  1. I sold all of my rusty's stuff. I explained to the guy who bought it all the short comings with it and what he should change. As far as I know he at least took part of my advice on it. I hope he changed the joints to something better... I didn't give him a choice on their track bar mount, I'd already ribbed it. And same goes for all the hardware - it was replaced with gr8. I wasn't willing to sell it otherwise. As I see it, Rusty engineered a death trap with that LA setup.
  2. I had some homebrew beer once. What an experience. My toilet will never forgive me. The floor probably wasn't too happy about it either.
  3. I'd rather not pay double... I'd just go without.
  4. What's wrong with him? He's just got a steelie for a spare. EVERYONE knows if your spare is visible, it must be bling too...
  5. I think that they admitted to it.
  6. Perhaps. There has been no toy solid front axles since what, 87? Look how much more aftermarket there is for them now, than there was then. That includeds new housings, knuckles, shafts/joints, thirds, and all the little BS. Personally I'd rather not turn to the aftermarket if I don't have to. It'sa lot cheaper to buy stuff used from the boneyard. But that day may be coming to an end.
  7. It is a ballast resistor, but it is for the fuel pump. When it goes bad, the jeep will start and run for a couple seconds, then die. The pump is given full voltage during start-up, but once running it is routed through the resistor so the pump isn't cranking out way more fuel than needed.
  8. I dunno, I think they've made decent sales on the new wrangler things.
  9. I think it'll extend pump life too. The junkyard is full of them. How'd you break it? Hammer?
  10. I don't care what jeep does. They discontinued the stuff I like. And they never really sold much in the way of good drivetran stuff. I care about ford, chevy, dodge, IH, 'suzu, etc who all have been known to make some pretty good parts donors. If they all decide there is no room for solid axles and standard configured engines... Inevitably we're hooped.
  11. Okay, good, I was a little worried. The generator is worth more than my jeep... Actually, both of my jeeps.
  12. Well, the funny thing about it is the pump might actually have failed because it ran dry... His hydro-assist leaked so bad that it prompted using used oil in the first place, and such that the pump would run dry after a couple hours...
  13. Apparently some people keep diesel in red cans. And the generator was dry out (had emptied it last fall) so I just started pouring away... I was thinking 'funny, 'tis pink. Is this marked gas?" Then I started to think. And sure enough, it wasn't gonna start on that. I fulled the fuel lines and flushed it all as best I could using gas (the regular yellow stuff). There's some residual diesel in everything.... Think it'll cause me any grief? It's a 4-stroke...
  14. Put the jeeps in storage and pre-pay for a while. Sell everything else and tell the gf you lost it all by gambling on the internet. If she's a keeper she'll stick around. Er...
  15. Fabric, quilting, or craft store. As a guess. They look pretty decent.
  16. Don't some toys run oil instead of P/S fluid? I know somebody that ran used engine oil in his P/S for quite a while. Eventually the pump obliderated itself. But it wasn't like that was suprising on anything.
  17. Just a bit thick there, eh? Looks good. I was going to do that for the bumper on my XJ but time bit me in the butt.
  18. I felt some of their work was a little shoddy, and they cheaped out on some things in strange ways. It comes down to personal use and taste. I don't actually buy anything off-the-shelf anymore because nothing would actually fit on my pile because it's been so hacked up. And I've got some strange opinons on how things should work too.
  19. Depends what you mean. I actually have a longer exhaust system than on a stock truck, I think. Well, it's close either way. Because it runs under the cab and then up the back to the roof line. The key to having an exhaust system make power is maintaining low end scavenging and yet allow there to be enough flow for high rpm usage. Mine seemed to work alright as it was with just the stock crushed downpipe and a cherry bomb, then the long tail. Right now I cut the mess off right at the downpipe. So, it doesn't work worth anything. I need to break out the bender, but it turns out I don't have enough left over tube right now. Basically I'm pretty PO'd with the whole thing and don't feel like fixing it yet.
  20. I'd use #19 gun wash/thinner if you can get it. Be warned - it's high test. And that front emblem might be glued on if anybody has ever played with it.
  21. I'd fix it, but I have the means... Well, I'd probably not 'fix' it per se.
  22. The steering pumps were the same all the way up till 95 or 96 or something. At least, that's what I think. I have a 92 on my 89 and I compared them both. There is a difference, but it's not an issue (had to do with pressure output).
  23. The closed cooling system is actually superior to the open one - you just have to keep it together. Almost all modern vehicles run them for a reason. 99% of the time it's the stupid plastic resivoir or cap that goes.
  24. 10w30 is probably the best option. But it varies by climate, intended use and engine age. But I'm not an oil guy.
