Black89Comanche - Dad's First Comanche
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I drove home from Auburn, AL with Dad's "new" Comanche on 9/11/11 and I let him drive it off the trailer. It took him 22 years but he finally got the Comanche he wanted! this weekend we are going to fix the steering and change the spark plug wires.. This Jeep is still running R12 so it looks like we will be looking for some where to top it off while we get ready to convert it to R134a.- 41 replies

one of the only things i need to get my jeep going is the transfer case and the tranny mount my questions are: has any one put a 242 transfer case on an ax15 transmission? and how did you run the linkage? did you need to change the drive shaft length? and could i change the input gear in a 1988 231tc from a 21 spline to a 23 spline that will work with my ax15 thanks

steering help please
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The linkage under the MJ is tight to it's somewhere else -
what would be the cause of about 30 degrees of play in the steering wheel? would it be the power steering gear box? or some other linkage, and what would need to be done to fix it? thanks

Last week i was on craigslist and i found a swb MJ for sale. so i show it to dad and he decided that I should go look at it for him, 600 mile round trip later i report back to him to tell him what i thought.. "nice jeep few major dents, has an engine this time, auto tranny, 2wd, 10 spoke rims, and dana 44 rear. the rear bumper was messed up pretty good, and the steering need to be worked on" so he said after we get it home he would trade me the 10 spoke rims for the bumper off of my red MJ, and that he wants me do go get it and bring it home.. as well as do the repairs.. sell i can't talk him into letting me have the dana 44 as payment for getting it and doing the repairs.. i told him that i would give him my dana 35 from my red jeep... he is convinced that of i where to swap the axle that the jeep would crap out on him..

I found this Comanche on craigslist and showed it to my Dad. Well I am in Auburn waiting out TS Lee after test driving the comanche and attending Auburn's Football game (witch was a little too close for comfort to start out a season).. Next week I will be back to pay for it and bring it home, I would have done it this trip if the F-250 wasen't in the shop. here are some pics! Its a Black 1989 MJ Pioneer 2wd auto, short bed, WITH A DANA 44!!! And as a side note Auburn WON!! War Eagle!!!

Ya, I should be fine... I found another Comanche that dad and I might go buy... So I have so I have something to keep me busy on my new 2 days a week schedule. I think I needed some time off any way.. About a year and a half of work without a vacation. I was starting to get burned out..

on the plus side you did not kill a $5,000 contract because you did not check your email while getting a tranny for your MJ 300 miles away and end up loosing $900 per month as penalty... al least i found a better paying job that i was going to take anyway.. my MJ is still under funded.. and not running..

I am in the process of swapping from my ba10 to an ax15 and i am told that the ax15 sits 1 inch lower than the ba10.. i can't seem to find the cross member i need for my MJ but i found a 1 inch crossmember drop an rustys offroad website. my question is if i use the 1 inch drop will that mess up my drive angles for the front wheels? my jeep is at around 1 to 3 inch above stock thanks

let me know if you want a shifter from a ba10-5 mine finally bit the dust and the shifter is just siting in the mj right now..
