Looking to purchase, need adivce. pics attached
JeepcoMJ replied to Enlighter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
guys. stop making assumptions based on one picture of the underside. it's just dumb...you cannot tell much from that picture except that it's got a rusty, typical leaf pack and bumper mount, a spare tire (and a carrier that actually holds it up), and a dana 35 rear get us pictures of the rest of the body before we can tell you it's worth it. -
Head liner removal Need Help.
JeepcoMJ replied to Redramman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I layed cloth and then glassed it, BUT it's heavy as hell now and not so fun to install. just resin with hardener should keep it together...keep in mind though, that the backing board ABSORBS the resin so you'll likely use quite a bit. and yea, a scraper is the way to go. -
Head liner removal Need Help.

it glued itself to the rear window. they installed those after the headliner at the factory. first you need to make sure you took out the back trim, the B-pillar trim (where the seatbelts mount), seatbelts disconnected, and A-pillar trim with oh sh*t handle. after that's removed, there are two metal clips that hold the headliner to the sides. if you pry outwards and down on them, they should slide down. otherwise you can bend them down and just bend them up when you reinstall the headliner. there are also four velcro strips (2 front, 2 rear) holding it in that you will need to be careful removing. I advise at least letting the headliner board soak with fiberglass resin and dry out before you try and glue new material to it. otherwise, the board (which is made of many, many layers of some fiber-stuff), will just peal and the fabric will fall again. -
well, here are the pics of the process. didn't do a DIY or anything on it, just snapped a few here and there. first, i decided to test the front bumper out and yank the parts xj out of the weeds then get the truck set up and start yanking the axle and oil pan on friday night new RC adjustable control arms, which are actually very nice and entirely greasable now with a new bushing design I believe in this pic the oil pan is out now putting the axle back in with new control arms the darn thing wouldn't let me put the driver's side UCA in, so I checked measurements, found I was accurate, then used a engine hoist thinger that was in the shop, with a chain bolted to the diff and the ratchet-hoist's other end on the opposite side of the trans crossmember all bolted up, but need to lengthen the upper control arms about 1/8" i think, to make it work properly. all done. the rear main sucked, I borrowed some tools from TNT so I could scrape it properly and then use his angle air grinder with some plastic wheels to buzz whatever small amount of gasket was left off. the pan went in without a hitch, and I cleaned the crap out of it before it went back in. oil pan gaskets suck to do...they don't want to stay up. rear main was easy.

well, I've never really posted up a pic of me. ironically, this is about the only pic of me with one of my MJ's i've got and here's my bro and his 88 we'd just gotten done kayaking...he normally sports dual kayak racks on the sides of the cargo rack he built, but he'd had them off since he went to chicago the day before. now, let's get back to zoolander here

well, if you do the front you NEED a selectable locker if you want to drive on the street. with no variation between wheels, you can end up wrecking the shafts because of wheel hop...turning plus locked = carnage if you're not careful. I'm between the ARB, and the Aubern Ected electrics...I've heard good things on both, but heard more bad things about the electric lockers than the air lockers. I prefer electrical things (wiring is kinda my thing) over air or mechanical, but my entire truck will be brimming with unused air, so air is the most likely choice. I understand that OX is making a variation of air locker to substitute the cable as well, last I heard.

there was a "debate"? ... um to this point, I've seen only petty bickering directed FROM democratic candidates (ironically, most of them are female and are discouraging a female simply because she's republican) TO republicans. while this is to be expected, it's unfortunate that the republicans have sunk down to that level. that said, I'm falling back on one thing; who has the hottest VP? :brows:

haha. I choose "Obsessive Comanche Disorder"

haha. how about "totally off his (her) rocker" here's more "OCD MJ Addict" "too far gone to be saved" "stuck on MJ's" "lives and breathes (for) MJ's" :P gah. nice to be addicted...not much left to do to the 87 after today. i'm about halfway through my first 4.0 rear main replacement. done it before, but never under a vehicle...always with the motor out, where my arms don't hurt from working on it.

gah! I'll update with pics later on...but i HATE doing oil pan gaskets. the darn gasket was literally baked onto the block...i've been going at it with a gasket scraper, razor blade, and an angle grinder with the plastic brush tip thingers to finish it up. had the front axle and pan out of the truck last night, then started on this at noon today and now it's 3pm and only just getting the gasket cleaned up. oil pan is cleaned, and now I need to do the final clean on the gasket surfaces, then pop the rear main cap to swap the seal (which should be fun to slide out...). then on to re-install the fron axle (I'm SOOO glad i tore it out btw) with the new RC adjustable control arms. from there, my front suspension is done and the rear just needs new shock mounts :D

...it's okay. you'll hate me when I point out that those are probably 5 on 5 bolt pattern may wanna check them. if they're off anything after 2005, chances are they're not the correct bolt pattern. the wheel adapters would be something like $150 shipped at the cheapest.

posts. holy crap, I spend WAAAAY too much time here... the doctors say that I may have OCD... :redX:

finally got the control arms in. the axle is half out (almost done), the oil is draining, and after a solid 7 hours of sleep, I'll be back at it to do the rear main, paint up the oil pan, check the torque converter bolts over, clean up the frame rails with a scraper (oily....), and install the RC adjustable control arms :D

I didn't realize this was going on...no shortages here, though prices did go up to almost 4 bucks a gallon for a bit. I drive a company vehicle 5 days a week, so the gas prices don't really affect me (our overhead is low, profit is high, so 40 cents means didly squat). now, on to figure out what to do with the gas in my truck...it's been on Full for two weeks now :brows:

very nice MJ, and nice work. one thing I would change on your mounting for the rear bumper, is to make the hitch supports go lower onto the hitch assembly. that hitch is one giant arm which will compound leverage and cause bending (only if you're hauling beyond it's weight capacity most likely)

I've experienced it a few times. always between 12:30am, and 7am. it's been happening more frequently of late, I just figured Pete was doing maintenance or something?

you won't need the wire, it's already there behind the factory B-pillar. as are both plugs for the switches. I have two cargo lights, and two switches for fogs and cargo...one is in the 3800 and one is going in the 87. the 3800's will be coming out, but I have 4 comanches here right now, so it'll go in the diesel most likely. very nice find. pics of said yard please.

*shrug* I've been out of town for work since I started this thread. anyways, It burns me that people behave such. I won't be someone's lap dog, so i'm not going to abide by the "work your way in" technique. it's a bunch of crap. good hard, solid facts and plain truth are what anyone asking a question wants. so, if someone new pops up on a site and offers facts and can back them up, much less corrects someone who is wrong and has given mis-information, I wouldn't give a darn. matter of fact, I welcome it and so I hold everyone else to the same standards...basically I want the !$#@%s on those sites to just STFU and take it like a man, and learn. I understand that everyone gives information based off of their personal experiences. hell, my personal experiences don't abide by the factory brochure 80% of the time, but I still let people know my experience. perhaps I need to inform them that this is only my personal exprience prior to though. It's unfortunate when people base facts on mis-information and then combobulate their wrong facts into right facts, resulting in a bunch of chicken sh*t and someone wasting $$$ on the wrong part that won't work. blah blah blah. sorry guys, I just guess I'm sick of things, and I'd like to see some general consensus on facts vs. retards (not to be politically incorrect, but hey...)

I have no idea why you wouldn't strip the green one, put it all in the eliminator, put all the eliminator 2x4 parts on the green one, and sell the green one off. at least then you're not killing a perfectly good MJ. there's not enough left out there if you strip it, all I have to say is wtf are you thinking?!

I've been on jeeps-offroad.com for awhile, and only came there to offer correct information...someone was offering information that an ax5 would work with a 4.0 to a newb. that is just plain wrong, and could cost someone money or worse. anyways, at J-O, around every corner I find another stupid statement, another stupid assumption, or just plain mis-information. If you're a "newb" (even just to the site), you automaticlally know nothing. I don't really care what they think of me there, so I tell them like it is (or at least the way I see it regarding opinions). maybe I'm just being a fool, but i really cannot stand those little forums where people think they're right and can't take information from another source to append to their current banks of knowledge. yes, I know sometimes i may be wrong too...and i'm stubborn about it until proven completely wrong. I'm sorry for that. but, just wondering if anyone has had a poor experience with another site like such?

likely 3.55's but maybe 3.73

man, I hate inspection. I've only ever once had to do it, and i ended up driving away wanting to hit the guy who did the inspecting. it's a 21 year old truck, of course it's not friggin perfect.

hang on... you won't need to remove the transmission if you have an external slave, which could be the case if you have a 4 cylinder 5 speed, or if you have a newer ax15 in your rig. just think about that...cause if you don't have to drop the trans, you'll be much happier

no, i don't. the only thing i know is that they're supposed to use the standard 3-bolt mounting plate, and many people upgrade to them then crossdrill the output side so that they can add a power steering cooler.
