  1. Congrats! Well deserved winner. I can't think of one member who has saved as many MJs as you. Thank you for your wisdom and wealth of knowledge you share with all the members of this great club.
  2. Can I have that GLH Omni magnet?
  3. That is John Q's truck.
  4. Thanks for the info Tom. Would Hellcreek be able to make me a set of leaves that are 57" long, 2 1/2" wide, with a center pin location of 28", in MT MJ load rating? If not is re-drilling a leaf a safe idea? I will be using this truck to tow a 1800 pound trailer with a 2200 pound car on it.
  5. DO NOT USE GOO GONE! It will melt your tail lights. You need something safe for plastic. Goo Gone is not it.
  6. Thanks for the tip. Flipping the leaf packs will not work. If I did that would shift my axle back ten inches. I need to move it back only six inches. This will center the tire in the wheel well on a short bed box on a long bed frame. I could re-drill the leaf packs but I do not trust that one bit. I would be afraid the a main leaf would snap while I was towing. That would be bad for all parties involved!
  7. Does anyone know of a donor vehicle that has the correct length (57") leaf packs that are center pinned or 1" off center? They will also need to fit in the MJ spring mounts, have close to stock spring rate (or MT), close to stock arch, and be the same width as our springs. I am going to stretch my wheel base 6" so I can drop a SWB bed on my LWB truck when I do the cab stretch. This will keep me from hacking up the rear of the bed. I will only need to shorten the front. Saving me a lot of cutting and welding.
  8. I just got done checking over Betty and finding all the spot welds and joints I need to remove for the conversion. While I was out there I pulled the seal down on the top corners of the back window. I have 1/2" long cracks in the rear of the cab going from the top window corners into the roof. This is the 2nd MJ I have seen with these cracks. Check your trucks before it is too late and they get out of hand! EDIT: I don't know if it matters but both have been long beds.
  9. Did that Jeep come from a car lot in North GA? The "Jeep Store" maybe. If it did check everything on it. They are a VERY shady dealership. I think that is the truck my buddy at Fortech in Roswell GA put the YJ rear bumper on.
  10. Best of luck Mike. Please keep us posted on any changes or outcome. Bo
  11. How did I miss this for so long? Congrats CW, you have built a very nice rig!
  12. Now I know how Onyx would have looked if I had finished her. Good job. The truck looks amazing!
  13. The difference between the Viper and Vett diff is that they only use the center section. They both have IRS. they do not have to support the weight of a 4K Jeep off the tubes. Either way I have beat the living hell out of my WJ and it is still going strong. I have owned it since it was new in 04 and just now returned it to stock and bought the Ram for towing duties. Here is the WJ with the lift, there is also a vidieo at the bottom http://www.bds-suspension.com/pj/pj_rec ... hp?pri=822
  14. Thanks Johnny! I am looking forward to seeing you again my friend.
  15. The D44HD was used in almost every year ZJ with a V8 engine. If the Jeep had a V8 it "should" have the D44HD. The WJs use the same rearend but the lug pattern is different.
  16. I can't see the pics at work. Who is it?
  17. I have seen it. I do not condone his actions. I think he ruined two perfectly good vehicles. It is unsafe to cut a uni-body car in half and weld them back together. But, that is just my thinking. You will need take the rear portion of a front door and the front portion of a rear door and weld them together and re-skin them. That will give you the correct lines around the window frame and the bottom of the door can now be full instead of have a wheel arch cut in it. There are a few way you can go about the door issue. This is just one of them.
  18. I have a 04 WJ with a non HO 4.7, it is a great little motor. I have beat that thing like a rented mule and she has never given me a problem. I think it is as good or better than a 318 or 360. Not as thirsty either. It will all come down to which donor I get my hands on first. ZJ or WJ. I do like a 360 though... 19 Gallon TJ tank at the very rear of the bed or in the stock location. I am not cutting my truck in half. That is unsafe and illeagle as hell. I will be transplanting the XJ floor into my truck. I hope it all goes as planned. If not I can easily make my money back off the parts on the MJ and XJ donor. I am into for $500 for both at this point. Thanks for the kudos brother. Your truck is one of my favorites on here. I have even used it as a photo chop project idea for this build. You have the height and width I am shooting for on the Betty build.
  19. They are light. My wife and I have taken off and put on beds several times together. She is not a muscle woman either at 5'4" tall.
  20. The difference is that the city/state owns the property you hit on a back road. The chance of the ever finding out is slim to none. You are still in the wrong if you don't report the accident. But if my car is unhurt and there is no damage done to the area. I would leave the scene. I now will call and report ANY accident I am involved in. Reguardless where it happens. See my story below. Your son landed on PRIVATE property. The home owner has every right in the world to sue your son for ANY damages he caused to his property. Including scrapes on his driveway and torn up grass. He can't sue over a curb that got scraped. He does not own it. The city/state does. The state would have to sue for those repairs which they hardly ever do. Unless you flee the scene and the judge wants to be a prick. Back in 1992 I rolled a car on a backwoods road in PA. I also had a couple beers at about 6:00 and the crash happened at 2:00. I took out a bunch of brush and scraped the road. The car landed on it wheels and I drove off. A person down the road heard the wreck and called the cops. I was fined for fleeing the scene of an accident, careless and wreckless driving, and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle. On top of that $2500 worth of fines I also had to pay the state to have the scrapes in the road re-tarred, and replacement of 3 junior Mulberry bushes, 1 junior Blue Spruce, and 1 junior White Oak. All to the grand total of $3000 in fines and restitution. It can and does happen!
  21. I have a few engine choices in mind... a 318 or 360, a 4.7 V8, or a 4BT Cummins with a hand shaker behind it. The Cummins will be limited because of the smog issues out here in California. If I can find a 86 Diesel vin and title then I may go that route...
  22. Welcome to the club. Sorry about your Pap passing. You will not find a body lift for a Comanche. They are uni-body pick ups. You will need a suspension lift. Get those picks posted. I love me a long box MJ.
  23. He was just pointing out his opinion. I understand you are going to try and defend your son. You had to know from the start people were going to give their opinion on what they thought. As you know there are three sides to every story, Your's, their's, and the truth. I personally think your kid was driving careless and wreckless. I wonder if there may have been a little booze involved as well. He also fled the scene of the accident. Being out on a back woods country road is different than rolling a vehicle into someone's driveway in a residential area. If it were my kid he would be walking for a loooooong time after a stunt like that. The first thing I would have done is returned him to the scene and made him appologize to the homeowner, then waited for the police to give his side of the story. Him fleeing just made the whole situation look 100X worse.
  24. Just figured I would let you all know... I am doing this. I will be picking up a donor XJ in a couple weeks to start the build. There will not be a whole lot of pics until I get the cab is mostly finished and into primer. It should only take me a month or three to get the cab whipped into shape. I have something special planned for the roof. http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/Streetbeatcustoms/Ragtops-Sunroofs/Sliding-Ragtop-40-x-55-Inches/557562/ I am going to have a blast with this one! Wish us luck!
  25. Re-fueled my passion for building unique vehicles. I have also meet some really good people here. I am proud to be a member of this great board.
