  1. It fits. Steering, winch, rad fans... But, I've decided to do things a little differently. I think I will make the winch tray portion removeable, and weld the rest of the crap in. This should be easiest in the long run, and I don't mind buying MORE steel! Oh, and, in case you don't know; using 6011 stick for cutting out bolts doesn't work too well. It just seems to weld the whole mess together. Serves me right for being lazy...
  2. How do you like your name? My problem is that every time I run into another Scott they seem to be female. But hey, another Scott owning a MJ, that's something.
  3. I think it's wrong. But I haven't tried 2dr XJ flares yet as I don't have a 2dr. But, I just might play a bit the next time I'm in the junkyard (probably tomorrow).
  4. It's just like galvanized, grind it off first. The only problem is that you can't grind the inside of the frame rails, which are also coated.
  5. To tell if there axle is an 'undesireable' 78, look at the arm mounts and the coil mounts. If you can see they are welded to the axle tube, and you can still see the tube, for the whole length from pumpkin to knuckle, it's not a 78. If the tube dissapears into a casting that holds the arm mount and coil buckets, it's a 78. If you cut the 78 ones apart, things get ugly.
  6. If your electrical is okayish, it will only follow grounds... Otherwise you've already got electrical problems. Although, I guess with this crowd that'd be likely.
  7. I'm with Pete... Take EVERYTHING! I wheel in some very remote areas (at times), sorta the places that it's an hour or two back to the FSR, and then an hour or two back to pavement, and then an hour or two back to a real town. If you've got to get dragged that whole way, or send somebody back for something, it sucks.
  8. That's what galvanizing is -- zinc plating.
  9. I know a guy who got his truggy to 'pass'. But that's because he in turn, knows another guy, who just happens to do VIs.
  10. You don't need to even pull the battery... I NEVER do for mine. Heck, I've welded on it while it's running.
  11. I consider leaf springs to be an entirely rebuildable/disposable component. If they go flat, or get bent, it's just an oppertunity to try another combination of junkyard leaves. That and my MJ does not see enough milage between 'being broken' for it to really matter. And I'm itching to 4-link the rear. Or 1-link it. Or 3 link it. Or something involving links (or zero links... hmm).
  12. Yeah, it's a pain. I'd rather nothing broke BY FAR! Even 'easy' things on the trail get hard in a hurry. Especially if you're fighting bugs, lying in mud, or have a nagging woman around.
  13. This is gonna work, I just need to get stronger. Or pull the rad. The crossmember with the winch bolted to it weighs god knows what... I'm NOT benchpressing it in place. I'll have to come up with some crazy redneck system to lift it up for me. Or install studs into the alignment nuts. But, I got the steering to clear. Just took a little notching.
  14. My Speedy told me no. And everyone else I talked to
  15. I let mine invert themselves. Not much, but just a tad... They WERE working great, until I bent a main. That had something to do with the pack fanning out because it had no clamps on it though...
  16. Yeah, I didn't believe Eagle. Then I went out and put the MJ fenders on the XJ....
  17. Eagle will hate you. But I say do it.
  18. I've got custom 3/4" ubolts... I'll reuse them till the day I die. And I'll have complete faith in them.
  19. I didn't. The inner fenders do it for me.
  20. What are those? Fence hooks with a bar through them, connected to a cupboard handle? Pure sex.
  21. I gotta get me some of those 1-tons. Next time around.
  22. I'm going to put my spare steering box in today and see how things fit. Then we'll go from there.
  23. I was thinking I'd have that problem too, but I figured out a way around it; for now. But, this winch is cheap, and I anticipate blowing it up.
  24. The semi-gloss black bedliner on my truck was a great idea. Right. Maybe if I had A/C. Ohwell.
