  1. X10 My game warden truck doesn't leave the driveway without a working Hi-Lift jack. Since the jack is in the weather all the time I have to keep the pins clean and lubed. Motorcycle chain wax works good- then I get a couple drops of oil from the dipstick when I have to use it. I have yet to need to get on the radio and let the world know I'm stuck. :D
  2. Thanks. I'd say that's it alright, judging by the pics on one of those links. I don't think I've ever seen one, whole at least. It doesn't bother me that it's a POS and all; seeing that it was a Ford.
  3. Thanx. If you followed the thread you'll see I sold it to a guy on NAXJA. He has a lifted Waggy and he's doing the trailer to match it. He posted pics when he got the matching rims and 33's on a couple months ago. It's looking good. Next step will be the color and the wood-grain vinyl.
  4. I did one upside-down but crawled inside and put 3 C-clamps on each side. It worked real good. The straps wanted to distort the sides when they were tight enough to feel confident about.
  5. Another forum, unrelated to vehicles, had these posted. Was this made by Jeep or is it some foreign Jeep-like knockoff military thing? :dunno:
  6. Of all places, California actually has a good process for such snafu's. You take what you have to the DMV and tell the nice lady at the counter what's going on. She will scowl at you, ask a question or two, and say, "You'll have to fill this out. It's called a Statement of Facts". It's a form that essentially becomes a signed, written version of the story you told her. You may have to get a VIN# verification too. Then you pay the fees, go home, and wait to find out what the PO didn't tell you about. The reason the PO never put it in his name may surface during the ensuing title history search. If there's no problems you get your papers within 60 days. Of course, you may be in for a surprise too.
  7. Just a thought: Is your cat welded on right-side up? Most of them have a small heat shield that blocks direct radiation from the cat to the floorboard when it's on right. You could probably fab a simple sheet metal heat shield and pop rivet it to the underside of the floor if everything is correct and you are still getting too hot. I had to do that on a Chevy truck once. I tucked the exhaust up tight for ground clearance and got a passenger foot-warmer in the process.
  8. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away...... No, actually it was in Long Beach, California in the '70's, there were a couple shops that made welded-up stroker cranks for several different kinds of racing motors. In this process they actually welded multiple layers of passes on the rod journals of the crank, then ground new journal surfaces at a different stroke length. Then, different length rods and / or pistons were used to get the deck height back. It worked on small block Chevys and Fords- quite well I might add. :brows: This would be incredibly expensive to have a shop do as a one shot deal- Especially when it came to the rest of the parts needed to make it all work. But- If the 2.5 is or was ever used in any kind of racing, the stuff may be out there for a reasonable price. The first step would be to find a class of racing that used the 2.5. Then poke around and see if strokers were ever used and / or practical on that motor.

I too was wondering. I work with a guy named Chris Long and we call him "Longshot", (but for reasons unrelated to marksmanship). Your story was better for me, being an archer myself.

Tracker? Reading sign has been kind of a life-long interest and self study subject of mine for as long as I can remember. It's also something I use in my job as a game warden. When I'm working I have to use these skills on animals, people, and vehicles. I use the same name and avatar on forums of several different subjects. It seems to have kind of an off-road flavor to it no matter what the subject.
  11. My next door neighbor reassured me that he truly is a moron a couple days ago. He asked me, "What years did Jeep make the matching trailer for these trucks"? I don't know how he didn't equate a couple months of grinding and welding with the MJ trailer that emerged when the noise stopped. Then he said he was thinking of getting a Comanche for his son but he's been down at the dealer looking at new ones. I didn't say anything. The whole conversation started as a compliment to my son's MJ that parks by his house.
  12. Wow. Who'da thunk it? A guy gets in trouble for loaning an illegally modified assault rifle, (as he should) and within a couple pages the Comanche Club debates world politics. Sorry. Maybe machine guns are evil? One sure lit up this group. As long as I'm typing as opposed to my normal lurking I have to comment further: Same scenario, Santa Clarita California a couple years ago- Only they didn't send the swat team at this search warrant. My friend Jake Kuredjian got the top of his head blown off by a book keeper with no indication that there would be trouble. The guy just calmly decided that he wasn't going to prison and went to the second story window with a scoped rifle. Jake was crouched behind his patrol car, probably wondering how long the contact team was going to politely keep asking the guy to open the front door. :dunno: Guys- Do yourselves a favor: Try not to believe much of what you see on the news and be real careful when it comes to forming opinions of world events if you are basing these opinions on anything other than direct personal knowledge. The news is a business, not a social service that answers to a higher authority. Truth and reporting accuracy mean very little compared to selling The Product. Once you have seen yourself on TV and listened to how wacked the narrative comes across you will never look at the news the same.
  13. My stock photo program is MS Photo Editor. It's nothing special as it was what came with Windows 2000. All I do is open any photo with it, click the pull-down menu under "Image", then click on re-size. Then I can chose the exact size, by pixels, that I want the photo to be. I think avatars are 150 by 100. I'm guessing that each operating system is different though.
  14. Everyone knows that there is always two sides to every story. It might be interesting to see what the Government's side is, but we're not likely to hear it. Having done cases involving fully automatic weapons I can guarantee you that the gun itself has to be what a conviction is based on; not a second-hand account of a one-time range malfunction. The multi-shot burst has to be repeatable on demand- period.

Close to one of the places I go to play- Panamint Springs Resort, the edge of Death Valley: Oh yeah- This was in April of '07. I'll see what it is in a few weeks when I go back.

    stupid idea

It might look good if you tiled the roof and put some wrought iron here and there for trim. :D
  17. The switch on the t-case is next to the speedo cable hook-up. Be careful if you touch or pull on those lines near the switch as they can be very hard and brittle. My son's had a couple of breaks which we fixed by splicing with silicone type aquarium tubing. I've seen the switch on the self-help rack at several auto parts stores and they are fairly cheap. Look close at them if you get one because they can have three or four ports.

I wonder what they caught this one on? I couldn't help but notice the size of the mono on the rig the guy in the pic is holding.

    tamaskan dog

Minor thread-jack: I found a nice Blue Tick with a telemetry collar today while I was working. He was tied to a rusted matress frame about midway between Bumphuc and Nowhere, in the Mojave Desert. I'm thinking his owner wasn't coming back for him. He was a cool dog. The Animal Control guy that I called and guided in to pick him up wants to keep him. I'd like to catch someone abandoning a dog like that sometime. :thwak:
  22. Thanx- Those are cool lines. I'm going to cut and paste them for later use. I just went to Glock Armorer's Training yesterday and the instructor left us with his favorite saying at the end of the class: Before a person is allowed to vote they should be able to meet two of these three qualifications: 1.)They should have had to run or fight for their very life at some time. 2.) They should understand that food doesn't come from a store. 3.) They should accept that the police are not responsible for their safety. I'd bet that this guy voted for Reagan, in the day. :USAflag:
  23. In Ca. it's 1975 and below that get to skip smog tests. The bummer is that there is no longer a limit on how much you have to spend to make it pass. Anything Jeep between 1976 and TBI is doomed. It make for a good supply of truggy and trailer queen donors though. This may sound silly to some of you but if you put on a set of street tires inflated as high as you dare your motor will spin that dyno a lot easier. It wouldn't be enough for your problem but it can make the difference when you are right on the line. (I know a good smog man)
  24. The sleeper effect would be better if the earth didn't shake when his motor starts. Look at how much the UniBody tweaks (pass. side down) as he's coming out of the hole. How much you wann'a bet the tool box is for sandbags?
  25. When Ebay first started, I, like most others thought, "What a great idea. It's like swap meets used to be and you do it from home." It was mostly regular people selling their stuff. The sellers knew a little about what they were selling and seemed to feel a little responsibility toward make a proper sale. At the time I was looking for parts for an old motorcycle and ebay was great. I could enter my keywords, get about 10 - 20 hits and know real quick whether or not there was anything of interest to me. Not any more. Those same keywords will produce about 200 - 275 hits. Most of it is generic junk with my keywords spammed in. The rest is pure crap that should have stayed in the JY. I may still get a few hits from real sellers but not many. Ironically, this is the way swap meets have gone in the last few years too: Junk and commercial crap, with not much in between. At least at a swap meet (flea market?) you can see what you are buying and are usually within arm's reach of the sellers throat- and he knows this. :thwak:
