So I finally got back to this today. Firing order is good. All sensors check out. No vacuum leaks. What I found late this afternoon was a funny looking spray pattern through the right injector. I unplug it and the backfire instantly goes away. I plug it in and it comes back. It idles just fine on one injector but if you rev it then it’ll give a code 44... oxygen sensor senses lean condition. What it won’t do it run on just the right injector. I think the left is good... the right has issues. Pictures to keep people interested.

Progress is slow going but things are still happening. Kind of frustrating only having the gumption to work on it on the weekends only to have something else going on just about every weekend lately. Sheeting the building is done and I started the framing of the car port today. Everything involved with that is heavy.

You should be okay WAY down there in Wisconsin, Brent. Those dangerous Canadians have a lot of ground to cover before they’re knocking on your door.

I’d wait until you get out here. I brought a whole fleet of vehicles out here when I moved to CO three years ago. Two of which are still sitting in storage, one got stripped and scrapped, another got sold. There’s plenty of great Jeeps out here! I’d wait for a nice XJ if you’ve got family to tote around.

Finally found just the right balance of vintage and scrappy looking for a tach. Made a nice little mount to finish it off. We’ll see how long it takes me to wire it.

This is where I was at with my 318 swap when I did it. I didn’t want to cut my hood, do a mix and match to get an accessory setup that’d fit, or go with an aftermarket oil pan to get things lower in the frame. A 318 fits great! I had an AMC 360 on a stand that I could eye up at the same time. It came out of a J truck and the height/width was similar to my Magnum 318. I know one of those “wise old guys” that says he swapped a 360 into an ‘86 MJ at one time too. I also dig the nostalgic factor behind the swap. Besides... going with a 360 opens the door for so many future options! 390?... 401?!

I’m definitely out. Just doesn’t work out for me this time around.

I put a Magnum 318 in my old ‘86 MJ. It was a little more than adequate for putting it down the road. The automatic behind it kinda killed some of the fun factor though. Always thought an AMC 360 would’ve been the real ticket. Left stock(ish) I don’t see why an AX15 wouldn’t last and you could use a cheap-o Howell style fuel injection to efficiently run it.

Looks great(ish), Brent! For the longest time I wanted a 2.5 MJ for a daily driver/beater and I got a little nostalgic when I saw this one for sale. I really dig it. Glad it’s going to a good home!

Looks like the pinnacle “hold my beer and watch this” kind of rig. Sounds like a good list of parts though.

Oh! I forgot about a diff cover guard I had too. Threw that on today. Changed the oil too.

Right? Might be time for a name change.

My wife says I’ve been beating myself up working seven days a week between work and building my shop so... Nope... I didn’t paint it. The little CJ got a Comet wash today. Ever heard of it?... it’s easy if you’ve got the time. I started with the tailgate because it’s easy to pull off and I didn’t know how much i wanted to commit to this. ... so I figured “why not?”. Then I ran out of Comet. This turned to another run to the grocery store (they had it on sale for $.89 a can!) so it meant another run over there. There’s a parts store that shares a parking lot so then the decision was made to up the quality a bit. “How cheap can I have a presentable Jeep?”... about $20 and six hours. Yup... NuFinish... that crap from those old commercials. It was poured on liberally to get some moisture back into the single stage paint. Sure made a bunch more badly done bodywork just jump out! Not to mention the rust!! Overall I’m super happy with the results! Was it the “right” way to clean it up?... nope. Was it easy?... yup. I’d never do this with a vehicle with decent paint but this was way beyond torched. I’d do it again in a heartbeat with another car with major sunburn like this. ... now about that top.

Nope... lifted them all up by hand. I’ve got scaffolding on site that we just set them on the top plate and then set them. I wouldn’t go as far as easy, but it wasn’t too bad.

I’ve got one from a salvage yard from a while back that matches the patina of my CJ. Really like those badges... adds a touch of class to an older Jeep.
