http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6762 The 2.5 needs a rebuild so I sold the trailer to a guy on NAXJA. Last I heard he had rims to match his waggy and he was ordering the woodgrain vinyl to complete the look.

Here's a roll bar from that era S-10 installed in a '87swb MJ. I think the S-10 is a little narrower as we had to tweak the bar outward and still make some steel wedges for the inner wheel well bolts. It could stand to be about 1.5 - 2'' taller too. Overall though, not a bad fit.

Pre- 1976 = No emission inspection in Cal. If it's complete and there are no surprises it will sell.

gauge cluster question
Tracker replied to undercoverwalrus's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It is sounding from the experiences like the tach signal is obtained from only one cylinder, not all cylinders per cycle. -
Underbed spare carrier.
Tracker replied to joshmillslane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had the same problem and fashioned a carrier to match the one on my '70 Chevy truck. It was very simple to make and it might have been simpler to go to a JY and wander around for a while. I do a lot of driving in my job and can't help but notice all the spare tires off the sides of the freeways. It must be common for those cables to give up after about 20 years. -
As I read the stories I may see the words but in my mind, another scene is playing. I may have to share some experiences and observations from the other side of the ticket book...... :thwak:

Crazy Talk / Chiliwack 1974 (The year I was in 11th grade) As a former jukebox mechanic I was really bummed when a game I could always win, hands down, no competition, was destroyed by Google. One of my favorites was, "What's the real name of the song we all know as the theme from MASH"? Back to the start of the thread: A few hours ago I was "headed for Bear on I One-O 'bout a mile outta Shakey Town"...

Semi thread-jack:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHYXrqoS08o&feature=related  Not much different than the Bat-Man thing. Just a little zippier with some technology and burning petroleum.

I like the guys (also German, I think) that have the stubby little foam wings with small jets on them. Both groups remind me of something Wile E. Coyote would do. :clapping:

I know way too much to drive something like that now. But I'd love to put that motor in a nice sandrail and get air off the top of Oldsmobile Hill at Glamis.

It looks as if his gray-cell mixture is a little lean. These guys make wheeling a spectator sport though.

Then you would have loved my first car. I had a situation no 16 year-old should have: My neighbor worked at Sig Erson Cams and buily sprint car motors for fun. I'm lucky to have survived owning a 13 second, 4000 pound car with drum brakes. That's a '72 El Camino 12 bolt with 4.56's and a lincoln locker you're looking at.

Drag link inter-changability ?
Tracker replied to Tracker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A little extra work is no big deal. That's what I get for being so cheap and not replacing the whole thing in the first place. The new set-up is much beefier. Even the adjustment sleeve and clamps are like mongo-thick compared to the stock piece. We're glad we did it. I have to say thanks  to those who posted the DIY wheel alignment procedures in past threads. I've done it twice now; once out in the desert to be able to drive home and once after the repair last night in the driveway. It works. -
Drag link inter-changability ?
Tracker replied to Tracker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It turns out NO; not without buying some more parts. The ad should read '91 - 01 Cherokees. (And probably '91 and '92 Comanches)The threads are 22mm on the new part as opposed to 20mm on the OEM piece. So, I bought a newer model adjusting sleeve and left-hand thread TRE and we're in business with a little upgrade. I still can't believe how bad that thing bent from hitting a mud hole. -
If more Americans spoke up, acted out, or in some way let others know how they really felt, (and they were willing to do something about it) we wouldn't have much of this problem. Parents knows that a child will test them until boundaries and limits are set. Pet owners know that their animal(s) will take food off the table and piss on the rug until they are given a reason not to. A flag is the strongest figure of national symbolism that there is. To me, displaying one national flag over another, is kind of like one country sticking their middle fingers up at the other country. Let's take a good look at the results of this incident: One man stood up for what he believed, and looked the world in the eye as he did so. As a result, the other man hid his face and slipped out of view into the darkness. Egads. This is starting to sound like a George Bush endorsement.

Drag link inter-changability ?
Tracker replied to Tracker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks guys. The part is new on ebay for about $40. The JY wants the same so I'll eat the shipping and not get dirty. -
Would a drag link advertised to fit "'91-'01 2&4WD Comanches" work on a '87 4WD MJ? I couldn't see asking the ebay seller this question, given his display of Jeep knowledge.

I'm usually the one behind the camera so my photos were mostly work shots. Here's one that kind of explains my screen name. When a lion or bear finds itself in a place where it shouldn't be I get called. It's not my main duty just "other duties as required". (Note: No lions were harmed in the making of this picture. He woke up with a hangover and a numbered earring) When I have the time I explore old mines and hunt for meteorites in the desert.8) Here's my son last weekend. He goes by "MJ'87" on this board. The Mojave Desert isn't known for its mud holes but a broken water main outside of town provided a few yucks. This hole claimed quite a few victims over the holiday weekend. He starts most outings on 4 wheels, goes to two wheels, then ends up on one wheel. We do the sanctioned desert grand prix thing. The MJ trailer gets used for firewood going out, and anything bleeding, stinky, or muddy coming home.

Garmin has been pretty good for me. I'm not up on the latest model specs and such but I can say the company has great tech and customer support. To keep current with retail establisments and such you have to get the computer attachment and do the free updates once or twice a year. This gives you the free software upgrades too. My 10 year old Etrex is still my favorite for foot hiking. The external antenna is a must for driving. It eliminates the suction cup stuff and gives maximum satellites almost anywhere you go. A friend went camping with me this weekend and brought his new Garmin hand-held to test. This thing did a lot of neat stuff that my relics sure wouldn't do. I didn't get the model # but it wasn't too big and it still had the "Street Pilot" software in it. He said it was about 5 bills though.

Well, if it's newer than '75 I think I'll pass. That's the cutoff year for emission testing and vehicles from '76 to the first TBI's are nearly impossible to get smogged without major work. If anyone is interested or has a friend in SoCal, the area code for the phone # on the window is 661. The vehicle is sitting on Avenue "A", between 110th and 90th Streets West; just a little west of the city of Rosamond.
-
I saw this thing sitting on the side of the road on the way to the desert this weekend. I didn't have time to check it out but I slowed down and took a pic. No answer at the phone #- Anyone know about year it might be?; possible axles and motor? I'm tempted.

Light primer, so the greasy fingerprints show up. The whitewall tires set it all off. There's a couple of these guys down the street from me. One of them drives a '40-something Dodge P/U with a 413, complete with the "Solid Ram Induction" intake. It's bone stock but it will incenerate the tires on command.

New Comanche owner looking for info
Tracker replied to Amos manche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you lurk and search on this forum you can learn a lot. As far as rare, I guess it would depend on where you are. In California, the most popular reason for owning a Comanche is because you can't afford a Toyota. There's a lot of them and they are cheap when compared to other small trucks. The weird part is nobody seems to do anything but use them for transportation or light work. They don't know what they're missing. In the lands of salt and rust, clean ones might be worth more. In any case, they're cool trucks. Welcome! -
I can't help but think that an axle's condition might have something to do with what it will or will not take. We seem to have quite a variety of experiences out there. I wonder how a fresh D35, set up right and driven intelligently would do? :hmm: Don't get me wrong. We'll snag a 44, and gear it and lock it as soon as we can afford it. But in the meantime, this low wear, tight feeling 35 is hanging in there without being babied.
