How’s the condition of the tent after being wrapped up for so long? Mine hasn’t been open in four years now and I have some concerns.

Been following these guys for a long while now. They always have the latest and greatest in gear and toys! Admittedly some of their videos are a little corny but the content is there. Best video series of their in my opinion is their first Yukon trip. Kind of a dream of mine as well!
  4. The carport is nearly done. It’ll need more bracing but I’m ready for an inspection and I’d like to hear it straight from the horses mouth as far as exactly what they want to see. ... and then it started raining. Roof panels are on their way for the carport. Really need to wrap up the rest of the siding next.

Truth. Things sneak up on all of us eventually. Glad I never manual swapped my Eliminator! Rowing gears is fun but age and life seems to always come out ahead when trying to figure “long term” vehicles.

Curious what the restroom situation was like. I understand it’s a nosey series of questions, but I also think it’s something most don’t think about when tracking out where they haven’t been. Easy to pop up porto-tent? Everyone dig their own hole? Community latrine? Bio bags in a bucket?
  7. Not really and there probably won’t ever be. I’m not interested in paving down the hill, nor do I want to rake gravel back up each year. See, I’ve been renting a field trimmer every other year now to knock over the yard to let it all compost on itself and build up some top soil. Should it come the day that I’ve got a beautiful yard I think I’ll just live with a couple goat paths where tires line up. This shed isn’t intended for parking in and driving up and down each day. I’d like to make a carport up by the house for her car to park under, and I’m sure my CJ will remain happy enough parked under its tree.
  8. Does anyone know the weight of four 9.5’ rough cut 6x12s? ... whatever the equivalent of three Advil PMs is. The height at the front of the carport obviously caught up to me with changing the direction of the pitch. Keep in mind that it’s only a 2.5/12. Still a big difference from front to back. The ceiling height will work out great for putting my air tanks at the rear and I’ll still have room for a full size truck backed in, a decent size car trailer, or whatever else might come along. No real plans for what might live there long term.
  9. I think the offer is still there... five years later.

Confirmed. I really like the idea of this. When I go out I like to keep things as simple as possible as far as power usage goes. I’ve never carried an air compressor but rather a small CO2 tank. The regulator I usually have on it tops out at 120# which is awesome for running air tools on the trail or a nailer around the house for a quick job. That same regulator could be set all the way down to 10-15# for running a shower. No power. No fuss. Noted for potential future build.

There’s a couple MJ specific racks on the market right now. Otherwise I’ve found that others are using racks intended for Tacomas. There’s always the tape measure approach too... just use what works or make your own. Lately I’ve been dreaming of finding another factory short bed sport bar and fitting it backwards at the rear of my Eliminator to hang a RTT between. Is that greedy? Having two factory sport bars mounted in the same truck?

Rare chance today that I was sitting in traffic. I look over at this JK next to me and sure enough... ... had one on the other side too.

^ Interesting water tank. I would imagine using black ABS pipe would act as a water heater. Perhaps an “H” or a grid of black fittings could make for a decent amount of water to shower off after a day on the trail. Good ideas, folks. Keep them coming.

Interchangeability! That’s what I’ve got in mind! I’d definitely consider a rack on the topper for both gear but also as an easy lifting location to get the topper off and on. Picture an engine hoist at the rear of the trailer lifting the topper as you drive forward. Getting the topper out of the way obviously makes for a better utility trailer.

What I’ve got in my head for an overland rig is pretty much camping where others would have a difficult time getting to. I’ve got a tent for longer stays/base camp but I’m leaning towards a RTT for the ease of getting away for a weekend trip. There’s plenty of trails around me within a couple hours drive that one could drive to after work on a Friday, set up camp, and hunker down for a quiet weekend alone. Excellent point though, Pete! Something else to consider with a trailer as a stand alone base camp is leveling jacks at the rear. What about water storage? Are you thinking of setting your trainer up as a permanent camping rig?
  16. Agreed. Leave the front flares alone. Tough to find an aftermarket bumper that doesn’t require cutting the fenders but honestly how many of us really NEED a heavy winch bumper? Great starting point with this truck. Looks like a real winner with a little work.

I know this topic has been gone over in the past but I feel like we could start fresh with all the products and technologies available in the aftermarket right now. So? Who’s getting out there and enjoying their Comanche out in the wild and what’s your setup? Here’s a build I recently found that’s WAY over the top. I love it!... but it’s more than I’d ever build for myself. https://www.overlandkitted.com/four-wheel-drive/2020/2/16/this-diy-jeep-camper-is-a-must-see?format=amp Let’s talk gear, storage, fuel and water reserves, tents/toppers, along with whatever else you’re running or wanting. Don’t have your truck all decked out but have a shopping wish list? Cool! Post that up too. Here’s my rig to start: ... yup... it’s an ancient build thread and admittedly the Comansion has only been used once. Gear: • Wildernest topper • Twin size bed • Full length storage down each side of the bed • Fully carpeted interior • Kitchen “toolbox” with interior storage and counter space • 10(?) gallon water tank • Spare tire Right now it’s sitting in storage with my Eliminator and it’s full of parts. Years ago when I got the whole setup built and dialed in I had dreams of taking it to places like Colorado and exploring around with it in tow. Now I live in Colorado in a tiny house and all I can think about is how big and heavy it is come the day I actually have the time to go out camping again! I’d like to downsize. Probably a rooftop tent mounted on a rack would be ideal for me. I’d have the same storage space (for the most part) in my truck as this without hailing a trailer. Stay tuned come the day it no doubt ends up in the For Sale section again. Anyhow... what’s the rest of CC doing for their overland/camping rigs?
  18. Definitely got the gears turning for the next step in this truck’s evolution.
  19. Proof of life! IMG_0109.MOV Since I’m close to the exterior construction being complete on my new shop I can’t help but get excited to bring home my Comanche. Today it got a new battery and just a good once over. I’m yet to have any evidence of mice over the past four years and for that I’m relieved. Super smelly Bounce dryer sheets are the real hero here. Can’t say I’m all too impressed with the long term protection on the car cover. The truck has a film of dust that covers everything. Never thought it would’ve been put through this kind of test though. As for everything in the bed, that whole stock has dwindled over its time in storage. That used to be my inventory of good stuff but I couldn’t help but sell things off when others needed them more than I, or when I’d want to partake in a real legend of a truck. Guys like Don Hornbrook had parts I had that were straight out of my “hens teeth” stash. In the other hand it was a real joy to look over things and a see a beat up 10 slot grill once handed to me by the gentleman Jim Oshel. My little Eliminator isn’t the only thing I miss when I have the opportunity to pull off the dusty cover. Soon.
  20. It’s not like I was asked to make this change by anyone. I did make a point to talk with the city about it though. They seemed overjoyed that I’m trying to continue to be proactive about everything. This decision was more so based on keeping the city on my side.
  21. Only a few hours again to work this weekend. Over the past couple weeks I’ve been working with my brother (the original architect/drafter for the shed) to change the carport. Of course I can’t just make that kind of decision on my own so I needed to get the regional building department involved to change the print attached to the permit. In times like these, this isn’t all that easy as their office has been shut down for months now. Emails were past, countless phone calls were made, and in the spirit of government run around I was charged my $50 to splice the print PLUS the $3.50 “convenience charge” over the phone... because I had a choice right now? See, my neighbor to the south doesn’t like me all too much due to this whole project. Haven’t ever met face to face before but the general consensus heard from the rest of the neighborhood is that these people absolutely hate me. In the early stages of construction there was a dusting of dirt along the backside of his fence, the city got involved, and I built the wood retaining wall along the fence line. Next they didn’t care for the size or location of the shed, the city got involved, and they were given all of the public information concerning my project and that I was abiding to the city and county building restrictions. Then a couple weeks ago they complained about deer getting in their yard by jumping the fence from said retaining wall, the city once again got involved, they were reminded again that I was in compliance and that Colorado is a free range state after all. I was actually waiting for that complaint since I noticed they installed a trail camera pointing at my yard. I’m pretty sure it comes down to it that they’re an older couple who have nothing better to do and they don’t like change. Well?... maybe they should’ve bought the property before I did. Anyhow, rant over. The carport change is due to trying to avoid a potential future problem of a single snowflake landing on their fence or property. I decided to change the pitch from north/south to east/west. It’s pretty much the same material just laid out differently than originally planned. So anyways, I started on that today and then got rained out. The new pitch will be a 2.5/12 making the rear of the carport fairly low at just about 5’ at the bottom of the 6x12 horizontal beam. My plan all along has been to set my reserve air tanks from my compressor outside. They’ll live back there and I’ll sheet that back wall to keep the weather off them. More progress next weekend? Nope. I already know I won’t have time.

    Jeep vs Bronco

Wow. https://www.motortrend.com/cars/ford/bronco/2021/2021-ford-bronco-first-look/ I’d say Ford definitely did their homework in terms of what makes the Wrangler such a hit. The seemingly easy ways to make it your own, the option packages, and the coil over suspension paving the way for huge aftermarket upgrades really shows why Ford took the time they did to release the new Bronco. That “Sasquatch Package” that can be added to any trim level that includes 35s and a rear locker?... sweet! If I were to go out and decide between this and the Wrangler, it’d be a no brainer. Jeep has been doing the same routine for years because it works for them and it’s great! The technology, safety, and availability in the aftermarket continues to expand but their core of the Wrangler remains the same. I say it’s about time there’s a modern removable top 4x4 on the to shake things up! Given a big bag of money, I’d be a Bronco driver.
