  1. That sounds stupid. Honestly. But I guess you have a spare upper link then.
  2. So, what were the finals on? Gasoline fighting, blue steel, turning left?
  3. As motion said... Go with a regular one... The benefits are none on a MJ. FWIW, PORC has their HD SYE on for $159.99 US (IIRC). Gotta mention the word 'pirate4x4' though.
  4. I can't see going any thicker than 3/8" for much. Which all of those are rated to cut. Most of them will sever in the 1/2" area. I use 1/8" and 3/16" more than most thicknesses. 1/4" for link brackets... I figure that's a decent match for my MM 180s capabilities for welding. But, I could be wrong.
  5. I've heard lots of people liking the 375 extreme... I was just going to go with the regular one because I don't think I need portability like that. But maybe I do? I dunno.
  6. Nifty idea. Could save some hassle when it comes time to trouble-shoot.
  7. I'm thinking about buying a plasma. I think it would make me happy. So, I looked at the chinese ones that certain vendors on pirate are selling here, and I'm definatly not sold. Maybe they're fine. But, it's a huge hassel to me if they aren't once you throw in cross-border shipping and everything else. That and the vendors were somethat less than professional. I can also get what looks to be an identical unit locally from the chinese tool dealer, but it's enough money that buying a reputabile machine seems to make more sense. So, I think I'd rather get one of these: -Miller Spectrum 375 -ESAB HandyPlasma 380 -Hypertherm Powermax 30 Has anyone here used any of them, or own one? Or have any comments to make? They're all fairly comparable in capability. The hypertherm doesn't have a built in regulator - not a big deal. However, I think it might have the nicest torch as far as being able to see what you're doing. I own a MM 180, and lean towards the miller on that alone. But the ESAB machine might be a better deal. Granted, I haven't managed to get a local quote on any of them yet...
  8. I like RKs design because it is a 3-link, however I know nothing about the quality of it or how well it actually does work. Lift kits are over my head.
  9. It would make more sense to swap out the 2.8.
  10. People make sure a huge deal about gears. Stop bothering. It doesn't freaking matter if it's 2200 or 2500 rpm. Which is about all the difference you'll see. But you might lose a tenth at the strip! Woohoo... Yeah... (Remember, this is my opinion, and no, I don't have any professional training in anything related to a jeep)
  11. There's lots like Spuzzum, and worse... One of my favorites is a place called 'Progress' - it's about half way between Dawson Creek and Chetwynd. 2 abandoned/burned buildings, 3 occupied buildings, and a big tent that they keep sand for sanding the road under. Yeah, that's Progress! Stoner is a good one too... And Won-o-Won (101 mile point on the Alaska highway, you can tell the natives named it)...
  12. Should work. Low gears won't hurt. Try it and report back.
  13. You have to grind into the C... Don't be a kitty about it, they crowned the all hell out of the weld to begin with, then you've gotta go a bit farther. It won't matter as you'll build the area back up with a new bead anyways...
  14. Looks like he's got 4-points, should be okay.
  15. Yeah... I took the plug welds out with a torch. Then I used a carbide burr to clean up the hole I'd made to ensure there wasn't anything still holding... Then you press it out, which can be kinda complicated. A porta-power is the best way, I'd guess... But I didn't get that far with it (yet). I plan to put a large bottle jack inside the centre section to do it. Might work, might not. To get the knuckles off the tubes, typically you can just grind the weld off, then beat them off with a hammer. They might be really tight, in which case you'll want to freeze the housing, then put a torch on the Cs and beat them... Most of them will just come off with a hammer.
  16. Okay, at work they layed off 5 of my friends yesterday... But that's not at all bad compared with the news that they'd bother to remake that movie.
  17. Combination of a bunch of problems. Yeah, sure, fixing one thing might 'fix' it. But I bet everything is ugly.
  18. A 6000 won't be enough... Unless you use a snatch block for even simple extractions. Which is a pain, nobody ever does it, then you burn the winch up.
  19. Do you have to pickle it?? I guess I'll have to try that this year! Kinda reminds me of the movie Red Dawn where the kid kills his first dear and has to drink the blood..... :ack: That is a horrible movie.
  20. Yeah, it's Spences Bridge, heading east. Not yet into town, if you can call it a town.
  21. There's tons of underhood room for a compressor.
  22. Parasitic loss is about 30%. Always. Don't blame the auto.
  23. I hate nibblers. An air body saw with a good blade works well for making it pretty. But I can do pretty decent with an angle grinder... You don't want to see my sawzall work though.
  24. Flywheel... And I'll say 114.
