  1. I don't have the cash to buy a place AND actually do anything to it. I'll be bascially throwing the majority of my liquid assets against it as a down-payment in order to even qualify for a mortgage. Down the road, yeah, I'd hope to have the money... But, still, I don't need a big house, I'm single and I like it that way. So, it's really just that I can't get over the concept of living in something without a real foundation. Where abouts do you live, meatgrinder? I've been looking in Hart and Blackburn and area (out by the airport) mostly...
  2. Well, I found one with a 900 square foot mobile (single with a little addition) and a 1500 square foot shop. It's really tempting to just let the mullet grow.
  3. Okay, I'm not trying to be rude, because I'm sure plenty of people on here do... But, I've been looking at housing that fits my critera to buy. Why? I pay about $675 a month in rent for a place I don't like and doesn't suit my needs (an apartment located downtown). Renting doesn't get you anywhere, but it does allow you to simply pack up and leave if you're ever so inclined. However, it seems like my employment is reasonably secure, and I do make enough money to afford a mortgage in the range of $1000 - 1200 a month, and if I have a spare room or two to rent I can make that much easier (I have lots of co-workers who I would trust enough to give cheap rent to). The thing is, the only real requirment for the place I buy is that it has a detached shop/garage that's about 20x20 or better. Oh, and that I can actually afford to buy it. And that it isn't in the city and has enough space, but that's kinda given as I won't get a detached garage/shop in the city and all of the lots out of town are sizable. Unfortunatly, that leaves me with a lot of trailers (mobile homes) with nice detached garages. For some reason, maybe it's my upbringing, I just don't think I can do it. Maybe it's because I told a girl friend of mine, and she made some comment about how she 'wouldn't be a trailer trash queen of mine'. She was joking (I think), but still, the fear is there... Okay, so this post really has no point... But I'm one closer to 5000...
  4. On having more than a two-party system... That doesn't always work out either. Our last election was a farce. 5 parties (Liberal, Conservative, NDP, Green, Block-heads). The liberal candidate had no spine, couldn't speak either language, and really just comes off as a wuss - not leadership material. The conservative came off as a smug a-hole at times, and has some rather 'extreme right' views for the relative middle-grounds of the average Canadian. Oh, and he'd probably sell us out, just can't trust him... NDP, yeah, they're pretty much commies when it comes to most things, but they hug trees too, and quite honestly scare me MORE than any other party. Green, no chance, they're basically a pro-environment party, which would be okay if they had a economic plan to go with it... And the block-heads (properly known as the 'bloc-du-quebecois or however it is spelled) is a federal separtist party from Quebec, and they only run in Quebec... Oookay, yeah, they got my vote... So who would you pick out of that list? IMHO, it was a matter of picking the least damaging one and hoping that nobody got a majority government. Yeah... And guess what? It came out as a minority government, so nothing gets done, but at least they don't do the WRONG thing. The only thing going for our system is we don't drag out the process. Only a couple debates, and not really enough time to run too many different attack ads...
  5. And don't neutral drop the auto... Or install a trans brake. That sounds like a good idea, but it breaks things... Okay, maybe most people wouldn't think that sounds like a good idea, but I think it does. Umm, I wanna see if I can find the video... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 0538&hl=en He's a good friend of mine... And totally crazy.
  6. Low speed in 4wd or dry pavement? It should bind/hop in part time... Unless you're throttle happy and get all the tires spinning, then it's smoootherest. With the posi-lok thingo on he's still only in 2wd, as I understand it. With a lurch-box locker I don't think you should see bind then, as it should allow one wheel to over-speed the other... Should just go clicky-clicky... So uh, somebody might have not bothered to measure the gap when they did the install... Or maybe it's working peachy and it's just my limited experience with these lockers.
  7. Is it? The blades off my MJ and XJ that I have hanging up (incase I ever actually put them back on) are certainly not 18"... Maybe 16". So, what's the biggest that fits well?
  8. I wanna know how it comes out. Any risk of the masking being embedded in the paint stuff?
  9. I guess that sounded bad. Okay, we make it fly and fly reliably. And find the problems on the gound before they are a problem in flight.
  10. I'm an AME apprentice... It's AMT in the states (basically the same thing). AME - Aircraft Maintenace Engineer. Basically, we try to keep things flying.
  11. Site maintenance.
  12. Do an idler pulley delete.
  13. Never read it... I might have to track down a copy. It'll give me something to read for when things are slow. I like these machines - they all have so much history given their age. Thanks.
  14. 60HDs have 1.5" shafts, AFAIK. At least the spindles are bored for 1.5" shafts, as they use the same spindles/hubs as a D70. And some old stuff is 16 spline 1.31". I had a housing that came with those shafts (it was screwed, so I cut it up in the name of science).
  15. It's a neat place. I wish I'd taken more pictures on the way there and back... There was huge sections of the trip that I simply didn't stop, as I was trying to get there early enough to fly into the camp that same day (no dice). The weather wasn't too cooperative while I was in camp either, or I could have got some awesome pictures from the machine on the way in/out. As it was we were dodging the fog/clouds.
  16. So what is this zolatone? I'm interested.
  17. I'd assume they have upgraded shafts. Because the stock ones are 1.31" 30 spline, exactly what a D44 has. Which is my point, it is only as strong as a D44. If that's strong enough, then it will be fine...
  18. Not really. Well, I don't know what he plans with it. But most stock 60s are hardly better than a stock 44, but with worse ground clearance and a lot more weight.
  19. Are you sure the one side was seized? If you spin an open diff axle from the pinion, it will only spin one shaft... If you put a bar on that shaft, it should spin easy enough.
  20. The next day we drove/flew to this place... Atco-vill, your home in the middle of nowhere! No snow yet, and the weather was still nice! Image Not Found Of course, we got there at noonish and the machine was still going to fly for the rest of the day... And away it goes. Image Not Found Apparently they felt there was a need to have an aluminum boat in the mountains :P Image Not Found Quantum was flying in fuel with a 205, so I took some pics (being bored) Image Not Found Image Not Found So, we worked through the night, and got this baby peachy to go. Notice, there is now snow. It rained for the first 3 hours, then it snowed like mad... It's above freezing, so you can't tell we actually had 8" of snow-fall. Image Not Found Good-bye snowy camp. Image Not Found Image Not Found I didn't take any pictures on the way back. We were just trying to GTFO before we got conned into doing anything else.
  21. Just did a little trip to bang off an inspection. It was a total disaster, or what we call 'buisness as usual'. Anyways, I actually thought to take my camera and pictures this time, so here's some... Pulled over at Dease Lake, because I needed to stretch my legs. Image Not Found It was all frosty, you can see it on the rails... Winter is almost here. Image Not Found Back on the road, near Huston I think. Yeah, it's a REALLY busy road. Image Not Found Hmm, snow ahead... Image Not Found Somewhere past Kitwanga, stopped to stretch again... Image Not Found Old FSR I was dying to take a drive down. Image Not Found Downtown Stewart Image Not Found Drove over to Alaska (Hyder) because we were bored, nice little pond near the bear feeding grounds. Image Not Found This area is a tourist attraction, the bears feed on the running salmon, and people pay big bucks to watch from relative safety. The fish are done, and the bears are about to go to sleep, so all is quiet. Image Not Found The Pacific Image Not Found Image Not Found We drove the truck out on this rotten old pier. We took bets on if a 1-ton would break it or not... Well, the truck didn't wind up in the drink... Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found
  22. Leaving loose change visible is like having a huge 'break into me' sign on your truck. A lot of low-end thieves are just looking for enough money to get a fix ($5 to $40) or a bottle, and change is an easy enough way to get that... If you had the ash tray closed, it's one of the first places people look. And leaving the doors unlocked just asks for people to look...
  23. I'll say 95% certain it's a 60. For lots of reasons. The first being it appears to be stamped on it, as it is on all Dana axles. However, you'd really need to wire brush it to say for sure. Secondly, there's like eleventy-billion D60 rears out there, where-as D70s and D80s are less common. Also, I can't really say if it is SF or FF (your picture sucks) but I'm assuming it's SF, which means it has to be a 60. And the brakes are too small for a 70 or 80. So, 60 VS 70? The only thing a rear 60 has on a 70 is ground clearance, and it has precious little more than a 70. The 70 has a larger ring gear (10.5" vs 9.75"), bigger axleshafts (normally it will be 35 spline 1.5" AFAIK, vs most rear 60s being 30 spline 1.31" - the same as a D44), better pinion bearings (especially in the 70HD units), and better wheel bearings and hubs. Oh, and 70s come with huge drum brakes normally, not that you should care (not really a pro IMHO, as drum brakes are 'stupid') Actually, looking at the picture again, it might well be FF.
  24. My W123, W126, and W210 Benz always worked best with glow plugs. That reminds me of when I first bought my cummins, I posted something (as a joke) on a certain forum to the extent that I was having trouble locating the spark plugs... I got quite a detailed explaintation on why I should sell my newly acquired truck  (They have neither spark plugs nor glow plugs)
  25. So, where's the missing peice? I've seen the electrodes break, but never the threaded portion. Is the tip all still intact?
