There is always 30x9.50 Km2s. you don't HAVE to go 31x10.50s. do 2 inch and 30x9.50s. :) You can also have the diesel shop do some tweaks on that setup. I'm sure another 40 hp could be pulled out of it. Diesels love more boost ya know. Just need a diesel guru who knows whats up. 5 more psi and adjust injection timing and look out!

Project Sargent Slaughter
mountainman replied to 88SGTSlaughter's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
damn... these things DO rust pretty bad. reminds me of all the stuff i work on. But this stuff is twice the age of these jeeps. Thats pretty crazy for sure. I guess ill look at my floor one day. I live in vegas, so... doubt theres even a spec of rust. nothing here rusts. Its WAY too dry. -
91 Comanche long bed, metric ton
mountainman replied to johnj92131's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Labor is less in Tj because they couldnt fix a sandwich if they wanted to. Knowing how bad @$$ our 4.0 already is... id just put one of them in there. Already made for it, making it easier to put in and wire up. -
NICE! glad its getting 4wd. I can't imagine a jeep without 4wd. Welcome to the comanche club.

Thanks bulli. I was just going off that list from on here, "junkyard upgrades". Guess it needs to be updated even more as to what parts are Xj specific. Or just taken down altogether and edited to remove the Xj stuff. I ordered some actual spacers and shackels to get me by for now. :)

For zinc additives.. run http://www.zddplus.com/ Also http://www.cam-shield.com/ I deal with this specifically on all my aircooled engine builds and any old flat tappet engine i build. Lots of mustang stuff. I hadnt even thought of it for the jeep folks. (just dippin my toes in the water with jeep stuff) I have spoken with many oil companies specifically about this issue and so i can shed some light on the subject. SOLID info too, not bull$#!& as i build a lot of engines and have a perfect rep for some of the fastest and reliable stuff out there. As of late yes they are pulling the zinc out of the oils. Ok do you need to be worried about losing a cam on your high mileage engine do to lowered levels of zinc?..... NO. once the cam and lifters have work hardened they are good to go and can withstand nearly no zinc and still stay alive. The most critical time is when the new parts are "breaking in" with each other and the cam and lifters are work hardening each other. Zinc is extra critical at this time. It would even be good to use some zinc additive for say the first 5k miles just to be safe. But on most of our jeep engines that have 100-200k miles... the working surfaces are so hardened that nothing can affect them. Now if you want an oil that has a solid zinc content in it, say your breaking in a new cam/lifters. Your going to want to run the brad penn break in oil, or the joe gibbs break in oil. They are the only 2 that actually formulate specifically for the flat tappet market. When i spoke with valvoline they said their VR1 line has the highest zinc of any of their oils, So that is also an option though i have not tested it myself yet. :) I currently run valvoline 10/30 or 10/40 in my stuff and add the zddplus. No issues to date. Most of my clients run brad penn as once i have them break the cam in on the stuff, they fall in love with it and its green color...lol. Hope this helps. :) dave

Truck has a left lean
mountainman replied to Glenn Moyer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm going for the "gas tank side and typically only driver in car" its whole life scenario. Cause mine leans too, yet the whole truck is super clean one owner. And the PO only weighs prob 180 lbs. My plan is to swap the front coils from left to right when i lift it. Been also trying to keep my ice chest on the pass side of the bed up toward the front. That seemed to help when the ice chest was loaded. -
Wow... good to know. Thanks for this post and the info within. You guys should get your money back no prob. Card companies know what to do.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I loves me some hot stacked women.... so I'm glad you all do too. :) 86custom, I'm shootin for my MJ to be like the pics i posted. Plan to go up 5/6 inches or so, and then 33s or maybe 35s. depends on what my brain decides when my tire guy is placing the order...lol. I'm a high functioning kinda guy so theres no way ill ever settle with mall crawler status. Mine will have all the little stuff needed to flex when i need it to. And i don't trailer to anywhere so it will need to be super reliable. Its a clean truck so if i do get super hooked and decide i want to go thrashin, ill buy another one thats beater status and wreck that.

car-part.com has some decently priced short boxes within a few states of you. They also have some decently priced D44's. So i may get one from them when the time comes. :)

So yesterday i manch'd my way on down to the local picApart for some more recon. Now that ive learned more i have quite a list of items id like to collect. #1 thing i was after was a pass side headlight surround. (handled) D44's were 2nd on my list. #3 was some 95-99 chevy truck shackles. Then anything else that caught my eye. There were approx 30 jeeps there and yet.. not ONE d44. WTF!!! AND... not ONE 95-99 chevy. W T F. So anyways i got to thinking, if any of you need anything let me know. I could go pull it for you and send it out. Here everything is VERY dry and so many of you who live in the rust belt could prob use stuff off of these XJ's and Mj's These guys at the yard don't give 2 shiites and as soon as a truck seems to have no more usefull stuff on it.. they crush it. Clean manche got crushed about 2 weeks ago. I was sad and held a burial ceremony. It lives on in that i have its hood on my manch. Your thoughts? Possibly make this thread into the "junk yard traders" thread. need a part post here and someone in some state can snag one if they know where one is. There is SO much stuff out there... its crazy. If we don't snag it, it will just go to scrap.

Hello there all CC friends. My name is David but i go by dave most of the time. Grew up in northern CA and have been wheelin my whole life, but in old VWs.Moved out to Las Vegas in 2002 and have been here since and cookin in the desert. Ive always wanted a jeep but doing the vw thing and drag racing and road racing have always kept me plenty busy. Still the dream persisted and i would stare at pics of lifted jeeps every few weeks or so and debate what i wanted to do. I wanted a way early jeep as i like the boxy look of them, and how tiny they are. But i could never find what i wanted. Then i ran into a group of XJ's out on the trail, and saw some travel over rocks and went.... I want THAT! I then set to studying later models..... :typing: wait wait wait.... they make a pickup? :brows: I then saw stuff like this... and this.. annnnd this and got super stoked. Now how TF am i gonna find one of these? I looked a bit and kept my eyes peeled... hell ive never even seen one on the road...EVER. Well i build and restore old cars for a living so one day i ran into a guy who had some old vws and old stude's. He invited me to his compound to have a look. When i get there... in front is his house is a white MJ. I'm busy with his other stock so i don't even ask about the truck. 4 years goes by..... i stop by to see him and chat about old stuff... the MJ is gone.... WTF! he says... oh its out back, lets go see it. We round the corner and there she is... clinging to life with nobody at her bedside. He had a diabetic episode and fell asleep at the wheel. Rammed the back of a lexus at about 20 mph. Total'd the lexus and sent it to the junk yard :waving: Truck was beat up a bit in the nose area but nothing i can't fix, and i figure hes gonna ask me to repair it. I said... whats the plan for it? he says........ you want it? I said... HELL YEAH i want it! he looks at me and says... for you.. 500 bucks. I couldnt get my wallet out fast enough. So i got it and he trailered it over to my place. I then set to work getting it roadworthy and during that stint i found this place... :D So now here are some pics of her off life support and now being my DD. Only grill and bumper i could find clean enough were all chrome, so ive been working to get that straightened out. Did the grill yesterday and the bumper will be soon enough. 1991 pioneer/lwb 4.0 HO AX15 D30 front and chrysler 8.25 rear. replaced/was broken from wreck: pwr steering pump pulley AC fan fan shroud radiator AC condenser AC lines rad support/headlight carrier grill bumper hood straightened forward frame area and pass fender cut and repaired bent LCA bracket on pass side of axle recharged AC replaced pos and neg cables changed oil so....... the "long" shot Where all the damage was...."was" next to her, my other baby.. 57 bus...offroad beast. Thanks for reading and chat with yall soon. Ive been wrenching/building since before i could drive, which is over 20 years now so i hope to be able to contribute to this forum with what i can. You guys seem to already have it down, but ill put in what i can. :) :waving: dave

Mine has carpet..... :dunno:
-
Lex did you remove the front end? You can pull the grill and its support in a bout 5 mins. Then you can take the radiator stay off in under a minute and move rad and condenser to the side quite far. Then everything is way easy to do. :D

Ready to see vids of this thing running now. I just love the sound of the idle. This is a swap i have in mind for the big future of my manche, but it will be way out there and only if the 4.0 doesnt do what i want offroad. (which I'm sure it will). Youll enjoy the mileage and endless torque. :)

 ....... :clapping:

What if you have the chrysler 8.25? basically same as d35? (lift and perch wise)?

PS Front axle seal on a d30
mountainman replied to Car RamRod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
whoa... so i don't have to pull the diff? i can just tear down that side and change the seal outboard? thatd be SWEEET. I want to do a 1 piece axle down the road, but for now thats low on the list. Need tires ASAP and not gonna buy 800-1k in tires and then lift and need tires again. So going up a bit before tires. THEN axles are next. :) -
PS Front axle seal on a d30
mountainman replied to Car RamRod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ok question. So is the seal in where the disconnect fork is? since you have that hole in the pic? or is it in by the diff like all the rest? -

Sweet thanks. Any suggestions on what everyone has found to be a good quality set of adjustable LCA's? -
Lift vs. Control Arm Length Table
mountainman replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
So if you budget boost with a 2" spacer up front, you should get adj control arms? or will it be OK?
