  1. Check for vacuum leaks, then check for bad spark. Meaning spark plugs, wires, cap/rotor, or coil may be getting faulty. Could also be CPS, but those are the two things that have fixed this stalling issue for me in the past.
  2. I used 96 XJ visors on my 89 MJ. The difference was the center mount of the visors. This also changed in later MJ's though too. The headliner I got was from a 91 MJ, and it had matching holes with the 96 XJ, so the visors lined up, I just had to drill new holes in the sheet metal in the middle to mount them.
  3. I would make sure the gap on the spark plugs is set properly I found that any plugs I have bought recently all need to be gapped properly. .035 if I remember correctly. I am old-school and ALWAYS confirm the gap on any spark plugs I do, but I know many folks that just put plugs in without checking and setting the gap.
  4. Ok, yes it should definitely go away when braking.
  5. There are these spring clips that go over the "wings" on the brake pad mounts that provide a bit of resistance to the pads so they are not able to float as much. What happens is the actual "wings" that the brake pads ride on get grooves worn into them over time by the metal bracket on the pads, which allows the pads to float more than they should. There is no way to truly fix this besides putting on new outer knuckles, but those spring clips help control the pad float.
  6. Do you notice more when turning? Due to the range of new parts you have done recently, you have eliminated 80% of the possibilities. Do the front brakes have the spring clips in place holding the pads properly? This can cause a light scraping and clunking or clicking sound if they are not clipped in place properly. Sounds very much like something more serious too.
  7. Yes, mine too, and this is the second MJ I have done it to. Ok good I am glad I am not the only one. This can be a "touchy" subject because it is only there to help emissions, but it sure does simplify the vacuum lines, and has no effect on performance.
  8. I want to piggyback on this thread slightly and say that I re-did my vacuum lines on my 89 4.0L 5spd (when I built my own cold air kit) and did not run any lines to the EGR solenoid. Everything is blocked off and all other critical components have vacuum. Seems to have absolutely NO adverse affects on how it runs. Has anyone ever seen otherwise? The biggest problem that I have seen is the vacuum lines get compromised, and it starts running poorly. I eliminated that whole vacuum block at the front of the motor too. It really simplified and cleaned up things nicely too. Don't have pics, but will get some... A.
  9. I want to extend on what DirtyComanche said about looseness being other things... See your death wobble post where castor was mentioned. This could make the steering feel loose and sloppy as well.
  10. Thats interesting, according to that list ALL 89-later 4.0L 2wd MJ's had an AX-15. A.
  11. Interesting, thanks Eagle. I know I remembered seeing it before on earlier XJ's, just couldn't remember year range. Pretty sure I drove that red XJ at least once too. Rgds, Andy
  12. Very cool, thanks so much. I will hit you up with a PM to see about payment. Rgds, Andy
  13. Awesome, thanks gents!!. Just making sure there isn't something to add to my repair list. Best Regards, Andy
  14. Those of you who have 5spds, do you need to step on the clutch to start your truck? I don't with my truck, just wondering if that is normal.
  15. No worries, I get it. I have had some sketchy rides home as well. Have made "track bars" from crossing ratchet straps under the front end just to get some XJ's /MJ's out of the woods and on the trailer. Trail repairs bring out all kinds of ingenuity sometimes.
  16. Wow, I couldn't even back mine out of the garage with a 3" lift and no track bar. I would have drilled and mounted up a damn broom handle before trying to drive with no track bar. ANYTHING is better than nothing in that case.
  17. Great, thanks...
  18. Thanks for the offer, If you could add these to your list and grab a set, that would be great!! Thanks for the heads up. I will check in with him as well.
  19. Yep, I broke a washer nozzle last night... Grrr... Anyone out there have a few of these laying around your willing to part with? Apparently they are the same from 80's to 96 or so from what I have read. Thanks, Andy
  20. Did you bypass the wire too? If not, it makes me think that maybe its this wire (coming form the NC contact) that may be compromised somehow.
  21. I don't know if XJ's have this ability,, but I had to replace the brake light switch on my wifes Yukon. The NC set of contacts were used for the cruise control, and they had a tarnish on them. Cleaned them up (took the cover off the switch carefully) and it worked, but I replaced it anyway.. It wouldn't even allow the cruise to be turned on prior to cleaning the contacts. Is there 3 wires or 2 going to the switch on the XJ?
  22. x2 for sure... Its usually slight looseness in a few different components, and can be combined with alignment problems, and even tire pressure too.
  23. Did you get it aligned after changing all those front end components? If not, that is a contributing factor. Castor angle has been mentioned, and is likely why you got DW. If you look at the inner C's on your front axle, they should be tilted back around 8-12 degrees, like this "/" if looking from the tire side. IS the steering really light, almost wandering a bit? If so, the inner C is too close to this "I". Since you have adjustable UCA's, you should be able to adjust more castor into the front end. Changing the lift in the back can actually cause this too, because it rotates the axle counter=clockwise just a tiny bit, which decreases castor. Also keep in mind that now that you have gotten DW, it may have loosened other components in the front end too. Track bars are particularly susceptible to this. Take a really goo look at your track bar bushings. I have had brand new HD track bars with a poly mount at the axle end (installed for only a few months) fail after a bad case of DW.
  24. I would take the knuckles off the 1993 XJ. One less part for rust to slowly wear down and loosen up on the front end.
  25. You are correct, my XJ is a two door, and they mount in the identical places. Good call on that one.
