$170 last summer for a Ford Expedition. This was done by a mobile guy, in my driveway. The dealer wanted $475 and two days at their shop.

It's pretty much been said: their job is to write tickets. My brother is a State Traffic Officer for the California Highway Patrol, and he rides a motorcycle. He likes to blow out a dozen or so when he comes on at noon so he can hit a restuarant or coffee spot and write the reports during the afternoon traffic. Also, motor officers are often called on to work concentrated enforcement details in response to complaints from the public, or from collision statistics. If you get caught in one of these, save you breath.

Valve Cover Gasket Replacement
Tracker replied to UNL1MTD's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Like KYMJ said, but my favorite goop is Three Bond, Liquid Gasket #1104. You get it mainly at motorcycle shops. Make sure your vacuum system is working too. -
I'm not familiar with the 8.8 brake cables. For this bracket to work they would have to be like the MJ's- the expando push in the hole snap clip thing, for lack of the proper term.
-
Rocky Road Outfitters makes sway bar drop brackets and a E-brake extension kit. They sent me two of the E-brake brackets by mistake and I'd part with the extra one for postage.

It's pretty safe to say that 100% of the hunters, 75% of the fishermen, and 50% of the general public that ventures into my beat are armed. But, so am I

I gotta say- I've never had a boring job. I've had jobs that suck and jobs that didn't pay but I never let myself take a boring one. When I was in my late 20's I decided to get into something I could stick with, make some money, and have a good time doing it. It took a while but it was worth it. This is me in my work clothes next to my current work truck. (Cal Fish and Game) Don't get me wrong- it's a law enforcement job with all the bad stuff that might come with the duty. But it's different in many ways too. How many jobs give you an assortment of guns and other toys, and pay you to go wheelin'? My folks like to see me on the news with my tranquilizer gun, chasing some bear or mountain lion that wandered into town. The job description calls that "Other duties as required".

http://www.jwjeep.com/ J and W Auto Wrecking 8626 Antelope No Rd. Antelope Ca. 95843 1-800-924-9732 I don't know if these are the guys you're looking for but they are in Sac County and their add says "10 acres of Jeeps". Probably not too far off the 80 or the 50 for you.

I will hit 50 this fall. This will let me enter the desert M/C races in the senior class if I want to. Youth and fitness will never be a match for the wisdom and trechery that comes with age. :brows:
-
Dang- You guys are making me feel like grandpa: I'll be 50 this year. I must be doing something right though. I just did 3 days on 2 wheels in Death Valley and nothing hurts. It must be the fresh air and sunshine out here.

One last thought from my recent experience: Our MJ that got the offset ball joints was lowered back down to stock and the camber went \-/, about the same amount that it was off the other way just after the lift. I know, it doesn't make sense to me either. But I couldn't argue with a guy who made it work by turning the adjustable upper BJ's back to 0.
-
Another thing that might be going on: With your truck now lifted up you can see the camber problem whereas before the tops of the tires were covered and it wasn't as obvious.
-
This exact same thing happened with both MJ's I have lifted. My front-end guy explained some of it to me during the alignment on the second one. It has to do with the rotation of the axle housing that happens when the body is raised - and nothing is done to correct the control arm geometry. One truck was corrected with just a good thorough alignment, one needed offset upper ball joints. Both trucks were done on the same new alignment rack by the same guy.

Old truck of mine was impounded...read this and vote

You don't have any warrants do you? :D The cops tell people all kinds of stories (like, they won the lottery) to get them to show up somewhere with ID. -

Tracker replied to offroader461's topic in The Pub
My vote is in the minority, probably because I have been involved with problems associated with "sold" vehicles. You have no idea what your truck may have been involved in while others had it. People driving a vehicle that can't be traced back to them tend to do things....... -
If you do any research on low specific gravity beverages, or can't decide which one to bring home for further sampling, here's an unbelievable one: "Siete Leguas". It's dangerous though because it goes down like ice tea. Best use of a catus I've ever found. :D

ZJ LCA's will help. Someone has posted pics recently.

No, actually a '99 1500 std cab, short bed, 4WD, 5.9L. 3.92's w/LSD. 137K miles and still runs and climbs like a raped ape. Most of the FS LEO's out here have Expeditions and don't know where the 4WD button is. I wouldn't be surprised if there really is a policy and procedures manual that makes the recomendations mentioned for snake attack. We have some that are just as brilliant, IMHO.
-
I work for Cal. Fish and Game and often have to deal with snakes. We get calls from the PD's when they do a dope bust and need help. I guess dope and deadly pets go together. We have an extra nasty rattler out here called the Mojave, or the Mojave Green. Their venom is a neurotoxin (like a cobra) and a hemotoxin. I live in the area where the two rattlesnake ranges overlap so we have to know how to identify the two in case we're bit. I wear leather gaiters when I work (or wheel) at night and the critters are crawlin'. I have a lot of snake stories but I probably shouldn't share them.

Cold air intake/ duel exhaust
Tracker replied to led_balloon's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It used to popular with the low riders to make split 6 exhaust. It does sound very cool if it's done right. You have to configure the split with consecutive firing cylinders in mind to get that sound, so I'm told. -
I've done this kit twice because the first truck was wrecked. Short answer: I like. More detail: see the current thread in The Pub about lifts.

>Rocky Road Outfitters >5" >Had it on 2 MJ's, (1st one got crashed) for a total of 5 months >rides and flexes great. Likes: Go SOA without welding and OME springs are great. Good workmanship and finish, good customer support. Dislikes: Specific to D35 only, last I heard.
-
My $.02: Ditch it. It's too easy for someone to steal the whole thing which would leave you with no lights, and body work to do on you rain gutters. Two of those lights might look good on that cool bumper when the winch gets installed. Then you'd have two more for the roll bar that you know you want.
-
I guess I'll need to know what it would cost to ship it to 91390 and if it will work in our stock '87 d35 with 4.11's.

I'd be interested in the locker if it's around after the wheeling and dealing. :D
