Well, today while at work, I had an epithany (or something). I'm going to run leafs in the front, and the waggy LPD44. Leafs rear, isuzu 12B, yadda yadda. Basically, make it work as fast as possible. Then I can narrow my HP axle at my leasure, and build a proper front suspension. First issue is I don't have a 4.56 gearset for a LPD44. Working on that. Secondly, I have no clue what leaves to run up front. BrettM used Waggy LIFT leaves, and came out with 8" or something. However, I don't remember what lift the leaves were supposed to give... I know how I'll build the front crossmember though. The leaf mounts at the back end are making me think though. I'll have to make them bolt to my unibody bracing (which has nuts welded into it to bolt things to). It might be a little odd though. Oh yeah, and I'll be running the shackles in the front. Screw the flip. That and I finially pulled my crossmember yesterday, and found my tranny mount was in two clean peices. I'm not sure on what my workaround on that will be just yet. Thinking, thinking, but never doing. And there's the debate; run my spool in the front or not? :nanner: Probably not.

Yeah, well, as far as names go, it's not great, and it reflects the XJ.

Project Plan for Review D44s, 38s and 5.88
DirtyComanche replied to jage's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A D44 in a rear application is not going to be happy with 38s. The craptastic TJ front D44 is a jsut that, craptastic. Yeah, it's stronger than a D30, but you've got to dump a lot of coin into it to make it reasonable. I'm talking alloy shafts, CTMs, hub conversion. Even then it still sucks because the ball joints are so small. There's other options. I'm hoping my intended ford/waggy HPD44 hybrid and isuzu 12B will hold 38s. -

You want to run 38s? What type of wheeling? I see potential problems. -
Anybody got ideas on leaf springs?

Exploders are SUA. Hmm. Well, I can tell you based on my previous looking at random things in the junkyard, that they are probably going to drop the truck... -
Got to wheel today!!

Is a $100 tire expensive of something? New, my tires would have cost $1260 for 5. Oh, nice wheeling pics. -
Anybody got ideas on leaf springs?
DirtyComanche replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hmm, not going to be able to run the stock leafs backwards, at least not easily/nicely. Oh, and I have another motive. One of my main leafs is bent, and it's might hard to find 'manche leaves. -
Actually, they messed with the torque curve too, they have less low-end. Peak torque is about 1000RPM higher. It's something that you only really notice if you are into banging gears though.

Mmmm, The HO makes like 6 more HP. And gets 2/3 the gas milage. Therefor, I call them HoHos.

Anybody got ideas on leaf springs?
DirtyComanche replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ours are offset or centred? Hmm, I could go check. I really don't need a longer leaf, just the centre pin hole back a bit. I'm hoping I can get a little better departure angle. It kicked my @$$ a couple times. -
That rust bucket has potential. Here's what ya should do: Swap the drivetran into your other 'manche. Ditch the bed and doors off the rust bucket. Hack frame off just behind cab. Run a hybrid ford/chevy HPD60 front, and a D70 rear. Narrow the front down a hair, maybe 6" off each side. Of course, throw a 350/sm465/np203/np205 drivetran into it. 1/4 elliptical the rear. Leaf the front. Full exo and 42" tires. Good to go. And nobody loses.

Anybody got ideas on leaf springs?
DirtyComanche replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'll need only the main leaf and the one below it maybe, not even. How arched it is might matter. I was jsut wondering if anybody knew off hand of one. It's that or I'll go to the junkyard armed with a tape measure and a heck of a lot of time. I decided that I might as well get a little more wheelbase since I FUBARed my driveshaft anyways, and I'm swapping rears, and I don't mind cutting my flatbed apart again... -

I need a leaf spring with the centre pin hole about 3-4" farther back than the stock 'manche ones, and about the same length. Anybody got ideas? -
Did he put spacers on the rear or anything? Definatly a deal though.

If you're going to take the time/money to make MOGs works, at least build a better sunspension setup. I doubt it would be hard to 4-link a 'manche rear, or run a 1-link if you want it to be really easy. To mount coils or 1/4 elliptical leaves, you'd probably have to cut a bunch of stuff. That's a good thing.

Alternator Question

Uh, I've got a 61amp... No, it doesn't work worth $#!&. -
SOA axle/spring-wrap??!
DirtyComanche replied to Oizarod115's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine wrapped like a mother when it was stock. Well, that was when I actually got enough traction for it to wrap. Gotta love being able to leave rubber through 5 gears. -
Alternator Question
DirtyComanche replied to DansGreyMj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's pretty random what they got. But, AFIK, 160amp alternators were NOT avaliable stock. However, you can use one. If I could get my hands on one cheap, I sure as hell would.
