  1. The gaskets necessary to put carb on it cost half as much as a painless wiring harness. And if you have a friend with alldata, it's easy to mod the chevy harness
  2. If you swap just the longblock, no. If you want the fuel injection, you need to add to the harness
  3. Wiring is the same if you put the 2.8 intake and carb on. But personally, I would go painless, or piggyback the harness from the do or car
  4. redwolf, you need to get someone who knows what they're doing to work on that thing.
  5. What trans do you have right now? I will tell you that the "4 cyl = 4.10" concept is flat out wrong. You *should* have 4.10 gears IF you have a 5 speed. But if you have a 4 speed, you WILL have 3.55 gears. Just don't count on having 4.10's if you have a 5 speed, as it was still optional. Also, if you do have 4.10's, I would keep the gears, put in a 4.0/ax15 5 speed/np231, and a 3" lift with 31x10.50 tires. The 4.10's would be perfect
  6. I agree it's as easy as any swap could be. I still think getting it done in one weekend is impressive, but JeepcoMJ is correct -- it's pretty much a bolt-in swap all the way. After all, the vehicle was designed to take both engines -- how hard could it be? I'm probably a bit spoiled with what I have bought for tools, and what I grew up with. Being properly equipped always helps.
  7. 86 are the only years I wouldn't bother with a 4.0. If I have to fabricate stuff, I'm putting a bigger/better motor in.
  8. I did a renix to H.O. conversion less swapping the fuel sender in 2 days. Renix 2.5 to Renix 4.0 with an 87-90 is about as easy as a motor swap gets. I do not understand how it is hard, or impressive, to do it. All the bolt holes are there. Get these parts from a cherokee. Engine (fully dressed) downpipe to crossmember Engine bay harness (unplug at firewall) and underdash engine computer and tcm as well radiator with lower positioning rubbers and uppers rad hoses frame side motor mounts coolant reservoir and hoses transmission transfercase with shift linkages spare rear driveshaft made to proper length trans crossmember and mount new fuel pump for 4.0 to put on your sender and swap it all. the 87-90 2.5's use a 4.0 core support with an adapter to put the 2.5 radiaor in. switching to and from manual will require other parts as well.
  9. Gotta tell ya, I'm glad you and the owner got things figured. Nice to see that project done!
  10. I have tail lights and bucket seat brackets. $125 takes them, I'm just up in Burlington, Wi.
  11. See the ladder rack posts? Put 4x4s across your bed from side to side, set this down upside down, and hook 4 straps to those posts and your tie downs. Would work perfect.
  12. Flip upside down, set on bedrails, strap like a mofo. If we could figure out how to get it from there to wi, I would compensate for it. Just can't get the time to come for it.
  13. I have one but you have to take the switch with it. $75 shipped.
  14. Coaching 36 girls and 22 boys in high school has taught me something. You wouldn't believe the boyfriend/ex boyfriend drama.
  15. He isn't a real friend to you, and vice versa. Reality is, he knows you well, and to him, you aren't good enough for her. Not that that is the truth, but it is to him. You will never be friends while dating her, and for a long time afterwards
  16. All manuals suck in drive throughs and anything stop and go. Nature of the beast. Alot of leg work Why do they suck in drive throughs? You don't even have to hit the gas when letting the clutch out. It's almost like lifting your foot off the brake to move a little.
  17. Put it at the bottom of the page. Then the people who care will use it, and it won't be used as a search bar. I don't care about it because it's used as a tech deal and search bar. Would actually use it if i didn't have to sift through the nonsense from clueless people who post to it.
  18. Manual MJ's are a lot more fun to drive. But...they suck in drive thrus in the morning or at busy periods. So, basically, if you aren't a fatty eating mcdonalds every day, you will love it
  19. No, I meant pull the cam out and all bridges, keeping them in order, clean out any debris from the head, and inspect all. Parts. Just don't want you to get the rockers, and find when out when you pull the cam to put them on that the bridges are also broken. You're already waiting on parts. May as well make sure you have everything accounted for so that you can get it done in one go.
  20. I would recommend you disassemble. Ours had a bad bridge in addition to junk rockers, same situation
  21. The valves are vertical and flat to the piston. He didnt get it started, so the cranking rpm shouldnt have damaged them
  22. Use the 231 yoke and 2.5/2.8 ax5 do and be done. So, with all the rockers off, can you rotate the crank by hand and hear any hissing from intake or exhaust?
