portion of the bed below the tail light. some rust on tailgate, not rust-through. it's a half ton. so, it's dana 44 front and rear. the seat is in pretty good shape with just a couple tears. interior is complete, headliner is mint. original radio. it's a custom cab edition. means lotsa chrome anyways, done deal. he gets an auto/np242 tranny with a front axle and associated hardware installed, and floors replaced, in his 1991 shortbed MJ, and I get the j4000. the 91 shortbed has some rust and could use a paint job, but really not terrible. oh, and factory rollbar :brows: lucky guy.

I believe the reason that people won't is that it would "take effort"

I believe he did what most people did...buy sheetmetal and bend them to patch what he can

I don't know if you could handle all that power and the chicks it draws. :laughin: You could probably keep these guys buisy readin the "Smoker Rebuild" thread for a couple of years though. "Old Man" opsled Damn it!! I dropped my cane!! oh no, it'll be crutches next...

I saw 3 comanches with 242's but know no history. it's not to say they weren't put in, but I've seen them. no factory support and no factual evidence of the option, as said AMC did just about anything a customer wanted...but, I can't back it with paperwork.
-
the 242 was also available in comanches, it's just rarely seen

If that is/was your truck, I'm sorry, and don't mean to offend, but I just threw up a little bit in my mouth... and Red is my Favorite color...uck... SW2 that's a factory truck. built that way, that's no custom mod by the owner. forget what they're called...there's only 100 or so were ever built

anyone know of a good how-to on replacing ball joints on a dana 30 axle? specifically, without a ball-joint specific tool.
-
ah sorry bud, I didn't read that you said "factory" and "tube" in the same sentence...
-
I beg to differ you must have gotten lucky. that detonation happened at 45mph shifting on the fly, and the t-case had brand new, topped off fluid. talk about bind at high mph...every time you shift at that high of speed, you risk what you see above
-
there actually was a factory (or at least dealer) tube rear bumper installed on these jeeps. I don't think that one's it though.
-
carb? what motor. if it's got the 2.8, you need other mods before you consider half the stuff you're doing
-
and plasma cutter...ya need one of them ;)

how do you figure the tranny was swapped? does the vin show that it's auto? decode your vin using this site http://jeep.avtograd.ru/VIN/vin_en.asp for factual basis on the tranny options. I very much doubt it was swapped. if it was, there's a good chance the engine was swapped too (it's just as likely as swapping from auto to manual)

Problem with my engine temp reading:
JeepcoMJ replied to Car RamRod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
nope, 87 is center pivot just like 88 on up -
yea, tried, couldn't match up the rear corners...it came out like sh*t so I tossed it
-
I guestimated high *shrug* either way, I still get killer mileage :D
-
it's an orig. pioneer to be sure, but it should have full gauges black bumpers did come on pioneers too..my bro's was black and factory.
-
to glove box? nope, not possible. your heaterbox/ac box is right there. you could do it if it's a trail only rig with no heat, but not any other way. plus, that will create negative cabin pressure in the xj/mj cabs...which will probably result in the "pop" feeling in your ears with windows up...again, not a great thing for prolonged amounts of time. snorkel won't affect visibility with the xj...it sits in a blind spot for the most part, and the only thing you may notice is not seeing 2" or so over the flare that you otherwise would have...but so what? and as stated, they're tough, IF you buy the right brand.

it's not personalized, they've just grown on me and they're what I think my jeep should be. I'm  registering in my name next week...
-
I'm not happy...I really like the plates on the truck, but since I'm switching the title to my name, I can't keep them. sucks
