Hey Redwolf, any updates on your mj?
-
Explain a full "frame off" restoration of a Comanche to me? :hmm: ;) uh... maybe half frame-off resto is more fitting? It's not a full unibody since the bed comes off, so that's what I was getting at. The cab obviously would have to be turned and just sprayed and whatnot from underneath. Both Eliminators I had came with a center console. More than likely though it could have been a check box option the original owner wanted. The '86 I just bought is only an X I think (need to check for sure with the VIN) but looks like an XLS with all the chrome and everything on it that my other X I had didn't have. The key reason I think it was just check boxes ticked off is that it has steel wheels and not turbines like a true XLS. my 86 comanche x has the 2.8, ax5, black interior, bench seat, aluminum wheels, and chrome everywhere

I was just thinking it may be the ground...do you know where it would ground at? Besides the back of the dimmer switch? -

Anybody?? -
Havent you learned anything from dexter? Cut it up, put it in trash bags, weigh down with rocks, drop into a current. All gone. Also, supposedly lye will dissolve everything...dunno, don't care to find out, either.

Just put a full cluster in my 86 2.8...wondering what normal rpm shift points, idle, and redline are for the 2.8 with ax5... Speedo...old one only worked when it wanted, would randomly stop, and buzz like the cable was coming out..turns out the retaining clip in the guage side of the in-cab cable was gone...put a new speedo with a different style cable in, and it doesnt always work, but no buzzing...any thoughts? Dash lights. Never had any. Lights are all there, and work, but not in the dash. Replaced cluster, dimmer switch...so its gotta be a wiring issue, right? Can anyone help shed some light on this issue?

Yeah, they are...different...and may require the blood of a virgin sacrifice to repair some parts...but...me likey

Thats where I got all my 2.8 parts...S10's and GMC S15's

He's Rob...Lol

Details...minor details. Although those minor details do put a wrench in the gears.

When its up and running, feel free to drop it off at my place  Sweet truck, I'd love to get ahold of one, but there about as common as a J20 'round here...non-existant.

cheaper aint always better, but all the cheaper stuff i'm buyin is only a temp fix, i'm gonna overhaul my whole MJ bumper to bumper, and it's gonna look show room new, Redwolf Thats my plan as well...only with a diesel under the hood :mj1: :rockin:
-
yea cheaper=better. my current project is machining an adapter plate for the tbi intake to bolt on a motorcraft 2 barrel carb off of a d series dodge350 with a 318.
-
I have no clue, check all your local auto parts stores, dealership, and junkyards for another one, best advice i can offer...
-
i bought a perfectly running xj, external slave ax15, for less than that. $300, to be exact.

I have had my MJ for 5 years and 99% of the time I do great but I have my moments when I stall out in my yard lol I love driving stick shift cars and trucks. My WK Grand Cherokee even has auto stick (sport shifter) it's always fun to play with a V8 even if its just a 4.7L I can't wait to get my uncle's 1990 300ZX running again its a blast to drive with the T-Tops off! Love those cars...really want one for a DD!

just a curiosity, do you just arc and tig stuff together? Or do you have a mig hidden somewhere back there too? Need a good welder for a home setup..leaning towards a setup like your new one, but unsure at the moment.
-
Clean the engine as best as you can and track it down. Maybe from a valve cover gasket that didnt seal well? Cork or rubber gaskets? If at all possible upgrade to a simple 2 barrel carb with no vacuum
-
I have a mystery oil leak too. Although I'm fairly certain its from the rear main seal. And I would assume your carb needs adjusted or rebuilt.

Why check for anything? Because I'm a broke college kid who will need it to be a daily driver. This would be my 4th MJ, 5th Jeep truck, and 8th vehicle. I don't mind working on them, but it needs to run and drive without major issues at least until school starts back up again in August. Trust me, I'm in one of the worst possible areas for buying used vehicles from private sellers. They all think their $500 vehicle is worth several thousand and it is the heart of the rust belt so that makes things even worse. Unless I was just buying something as a parts rig, I would not buy something without hearing it run around here. I've seen more rednecked together vehicles around here than I care to. Can't go a day without seeing someone driving around with their exhaust hanging out from under the vehicle, mismatched replacement body panels, 2x10s used as (front) bumpers, smashed in front ends without any headlights. I just don't get how people around here get by with the stuff I've seen. But anyways, thanks for the list of stuff guys. I suppose I should try to find a vac diagram for that 2.8L, but even then I could be there all day checking that tangled mess. If you need a reliable dd i'd look somewhere other than an mj with a 2.8. Mine is my ONLY vehicle, and i've spent more than one week shelling out gas money to whoever could give me a ride to work and back. just a thought.

IIRC, the 2.2 perkins was based off of a jap 4cyl
