  1. I wonder if someone is going to make that in real life now. I almost like it. "Street Cherokee"
  2. Another data point - I know my vent lines are setup correctly on my 91 (after having pinched them during a tank install) and I almost never hear any hiss whatsoever when opening the gas cap. In fact, it's hissed at me exactly once since fixing the vent lines, and that was a REALLY hot day and I think I had just pulled it out of the shade so the fuel was actively warming up at the time. When I had the vent lines pinched, it shot the gas cap at me once and hit me right in the face. Big difference.
  3. Well, that's a wrap on over 1500 miles in the MJ over the weekend. I made it to Pennsylvania and back with absolutely no trouble, hiccups, or even any worries. The truck was smooth and quiet the whole way - a real pleasure to drive on long trips. Even in the extreme heat, the temperature gauge never reached 210 even on a long hill. This reaffirms my complete confidence in my '91 for any kind of long trip. This was also my introduction to bringing my own vehicle to a car show. It was a great experience and I'll definitely be entering my truck in more shows in the future. This was an amazing weekend and I wish we could have things like this all of the time. It was great to meet everyone. @kryptronic was an incredible host and an all-around great guy who I happen to have A LOT in common with. @SublimeDom777 made us some absolutely delicious food as well, including some of the best cake I've had in my entire life. I look and feel kind of like a boiled lobster (for those who can't tell in the pics, I have very fair skin and burn very quickly in the sun even with sunscreen, but never get a tan), but it was totally worth it. I'd hop back in the truck and do it all again tomorrow. Misc. notable stuff: - My last-second A/C compressor swap and recharge held up beautifully. - I averaged a little over 19mpg throughout the entire trip, with one tank being over 20. - I had the only automatic Comanche in the CC group, and maybe the only one in the show. - @Pete M your bedliner is now within easy reach. I'll keep it safe in the meantime - I managed to stop myself from buying too many radios. In fact, I bought none. I did bring home a D44 and a power mirror switch though, so I think it evens out. Both will be featured on my build thread in the near to far future. - TWO BIG THUMBS UP for cruise control, added just in time for the show!
  4. It's very easy to pinch the rollover valve lines when reinstalling the tank. Combine that with a really hot day and an overfull tank... The pressure has to go somewhere. Normally that's the charcoal canister, but if you have a restriction in your evap system it can cause these symptoms. It shouldn't be a sudden onset though. Plugged vent lines consistently cause high fuel tank pressure, not just all of a sudden. Have you ever heard vapors escaping when opening the cap before?
  5. Sounds like the gas tank vent lines are either pinched or blocked. They originate at the top of the tank.
  6. There wasn't a Comanche class by itself. I didn't recognize the names. The 1st place in Cherokee/Comanche was that really clean white '96 XJ.

  8. More to come. Uploading pictures is slow from my phone.
  9. 450 miles out of 768 in the books!
  10. A/C has been restored and all is well. Proceeding as normal tomorrow morning. New compressor (reman junk) is quieter than the old one ever was. Not gonna say I was sold a dud, but I have a feeling it wasn't 100% right out of the box. Just glad I caught it before it did damage to my system.
  11. Ladies and gentlemen, we have A COMPLICATION! Heard a faint knocking noise from the A/C compressor when I was inspecting the truck today. Didn't like it. I have a compressor on order at 4:30 this afternoon. Already removed old compressor, found no metal shavings. Caught it in time. Going to hot-swap the compressors. Should be plenty of time to make it to the show.

One of these days, I'm going to piece together a vintage stereo system. Always kinda wanted to get into that stuff, but never had the time, space or funds. I'm especially interested in the weird stuff - not all that surprising if you know me at all. Not a record player, but still exactly my kind of weird. Start this one at 3:23 if it didn't work:
  13. I'm officially registered and good to go. Current plan is to leave approximately 4:00 Friday morning for a hopeful arrival at kryptronic's place in the late afternoon to early evening accounting for the time change. Might check in on here at the halfway point.
  14. '84-'94 XJ and MJ. A minor change came in '91 when the ignition cylinder changed to a Chrysler version that is held into the upper housing with a spring loaded latch rather than being held by a screw. Manual transmission columns will have a release lever next to the ignition cylinder. Automatic floor shift columns have a park lock mechanism that expects to be hooked up to a cable coming from the shifter mechanism. If you'd like intermittent wipers or tilt (and don't have them already), now's the perfect chance to upgrade. Make sure the break-away brackets about halfway down are not broken loose - this would indicate either rough handling or the vehicle having been in a severe accident. Make sure the donor vehicle has not been in a significant collision. These columns have a collapsible center shaft that will break in the event of a wreck.
  15. There should be a bracket on your speedometer cable to hold it to the driver side upper control arm bolt. It uses one of those push retainer things on the threads of the bolt to hold it.
  16. C'mon, hop in your truck and drive 1600 miles to meet us. We're worth it!
  17. Always so weird when Eric O works on something familiar to me. Every single one of his videos is pure gold.
  18. Hey @krustyballer16 when do you plan on leaving? One of the ways I can go takes me pretty close to you. Was hoping I could convoy up for at least part of the ride up there. I'm thinking leaving early Friday morning, but I'm flexible.
  19. I'm not that concerned about it on that truck, certainly not yet. Control arm bushings that aren't rotten would be a good enough start on that one
  20. Geez, guess my '89 won't ever see cruise control in its life then. Ouch.
  21. You don't have to, they unbolt fairly easily. They do leak though, so be ready for that if you decide to install them.
  22. - Stalk: junkyard, aftermarket, or genuine. It's essentially a GM part after all - I think as long as it has the connector I showed in the picture, it'll work. The only complication is fishing it down the column. The stalk I used had a large molded connector. I think the one with the wires soldered directly onto the connector would be much easier to install. - Actuator: junkyard or genuine NOS - May come with bracket, cable, and vacuum line. If not, you'll need to source these components. 1991 P/N for the actuator is 53007954. Make sure it has the bracket and cable that I show or it won't work. Worst case, you can swap those parts out but you'd rather not. I'll be swapping out my dingy old actuator for a new, shiny one at some point in the future. Make sure the actuator has no damage - it's a vacuum diaphragm in there and it won't work if there is damage. Even on non-cruise vehicles, the wiring and vacuum tee for the system is present. There is a cap on the vacuum tee where the line to the actuator connects. There will be a 4-pin flat connector in the vicinity of where the actuator lives. My truck was pre-wired for it so I assume all '91 and '92 MJs are. You will have to drill the three divots in the inner fender, but they are punched out so it's a foolproof process. Clarification for anyone who wanders in here: this process (and all of this discussion) is applicable for HIGH OUTPUT VEHICLES ONLY. Renix cruise control has a separate outboard computer and VSS connected to the speedometer cable as well as a bunch of other crap. I don't know how much of what's needed on Renix vehicles is provided, but I get the impression that it's nowhere near plug and play.
  23. Moved the '89 about 50 feet to the left of where it was. It started, ran, had oil pressure, and the clock even kept time! I have a lot of parts ready to go into it soon with the goal of making it reliable as a junk truck and suitable for speeds above 40 mph. A working cooling system, a suspension that has non-fossilized rubber, and a steering linkage that doesn't have play in it are notable features. Was going to put a new fuel level float in the '91, but it started raining after I'd finished my chores for the day. Maybe tomorrow? I need to do a few things to get it ready for the show next weekend.
