i read somewhere that they werent made by cummins, but were contracted to a korean(?) company and were known for head issues from machining the heads while they were still warm from casting? don't remember where i saw it, and havent seen it since

As do I...but then again I hear people all the time saying that IFS is better than a solid axle as far as on-road comfort.... Eh, still cool. I've suddenly been seeing alot about the 3.3 lately...know too much about it? I'm curious

Owner of the company I work for has a willys body on a Tahoe frame, cummins 4bt with a built 700r4 trans. Needs moar turbo.... Pretty good looking rig. Just a highway queen, but still cool I think!

Needs more chrome and lights...and a mini trailer! Still cool... Dad used to sell tires to True Value, at one of their offices they had an even smaller "go cart" big rig, trailer and all.

They made a duct tape boat AND a duct tape cannon

Produce gaylords would probably work great. Theyre made from really thick cardbard (almost .5") thats all waxed for waterproofing when transporting produce. Strong, pre waxed cardboard and duct tape would be a winning combo, i would think

Any chance you have a build thread anywhere on this mj? Seems like a good upgrade from the 2.8 in my 86, just trying to find out more about the swap

I hear Comanche beds make dern good operating tables :D But easy op and speedy recovery pete!
-
Why am I not suprised? Though I've seen dashes, front clips, back 8 inches of a mj bed, and the front half of an xj on a wall...
-
Cool! Looks good on the jeep! Very roomy on the inside?
-
Awesome! Hopefully be ordering some springs from you next month or so!!

Wonder what it costs compared to the 4bt.... Also there was a thread from someone on here who did an om617 swap...don't remember much about it other than good details were few and far between.

The Start Of Something... 86' Comanche Custom
mpace6a replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Yea, lots of problems with mine, though it may be a diamond in the rough. I can use 5th gear fairly regularly, and am getting somewhere around 17-18 mpgs with it, but its just been problem after problem with the carb and vacuum system, and now recently another fuel pump. But, 2.8 aside, its my mj and I love it, and someday it'll get a sbm -
The Start Of Something... 86' Comanche Custom
mpace6a replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
MJ looks good man! Wish mine had the 4 banger instead of the dreaded 2.8, maybe then I could do fun stuff with it! -
Same, or if I get another Comanche maybe Yeah, I should be passing through again this weekend, hopefully i can catch him!
-
well if my mj ever takes a bad hit to the bed ill be aiming to outdo this one! :mj1:

Honestly, never even heard of them? Googling now... And as far as the frame, because of the fuel tank and all the hard lines, no free real estate on the inside of the frame, and don't want to mount it opposite of the tank near the exhaust, for obvious reasons.

Thats what I thought at first, too. But the size of his wheel wells looks wider than the thickness of the bed at its widest point. Plus If he had just removed the outside sheet metal couldn't he have kept the oe tailgate?

mpace6a replied to Geonovast's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Axles aside...looks like a pretty fun rig. Bobbed rear actually doesnt look half bad, and looks well done. -
Ah...why didnt I think of bolting it horizontally  Time to modify my bracket and make this work!
-
No...need to PM you for some cards...and I wasnt driving sadly. A friend was and he was on a tight schedule to get back. :fs1: But...I do know where it is...and am already planning a return trip

Saw this MJ on my way back home from camping. Got a couple pics of it as we passed by. Anyone know who it belongs to? The bed looks pretty well done! Thought it was a pretty cool sight! . :MJ 1: .

So currently my jeep has a burnt up mr gasket electric fuel pump mounted under the bed with self tapping screws. Now, I have a Holley Red Series pump to replace the low quality POS that mr gasket makes. Because it is extremely particular in how it has to be mounted, I fabbed up a quick bracket to mount it below the bed near the pump. I plan on mounting it in the current pumps location, like so: Now, my question is, how should I mount the pump to the bed? Self tapping screws work in a pinch, but they vibrate out, and being that its a $100 pump and rather vital to my vehicles operation, I want it as secure as possible. My ideas are either to just weld the bracket to the beds support rail, or to cut a hole in the top, weld two nuts inside the rail, close up the hole, and then bolt it to the welded nuts using lock washers. I think I will have the same results either way, and I know for fact that i can re weld the beds floor in place and nobody will ever know it was cut, because i've done it before. Opinions, or perhaps better ideas?

Mine has the dreaded 2.8... but aside from that, I've noticed the same thing about 86's around here, they all seem to be fairly rust free (floorboards aside) I wonder why that is?
