for my new rear bumper. I'm going to wrap it around and ad sliders from the rear wheel well to the rear bumper. but I can't figure out how to anchor it except to cut the lower bed sections off...I really don't want to do that... call me crazy, but maybe someday I'll find a nice shortbed street truck needing a box, that has a box suitable for a clean wheeling truck  but, I still debate on it. I could cut it and have the bumper set in nice but still do it's job.. I have another box right now too, that I could cut the sides off and then use tubing to outline the original bedsides and make the tubing follow the stock design then put trailer lights in the back. that would be cool...but alot of work that I don't have time for right now. opinions? ideas?

it's under the reservoir in the fenderwell. there are actually two of them. to get it, just pull back the front of the inner splash shield inside the fenderwell...the front part just drops down, making it plenty easy to get done without taking the whole fender or flare off.

:rotfl2: lol yeah I guess your right.. I just hate to put more money into a lift then I paid for the whole Jeep..... man, you're talking to the KING of cheap comanches (not to sound conceded)...i know how you feel. but, the 3800 started out as a $300 abandoned mj in a field...now it's around $8500 in the hole, and the 87 was $700 worth of scrap (all leftover scrap from previous projects...I made money on those projects so that = free in my book) and now it's $4000 in if I figure everything into it. BUT then again...I made money off the parts left over from everything anyways, so...it all balances out. buying a good new lift or great quality used parts is the way to go...I just suggest steering away from used rusty's parts, alot more than i suggest steering away from new rusty's parts. plus, why did he take the lift off anyways? what broke on it :rotf:

4.5 allows 33's with pretty good trimming...nothing serious, but proper trimming does help. anyways, RUN AWAY

the difference is the insulation in the hood. it gathers weight as it sucks in oil :brows: from leaks, and also absorbs moisture. as the years progressed, the hood insulation was made of slightly better material which doesn't quite "absorb" anything so much as "deter" it. the other difference may be a lack of insulation on the newer style, and having insulation on the older style. wanna make it better? remove the old insulation. if that's not your case, then your jeep is on 'roids

anyone ever ran this kit exept on a comanche?
JeepcoMJ replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
those wishbone longarms don't do ANYTHING. they need to be a 2-piece y-link to be adjusted properly and allow for proper flex and pivoting of the axle. -
yay. I bet project88 can't turn left either...

libby is worse than that. got a friend with one, he gets between 15 and 21 depending on how much he's on the skinny pedal. that includes highway mpg.

Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry used to say a man has to know his limitations, well I know mine. I frankensteined the old unit to the newer JY unit and now my fuel guage works in reverse! That was the deciding factor for me to get another JY unit and send it to the guys in the link. let me know when you get it back and get it swapped out again...the newer unit is a high output one and I could really use a good one...mine needs to be repaired. -Pat

as long as it's out of a shortbed. that's the biggest thing you're looking for. -
86 v6 trans swap question...
JeepcoMJ replied to dasbulliwagen's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you will need a custom rear driveshaft built, and don't forget to swap the shifter linkage for the 4wd. -
hey buddy, we're just razzin ya a bit. don't worry we all like you. I'll talk to you about the bed by the end of the week btw. I'd like to grab the tail lights and tailgate too if possible

OK, I'm Stupid about 4WD in MJs
JeepcoMJ replied to rworks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
^^^ That's also my understanding. "Selec-Trac" does not necessarily mean a 242 transfer case. The 242 was not used in 1986 ... which was the only year Selec-Trac was offered in the MJ. agreed. your truck is bastardized enough that It may well have one. but it's not stock. -
86 v6 trans swap question...
JeepcoMJ replied to dasbulliwagen's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
nah, the 86 should have the hole there, the screw holes won't be tapped though. I've done this 5 or 6 times now. both 86 and 87 should be external slave cylinders, but you never know. is your 87 a longbed? is it 4wd? then the driveshafts are completely interchangeable between the jeeps. but to help you, we need to know 2wd vs 4wd. -
86 v6 trans swap question...
JeepcoMJ replied to dasbulliwagen's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you don't really even need to swap the bellhousing, but you can. just look and make sure they both have the same clutch assemblies etc. and make sure that if the 86 is 4wd, the 87 is too. you cannot mount a t-case on a 2wd transmission. oh, btw they are not hard to rebuild. both correy (geonovast) and I have taken ax4's and ax5's and combined them for one good 5 speed, and also converted from 2wd to 4wd. -
1997-2001 center console in an MJ? T-case handle?
JeepcoMJ replied to phenryiv1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
remember it's the entire handle pivot and bracket you're swapping though...not just the handle itself. -
yep, i know. I cannot for the life of me find our damned digital camera...everyone says they don't know where it is, but obviously SOMEONE has it because it's not me. I don't want to spend the money on the digicam right now. the pics were better before I swapped the faceplate on the cell phone...I think I'm gonna put the old one back on since that's free for now.

that soft-topper is SWEET. do they make them to work with roll bars too?
-
did an oil change (using oem mopar filter and switching to mobil one full synthetic 10w30 and... got the rollbar...it was already removed from the parts truck. unfortunately, couldn't pick up that 88 chief because the wiring is fubar. fuel pump only comes on when the radio is on, and the starter turns over at -100 mph lol. so, I'll go tow it home next weekend with a car dolly. anyways, here's the crappy pics of the bar mocked up in the 87. it needs the mounting plates all replaced but otherwise is in good shape. spare tire mocked up in new location OBA tank in it's location so, for $250 for an 88 chief that's completley fubar rust-wise but only 130k miles, I think I did well. got another dana 44 (3.73 gears possibly limited slip), dana 30 (3.73 gears) aw4, np231 (never been engaged), 4.0, new radiator and nice e-fan, good engine bay harness (this is great because the one from the 87 was fubar but this one is nice so I have a complete 4.0 swap kit), factory front skid, front tow hooks plus brackets t-case skid gas tank skid split rear window tan folding buckets plus brackets full gauge cluster plus sending units working dash clock factory radio good tan carpet e-brake assembly floor shifter assembly tilt black steering column cruise control remote mirrors plus blockoff plates nice 5 spoke jeep wheels and good tires I think it's funny how I can catagorize every part of value off the truck by now...

1997-2001 center console in an MJ? T-case handle?
JeepcoMJ replied to phenryiv1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Any write-up? no need. just get a TJ handle, remove your old handle, and drop the TJ one in place. then hook up the connections. TJ shifters aren't set up for 242's though so it only really works with an np231 I can dig up a pic of it when I get a chance. -
lol. I bought my mom a pedicure today...now off to pick up the 88 comanche chief before she gets home
-
I dropped $13 at the self wash today and came out with a pretty clean truck, no salt or grime built up underneath (people look at ya funny when you don a wetsuit and some goggles at the car wash, and climb underneath  ) anyways, as a result of the car wash...paint has begun to peal up on the passenger door. whoever painted the truck after it had it's wreck years ago didn't prep properly. SO this spring when it's getting longarmed, it will get a paintjob. it's going to be semi-gloss black, OR I'm thinking of going black and white camo with it (very cool IMHO) the interior will probably go to black since I've got a spare black interior from the 3800 (picked up my 98 charcoal interior a few weeks ago) I also pulled the spare tire carrier, and toolbox out (permanently) and the drop-in bedliner. today I'm picking up the 88 chief I bought for parts...can you say rollbar? :brows: what do you guys think? just semi-gloss black, or camo black/white? -Pat

yep, t-case handles swap. you can also use a TJ t-case handle, it's a bit higher than the xj ones.
